To the person who said “what is the point if a printer can do it” you must be the kind of person who just enjoys bringing others down who have talent and passion. When you pour your time into a piece of art that you are proud of and inspires others you will realise that you have done something much more than a printer ever could do.
Jealousy is always my last choice when I try to understand why somebody says something insulting, but this time I can't find a better explanation than jealousy. That person is void of artistic soul.
People might not see it as a hand made piece of art, and that's why their first intention is that it was simply printed out. But really, in my opinion, you should make art that you personally enjoy. If you're making artwork just to show off, you will encounter people who dislike it and so you'll personally be depressed by that. You can't expect everyone in the world to like your art, (as everyone has different tastes) so don't get that idea and end up getting angry about it. Ignore those that dislike your art, be happy that there are instead those that enjoy it.

I love realistic to hyperrealistic drawings. They take time, effort, dedication, skills, knowledge, technique , talent, determination and perseverance . I admire it and no it's not everyone's capabilities but anyone who would judge it negatively is an idiot and likely has about as much talent as a nail. Saying that. People don't always know how much effort has been put into an artwork. They instead look at the final piece, as that's literally the finished product. It's up to people's tastes to decide whether they enjoy the final result or not. There's no need to waste your mental health and time getting upset about someone's opinions.
I have a few hyper-realistic drawings that take me up to 40-100 hours so i get the struggle, honestly just work on art that makes you feel accomplished! keep up the great work!

I use FC polys on my scripture writing on regular lined notebook paper and I do not care what others think of my drawings, as long as they reached the right ones, that were meant to appreciate it. Moving out from your comfort zone is a good thing, trying out new material is fun and challenging I even dare you to try other mediums. I love drawing, painting and I have different mediums and is always fun to sit down and try out something that at the end will be a beautiful work of art. I'm pretty sure you will be ok, be patience and enjoy the process while you are at it cause you are an amazing artist!

you inspired me t draw with coloured pencils though i like graphite but after watching you i decided to give it a try and spend more time using ur techniques with my 3$ garbage copy of Faber Castell coloured pencils and it actually worked and i was very happy regardless of the amount of time i spent cuz after alot of time using them i couldn't get any good result the point is you are doing that cuz no one else can.. your good at it.. you inspire people to learn don't pay attention to negative opinions 🤍
I do realism art too, and I've had people question the same thing, what's the point of doing a drawing so realistic when u can just print it. Initially I didn't have an answer for that and was stumped. I even felt somewhat offended. It's true there's hardly any creativity involved. And when you think of making art, it's often synonymous with creativity. Then I realised, sure a printer can do it, but a human being able to do it manually takes incredible amount of patience, skill, technique and even talent I would say, to recreate an image to trick The Eye into thinking it's real. That's why after all these years, I'm still into realism
I have only recently started drawing again after about a 40 year gap! I have tried Polychromos but I can’t “get” the blending at all so I’ve switched to pastel pencils for now. Your work is truly inspiring so here’s hoping you have some luck with the Luminance. I have just bought half a dozen Luminance to try out but, as you say, they are very expensive!

excited to see what you do with your new papers and pencils! You’re right, I notice the polychromos pencils take FOREVER to do anything with. They’re beautiful pencils and you can get realistic works with them but they take a long time. They’re also much better for details than luminance, so I recommend using them together - luminance for the blending and for very fine details the polychromos. I like blending with luminance much more because it is easier and the pencils are creamier. I plan on making some separate tutorials on my channels because I realized how my colored pencil methods change depending on what brand I’m using 🤦🏻♀️
It's funny how we all approach things. I have started using Castell colour pencil and trying out your Morgan tutorial, because i rush at my work and you've helped me slow down and apply and I'm impressed with this process. I so agree that they are difficult to blend. Good luck.

