Always appreciate the insights and examples. I’ve learned about grading my own coins from you Ben. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos. 👍👊🙏
I consider it a success Ben!
$250 win on that proof Indian, learning a lot about pcgs’s conservation, and content for a sweet crackout video :)
I find your devotion to the grading/cross-over/crack-out GAME most interesting. The stress & torment you inflict on yourself in the name of the coin hobby/business. Gotta respect your passion for said 'game.' In the case of the 1829 half... If you were to dig a hole and bury the raw coin. Come back in 2yrs when it has some dirt/character on it. Send it to PCGS/NGC for conservation. They'd probably take on the attitude that they found "buried treasure" and give it a high grade for "rescuing" & "saving" it from obscurity.
Lol what?
🦉Now that was a great 🎓lesson for those of us wondering about the conservation submissions. 👍 Much easier as a viewer getting instant results on RUclips vs. the 3 months you had to wait. ⏳⏳ Never the less .. very helpful video.
Always watching the video.💝💜
Have a day of good luck and happiness..^^~💝💜💝💜
Had a 1796 1/2 dime ICG slab 62.
I Cracked it out and sent it to PCGS. Came back 'not gradeable altered surface 94, which is described on the web site as something applied to the surface to fill tiny surface blemishes .
I cracked it out and sent it to NGC for conservation to remove what ever PCGS saw on the surface, possibly plastic residue, and then to grade and holder the coin. This 1/2 dime was heavily toned, so i also requested they lighten the toning if possible. It came back a 58. and i was pleased, the coin lighten up perhaps 20% and hard to find a mark with 10X glass. the conservation was completed in less then 2 weeks, not sure what NCG did, probably dipped it in paint thinner or lacquer thinner. for $400.
I appreciate you doing these. 👍 I know these videos can be costly!
I feel bad for that 1829. It’s almost like conservation is what made it cleaned lol
Great video. Great topic, and four perfect scenarios and specimens to really show the process. Thanks!
We love old coins with tone and colour in the UK lol wouldnt dream of removing it
My result is if you use their conservation they give the coins an 'altered' or 'cleaned' result. Glad to see at least 1 went to grade, and not bad with the PR65RB.
Very cool. I just sent some of my coins in for restoration as well for the first time, so I'm really excited about the results
I have been finding some beautiful undergraded coins in old anacs soapbox holders. Definitely crossing over.
Always love your "crack-outs," of any nature!
i really would like to know, as you seem to have been in the cracking out game for sometime...
has cracking out coins overall been worth it ? i know you have some wins, some losses but overall, what would you say? you should make a video about that...cheers Ben!
Very Nice!! Thanks for sharing !
yes its always nice to learn new things. I don't know about you but the wait in between submissions is the worst. I cant believe they still, "still" won't go with a grade on that half dollar. That's where the hobby can get expensive, and i don't see how it's financially possible to do submissions over and over and make money. When i get them back it fells like good god the value just increased by whatever the cost was for grading even though that's not the way it goes. Although if someone wants something bad enough they will jump. I guess as a collector it makes it hard to part with and even more so after the grading process. Liked your video the other day with the big 3500 Morgan purchase. And i had no idea what the micro O was all about so it was really nice to hear what it was about. keep it up, videos are very informative and entertaining.
Hi Ben, pleased to meet you. interesting video I think the 1829 half dollar is beautiful a coin I would love to own then difficult to choose between the indian head and flying eagle both were stunning and I just love Morgans period.
Thanks for the video I did enjoy what you showed.
Huh that Bust Half is interesting to me. Not seeing the cleaning. No break in luster, no hairlines, great looking coin. Educate me on what they saw aside that fact they new it was conserved? Score on the PR IHC. Well deserved. I didn't think the Morgan would grade higher than a 64. I feel that's fair grade for that. Thanks for sharing
Yikes! that half dollar had so much potential but it has turned into a very costly project... I liked it WAY better the first video you made about it with the strong (natural) purple hue.
I am surprised they didn't contact you on the morgan -- NGC would have. They did a good job on the coppers.
I wonder what would have happened if you had simply cracked them, dipped them in EZ-EST for 30 seconds, rinsed them, then sent them off to be graded again?
Great investment. Like for the video.
Always wondered about their restoration? Thanks, sorry bout your fav!
I sent my 1921 peace dollar ms65+ in for conservation and it came back minus the duck egg spotting which I wanted rid of but stayed the same grade, it did cost me $2150 and then another $150 for conservation and regrade but the prices gave skyrocketed and so now it's a $5000-$6000 coin...id say the coin has to justify it and can result in fine scratches in harder to clean areas which feels almost like they'd used an eraser over a solution to get or reduce spotting and I feel like it can jump out as 'adjusted' surface as opposed to cleaned.
Wow what an interesting video, thanks for this!
