Great work guys, I think the S62 should be fine. 😉 I had bits of belt shredded and found inside my N54 when the Valve Cover Gasket was done, thought that was it, engine must be a goner 😣 But it survived and managed to pull out bits and flush the oil through 😣
Cool video do you have the torque specifications / procedure for the ARP bolts and ARP part number and plastigage readings you got, I'll be changing my rod bearings on my x5m e70 soon location Gold Coast. I believe the standard bmw torque settings are on and off a bit. Thanks in advance 🙂👍
So, waste of money then :D TBH I've had multiple BMW's and M's, never changed the rod bearings and never had any problems (fingers crossed) If you give these engine a lot of love, they give you a lot of love back. :D
Definately not a waste of money man. S54s, s65s, s85s, even n54s and n55s need bearings replaced before they spin. On the S engines of that era they should be considered a service item lol. On s62s not so much as it doesn't spin that high, but you never know. Especially when u see glitter in ur oil
@@HassanEido1 If you buy it 5th hand and the previous owner revved cold to 8k rpm then yeah you're fcked... :D But a lot of times when people change the rod bearings and have the car for long time, they're not in really bad shape. Also a mate of mine changed them and after that his engine blew bc install was not correct... To each his own I guess, if it ain't broken don't fix it. If you have big chunks of copper in your oil then ok, but like these guys you have to be sure it's not chunks from the previous guy that did and oil change with the same oil pan. :D
@@JerainJezza it's not really the attitude you need to have. Do oil analysis, do it when it needs to be done. I've had my m3 since new. Have had my rod bearings done twice so far. If you know ur s engines, (or any high revving engine) you know rod bearings are a service item. You can do you of course, your car your money.
What a prick of a job haha. I was going to ask if it was just metal shavings from around the shop that ended up in the oil drainage pan or from the N54 but you found fragments in your filter too so who knows lol.
Thanks for the videos guys following all of these with great interest as i've also got an ESS 560 - E39 M5, any more thoughts on if you are going to add an intercooler to this?
Absolutely will be adding a cooler. We need to work out some pipe routing and also what size pipe is going to work best, smaller will be easier to fit but may restrict flow. Larger will be harder to fit, but less of a restriction, but then may also result in lower boost numbers.
Zero To 60 Yeah that’s a difficult compromise, at least you can maybe take a look at the Evolve kit and judge from that what sort of pipe work etc you need. I’ve just bought a second engine for mine hoping to do a built engine with it. Along with more power further down the line.
See, told ya she sounded fine, haha. That's a big relief, I bet? Seemed like way more metal in the pan, is it one of those things that looks worse than it is or do you think something else could be wearing? I've got this thought rattling round in my neanderthal brain saying, 'it's not from the blower is it?' But then I know very, very little about superchargers.
That solenoidy thing looks like the double barrel version of the guts of a VANOS unit. Change the rings now (if not to late). Use VITON material rings, and not the factory Buna rubber. The Buna is shit. Hence why all VANOS goes bad after 100K
The uppers don’t wear from the compression stroke. They wear from the power stroke. An order of magnitude more compressive force. Still a terrible BMW design. Rod bearings should last forever.
Not enough it would seem cos we’re always a bit short when it comes to paying for car parts....... on a serious note we’ve had a few business over the years. All in the automotive industry. Currently as of 2020 we are the Australian distributors for a high end brand of off road racing tyre for motorbikes. Oh and we have a members section on RUclips 😜.
It's really bugging me about that one odd tyre😂
Its bugging everyone. That wheel is taking its sweet time at the wheel repair shop. Never tell a shop theres not rush...... haha
Glad to see the S62 again and also great to see Woody helping out 👍🏻 great content guys
I'm loving this S62 series of videos. Keep em comin!
Thanks! Will do!

Feels better now that I know the bearings are good!
But what about the metal parts in the oil filter?
Great stuff guys! Glad it doesn't look as bad as you feared!

Using ARP's stretch gauge when installing their bolts is a much more accurate method than relying on the accuracy of a torque wrench!
Good video, love the collaboration.
Keep up the good work
Appreciate it!
Congrats! Glad it worked out 💪
Love the video, at first i thought i was watching "Demo ranch" with there intro music.
Those "solenoids" help you pump oil during cornering so there is no oil starvation.
Going to be replacing the chains and guides? Just as important I think... Got mine all done at the same time
Apparently the chains have already been done so I just wanted to get the bearings done asap
Loving Woody's presence
It was a good laugh having him there. Not to mention comforting when Shane has to rush home to one of his girlfriends.
oh skrit! lets get down to business!

Something else must be producing those particles in the filter.
Great stuff.

Dave handled that sump wayy better than he handled that pizza he dropped on me in Sydney when we were on the modball 😂😂😂
damn bro, I had forgotten about that and just relived it lol 😣
how do the bearings youve installed compare in terms of longevity compared to the oem bmws or other options?
They are supposed to outlast the OEM bearings by a long way, so hopefully it will be good for a while now
How many k's?

What headers are these ? Doesn’t look like ss or evolve but cant tell for sure 👍
They are supersprint. Look fairly well made, however they do hang low.
Gotcha, were you able to feel the gains with these and did you have to drop the subframe to install ? Thanks
funny to watch this done both here and on Vehicular DIY within a couple days of each other, plastigage and all
Yeah, i haven't seen his vid yet. At least he knows what he's doing hahaha
The Glitter could have been from some strippers that you had in the car?
Wow, how did we forget about that.... you might be on to something here.
knowing the quality of strippers near them, that's a bigger insult than most people would realize.
👍👍👍
What mileage did those bearings do ?
A lot, 307K km
@@ZeroTo60Tube don't suffer with Rod bearings like E60 m5 or maybe be done before? But engine really clean inside!!! Favourite m5 e39

They are the scavange oil pumps. Not vanos related. I agree on the rings tho.

9-5 that’s only part time, you’re basically semi retired... hehe