I know this came out a while ago and I’m not an amazing artist by any means, but being able to draw at your level isn’t about just being able to do what a printer can do. Being able to draw the believable enables you to make the unbelievable believable. Your art is beautiful and has so much potential for you to tell the world what you want to hear. You’ve inspired me and countless others to try art again, and I don’t think any printer could do that.
Suggestion, you are better than anyone that I have seen on the net and as far as Hyper Realism goes even better than Heather Rooney (In my humble opinion) "Big Compliment" ! Since you have this procedure down so well, what about mixing something out of your Imagination into the drawing? Something you can't produce by pushing the print button (really narrow minded statement). You are really helping a lot of people, please keep the (Detailed step by step) videos coming.
Not gonna lie, this video made me feel a bit sad, and I will explain why. First off, if I may, I think you haven't researched enough when taking this drastic decision, when it comes to drawing in coloured pencils. Now, I have been using this medium for 3 years and I have also started with Polychromos. I saw the way you create skin, and as much as I salute you for your patience (because I do the same at times, when I feel like I'm into doing very detailed work), it's not an efficient way to create a portrait. I can understand why Luminance seems like a better option, but the truth is, there is no "better option". Coloured pencils work best together, oil based with wax based. If you decide to use smoother pencils like luminance, you'll find it frustrating to create finer detailes, for example, that you can only achieve with a pencil like Polychromos, that has a firmer lead. My advice is, try to add a couple of layers of Polychromos at first, and use a solvent afterwards. But a very, very small amount of it, so that the tooth of the paper is well covered (but not entirely). And then you can go in with the Luminance, to get a more burnished effect. I know you said that the burnish effect doesn't look good for the skin because it makes it unrealistic, but you can still add further details with a darker pencil, afterwards, using the glazing method (pores, fine lines, freckles, moles etc). Or, you don't need to burnish all the way, just add enough layers until your skin looks smooth enough. This way, using both your sets of coloured pencils, you will find that you will save time and money, as the solvent helps alot. I used to avoid it as well, but realized that it's essential in order to create realism without layering forever. You still have to layer alot, but not as much, and it saves time and money. Most artists love to combine these exact sets of pencils (myself included) and I get the best results in this way. I also love the derwent lightfast pencils, expensive but very good, similar to the Luminance ones. You can also combine all of these with the Prismas, of course. So don't limit yourself to one type and brand of pencils, because you will miss out on some interesting combos and results (plus colour tones you may not find in the same set). All that being said, I can't wait to see what you create next! :)
I gotta say, man. Sometimes we have to change the vantage point from where we take our view of art. The skill you developed is nothing short of astounding. It's an incredible display of patience, endurance, talent and carefully honed study. But man, I can only imagine the type of OCD and anxiety that style must trigger in you. You would still do killer stuff with a looser, more painterly style. Such as the charcoal drawings by Sargent, but in colored pencil instead. That's what I'm striving for myself. You would still make beautiful, expressive and impressive work. But it would only take you 10 to 15 hours to finish a colored portrait piece. Give yourself your sanity back. Still, whatever you do, I'll watch and support. We all need to stick together in this. Much love and blessings to you.