Now its time to crack them out and send them to NGC for grading😂
Hi bud great video nice old coins, womble stacker uk
Subbed
Good luck with your channel
Very informative video. And for that, you get yourself. Subscriber
Interesting results Sir thank you for showing
Ben, what is your sense of the chemical process that NGC / PCGS uses for 'minor' conservation? Is it the same solutions that are readily available to consumers? I'm just wondering if for the cost of the conservation you get a quick dip of your coin, which is then examined & encapsulated. Obviously (hopefully) they know what they're doing, so you're paying for a professional conservation. Curious on how often it's worth it.
Maybe you can make a video about your technique and a demonstration of how,you conserve your coins. I believe it would be a good educational and interesting video. Just a little suggestion. I'm interested in the proper way to conserve coins without being cleaned. 👍😀 👌
Great video Ben! I really enjoy these kind of videos. I'm struggling with who to go with for getting a membership for grading. I'm really leaning towards NGC but I just don't know. I know PCGS slabed coins sell higher than NGC slabs. But the price for membership with NGC is cheaper. Please give me your thoughts on who you truly prefer and who's all around better to go with. Thanks.
I am in the same boat on weather to use pcgs or ngc
Be curious to hear your opinions between PCGS and ngc's conservation services
Thank you for doing this video....both before and after. So what do you think of the conservation service? Was it worth it or when would you recommend it? If possible can you talk about the cost of the service? Did you get the hokders with new microchip? Appreciate an response
Great video and educational. You did well!
I love that 1829 half. Been following it’s journey. Dan I went to your web site. The first photo really shows some significant lines in front of the face that do look like cleaning lines. Do you disagree with PCGS’s assessment of that? The in slab photo and your video did not show such apparent marks?
Interesting video
Something new I learned today ..
I just sent some 1931-S Seated Morgan’s to NGC using their Secure Plus Gold Shield service w/ True View imaging.... Hopefully they all come back in PR67DCAM holders. 🤣😂
I have a collection of Morgan dollars that includes an 1893. Would you have them restored by PCGS? And would it affect the value ?
How much do they charge for "conservation"? I have a Morgan with what I think is PVC. I'd rather have a professional dip it.
pretty interesting results Ben
Ben is it possible to send in a coin that has being lightly cleaned for conservation and then afterwards not get a details result?
Not bad I love that Indian head
Doesn’t the cleaned designation usually mean that you’ll get less money for it?
Yes that is correct
Did they say why they wouldn't conserve the Morgan?
Very nice indian head cent
I have to commend you for not making the video a two Part or Before and After. I have never seen it done before. Most people would have had less restraint and uploaded immediately. Thanks for the information.
I wish you would have said how much the restoration cost
Ben the coin Greek your the man in knowing your coins thanks for the info. Went on your web site to look at some coins you have in my opinion your a lot higher on the Morgan's I know you have to turn and burn and make a profit but do you have to make it on one person. Thanks for your hard work.
0:43 How do they prove the color was altered?
What’s the conservation cost?
Nice
Just seems a conflict when the coin company that grade also try to conserve the same coins.
If they chose not to conserve the 1891S Morgan, did they still charge you for the extra con$ervation $ervice$ ? I'm probably the outlier here, but to me they dulled the obverse surface appearance on the Flying Eagle Cent. I'm with you on the 1829 Half: a sad 😥 tale, indeed!
Ben, what coins do you collect...and keep...why wouldn't you keep that 1829 Capped Bust if you love it so much...just curious...I find it almost impossible to part ways with things I really like! Also F the masks!!!
Cheers.
Did you ever come across a Scarface Morgan?
There’s affordable ones that you can kinda see and then theres the expensive ones were you can really see the mark real good without a loupe
If you like it, who cares what "they" say about it?
That’s interesting.... 🤔..... I was totally unaware that PCGS had a “Conservation” service. Now I’ve used their Restoration service many times, but never their “Conservation” service! Must be new.....? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I can’t help myself.... 😂🤣
The PCGG conservation service is a clear conflict of interest. They clean a coin, which is what dipping is, and then slab it s not cleaned, but if you do the same thing, you'll get slapped with a "cleaned" or " artificial color" designation. This tells me to only trust certified coins from NGC or ANACS.
If I was you ben i would dip that morgan and resubmit it it looks like a 66 to me
I'll bet you wouldn't dip any of your Crowns
The Morgan had a fairly good strike, and not very many bag marks. It just looks dull and doesn't have flashy eye appeal. So yes, maybe dipping it makes sense.
@@667hodge I already have lol
Huge price jumps for things people can't even generally tell the difference are so dumb imo. It's so random and subjective.
Hi Ben. OUCH! PCGS hates you! *>>-->* 🦉
Cents man, Cents...
🥰👍❤🇺🇲🗽🦅