I might be biased and, of course, I'm miles away from your skills, but I have the Polychromos and the Caran D'Ache Luminance (a small set, to test them). I think the Caran D'Ache have a pastel pencil kind of touch that turns me down. I wanted so bad to like them, I was wishing to buy the 76 colors set, but the pastel touch kinda bothers me, don't know. Among the sets I own they are the least used. Looking forward to see what they can do in your hands!
I've bought polychromos after reading everywhere that they're the best high quality pencils for the price and this is not the First time i hear they are difficult to work with after the purcase.. oh my, what have i done 😂 now i'm scared to use them
They're good pencils but they're oil-based so they're harder and take more time to build up and blend. When I first got some, I tried to blend them like I do with Prismacolor, but nope. Gotta go little by little, back and forth.
Try Clarefontaine pastlemat. It's a a grittier paper designed for pastels but great for pencil work too. You need to use a very, very light hand and lots of layers.
Per my last post... I'm now kinda curious why you don't use OMS. Stonehenge is very good paper but, you can use any good 90 lb weight paper w/ a tooth (aka cold press) & get same results. Regardless, you are correct... Polychromos requires more layers even with a cold press surface; hence the OMS. Saves the tooth of paper, gives you a lot of control and doesn't require 500 layers. Have you tried OMS?
problems of an perfectionist - I feel you ;-) BUT...its not about "challenges" - its ok to get better and master an art-style or any hobby...but at the end you should just do it for the "JOY" - and for the freedom in your head while doing it ❤
Alonya Nickelsen has a powder blending system and you pair it with sanded paper, pastelmat, or anything with a tooth. I have Polychromos and Luminance colored pencils and the results will shave off a considerable amount of time on your portraits. You’ll get as many layers as you want and I’m actually enjoying drawing with this system. They’re both very different pencils but I have been working on my own experiment with it and while it takes some getting used to it’s worth it in my opinion. I hope it helps you out because I would have used odorless mineral spirits instead of dry blending like that. I am nowhere near as patient as you are.
I kind of prefer very real art vs hyper real. Being able to see flaws and being able to tell the medium keeps it organic. Having said that I do appreciate your past work (why I subbed) and look forward to your new direction
I bought the Farber Castell first too. I couldn't get the hang of them and stopped drawing really. I should've bought prisma colours or caran d'ache. I now quit drawing because I lost all interest in it and picked up sculpting which I much more enjoy. Cheers man

People rave about Polychromos and they're not wrong. They're nice pencils, but oil-based pencils can be such a chore. They're so hard and take forever to blend. Whereas wax-based pencils are so soft and easy to blend and smooth. If I could afford a full set of Caran d'Ache, I'd use them all the time. I mainly use Prismas and a some Poly's here and there. And Bristol paper is really good. I went back and forth between smooth and vellum, but vellum is probably the best since it's got more tooth for blending.

Please try a new art medium apart from pencils. I have the same problem so I decided to do some watercolors. Or you could even try watercolor pencils or soft pastels. They are fun to work with.

I had the exact same issue as you but I was not to your standard of drawing. I also did that drawing of Morgan Freeman (it's on my channel) I felt like drawing was a bit of a chore and I lost all the spark that it initially gave me over the years. I did get into watercolors which was a lot more fun as you not have to worry about being so perfect. Also love doing abstract paintings as well - when I get the chance. I love your art! From my experience, I would recommend trying Prismacolor pencils with strathmore mixed media paper or canson illustration board. I’ve tried Fabre Castell and caran d'ache luminance colored pencils but personally I like Prismacolor the most. This is based on its performance and cost, they average about $2 each at my art stores and the other brands are $3-$6 each. I like the way they blend and their waxy texture, and they rarely break for me since I use an electric sharpener. They also seem to not take as long to make a complete drawing. I average 10-30 hours per drawing. I noticed you have strathmore colored pencil paper and I think it works pretty well, I’d be interested in hearing what you think about it🖤

Great idea and good luck to you! I have FCP pencils too and I keep looking at the luminance but the price point puts me off. I also think it's great you are challenging yourself at the start of spring, a spring clean of your art, if you like :-) I shall watch with interest.
Do you consider trying a completely different medium? Like paint or graphite or whatever? I feel like even though every colored pencil has its own advantages and disadvantages, at the end of the day they are all the same: colored pencils. I mean i understand that it's a big change for you but you are very experienced with colored pencils and it doesn't really matter which colored pencil you use exactly because all of the blending techniques require similar abilities
@@Neeyellowart Have you thought about pan pastels? When I see people use them, it's amazing how easy it looks. Then they go back in with colored pencil on top for all the details. Seems like a huge time-saver.
To answer the 'what's the point if you can just print' question, is because its not always about the subject. To draw photo realistic its about the being able to apply a high level of skill, detail, observation, time and of corse enjoyment into a drawing and looking back and being proud of an impressive achievement. Not everything you draw has to display creativity and meaning, if you like doing it and are proud of the result then you've found the "point"
I say you should draw landscapes and start painting if you haven’t tried it yet! It maybe more time consuming with landscapes but it can be fun trying new things.
I would like to have you're advice. I've been using graphite pencils for almost ten years and have been able to achieve pretty decent photo realistic drawings. I want to venture into colour pencils as they seem so fun and rewarding. Would you recommend the Prismacolor Premiere or the Faber Castell Polychromos? They are both around the same price on Amazon for AU$128/$130 . I plan to draw nature, animals and portraits. Thank you in advance.

caran d'ache are a million times better they blend so well! totally differnet also try different papers, using different bases like markers or pan pastels to speed up the process
I never really used an artest level colored pencils before and because of that when I bought the polychromos they were like heaven to me 😂 Although, I bought prisma colores but, I didn't like them they are way to soft and breaks easly . Did you ever draw anything with the luminance? I recently got these pencils as well and I’m using solvents for the first time ever with them. it actually preserves the pencils a lot and so considering how expensive they are it’s really worth it
You know I tried using colour pencils before and I regretted every moment of it, what I can do with a paint brush takes so little effort compared to pencil drawings, obviously the brush size is bigger than a pencil tip but that alone helps a lot
Hearing someone as good as you talk about how difficult polychromos are to use is not a good sign of how my progress is gonna go lol good luck with the luminance though.
A printer doesn’t get you millions of views! People can tell the difference. I’ve had this problem. Just need to keep exploring if it’s something you enjoy. No one spends that much time on something if they didn’t enjoy or love it. Don’t be discouraged. There’s not many people these days who spend anytime on anything. Everyone just wants a quick fix and quick fame. As you grow more you’ll care less what others say and keep going on your own journey. All the best! You’ve put in a lot of time and effort and you deserve the best.
....the reason for realism drawings are because it fulfills the artist and the appreciative art lovers among them! But if you as an artist are tired of a particular medium that once fill you with joy, try another medium. That’s what I do. I had to leave stippling alone for a while... now I’m trying others out. I use caran d'ach luminence too and I'm very curious how you are going to use the new pencils. Strathmore Bristil 300 serie paper is very good with those pencils.
When you print off pictures as a reference photo, are they printed in HD. I’m nowhere near as good as you but I think my reference pictures are too blurry to get the details that I want. Do you have a special printer or is it just an ordinary printer that also prints out low detailed photos

I love drawing, painting and I have different mediums and is always fun to sit down and try out something that at the end will be a beautiful work of art. I'm pretty sure you will be ok, be patience and enjoy the process while you are at it cause you are an amazing artist!

you inspired me t draw with coloured pencils though i like graphite but after watching you i decided to give it a try and spend more time using ur techniques with my 3$ garbage copy of Faber Castell coloured pencils and it actually worked and i was very happy regardless of the amount of time i spent cuz after alot of time using them i couldn't get any good result

I do realism art too, and I've had people question the same thing, what's the point of doing a drawing so realistic when u can just print it. Initially I didn't have an answer for that and was stumped. I even felt somewhat offended. It's true there's hardly any creativity involved. And when you think of making art, it's often synonymous with creativity. Then I realised, sure a printer can do it, but a human being able to do it manually takes incredible amount of patience, skill, technique and even talent I would say, to recreate an image to trick The Eye into thinking it's real. That's why after all these years, I'm still into realism
I have only recently started drawing again after about a 40 year gap! I have tried Polychromos but I can’t “get” the blending at all so I’ve switched to pastel pencils for now. Your work is truly inspiring so here’s hoping you have some luck with the Luminance. I have just bought half a dozen Luminance to try out but, as you say, they are very expensive!

excited to see what you do with your new papers and pencils! You’re right, I notice the polychromos pencils take FOREVER to do anything with. They’re beautiful pencils and you can get realistic works with them but they take a long time. They’re also much better for details than luminance, so I recommend using them together - luminance for the blending and for very fine details the polychromos. I like blending with luminance much more because it is easier and the pencils are creamier. I plan on making some separate tutorials on my channels because I realized how my colored pencil methods change depending on what brand I’m using 🤦🏻♀️

It's funny how we all approach things. I have started using Castell colour pencil and trying out your Morgan tutorial, because i rush at my work and you've helped me slow down and apply and I'm impressed with this process. I so agree that they are difficult to blend. Good luck.

The FC Polychromes are harder and good for fur and details. The luminance are great for skin-tones. Hope you make a nice video how to make a nice skin-tone so we can all learn how to draw like you do in this terrible corona time in our houses.

I know this came out a while ago and I’m not an amazing artist by any means, but being able to draw at your level isn’t about just being able to do what a printer can do. Being able to draw the believable enables you to make the unbelievable believable. Your art is beautiful and has so much potential for you to tell the world what you want to hear.
You’ve inspired me and countless others to try art again, and I don’t think any printer could do that.
Suggestion, you are better than anyone that I have seen on the net and as far as Hyper Realism goes even better than Heather Rooney (In my humble opinion) "Big Compliment" ! Since you have this procedure down so well, what about mixing something out of your Imagination into the drawing? Something you can't produce by pushing the print button (really narrow minded statement). You are really helping a lot of people, please keep the (Detailed step by step) videos coming.

Not gonna lie, this video made me feel a bit sad, and I will explain why. First off, if I may, I think you haven't researched enough when taking this drastic decision, when it comes to drawing in coloured pencils. Now, I have been using this medium for 3 years and I have also started with Polychromos. I saw the way you create skin, and as much as I salute you for your patience (because I do the same at times, when I feel like I'm into doing very detailed work), it's not an efficient way to create a portrait. I can understand why Luminance seems like a better option, but the truth is, there is no "better option". Coloured pencils work best together, oil based with wax based. If you decide to use smoother pencils like luminance, you'll find it frustrating to create finer detailes, for example, that you can only achieve with a pencil like Polychromos, that has a firmer lead. My advice is, try to add a couple of layers of Polychromos at first, and use a solvent afterwards. But a very, very small amount of it, so that the tooth of the paper is well covered (but not entirely). And then you can go in with the Luminance, to get a more burnished effect. I know you said that the burnish effect doesn't look good for the skin because it makes it unrealistic, but you can still add further details with a darker pencil, afterwards, using the glazing method (pores, fine lines, freckles, moles etc). Or, you don't need to burnish all the way, just add enough layers until your skin looks smooth enough. This way, using both your sets of coloured pencils, you will find that you will save time and money, as the solvent helps alot. I used to avoid it as well, but realized that it's essential in order to create realism without layering forever. You still have to layer alot, but not as much, and it saves time and money. Most artists love to combine these exact sets of pencils (myself included) and I get the best results in this way. I also love the derwent lightfast pencils, expensive but very good, similar to the Luminance ones. You can also combine all of these with the Prismas, of course. So don't limit yourself to one type and brand of pencils, because you will miss out on some interesting combos and results (plus colour tones you may not find in the same set). All that being said, I can't wait to see what you create next! :)

I gotta say, man. Sometimes we have to change the vantage point from where we take our view of art. The skill you developed is nothing short of astounding. It's an incredible display of patience, endurance, talent and carefully honed study.
But man, I can only imagine the type of OCD and anxiety that style must trigger in you. You would still do killer stuff with a looser, more painterly style. Such as the charcoal drawings by Sargent, but in colored pencil instead. That's what I'm striving for myself. You would still make beautiful, expressive and impressive work. But it would only take you 10 to 15 hours to finish a colored portrait piece. Give yourself your sanity back. Still, whatever you do, I'll watch and support. We all need to stick together in this. I might be biased and, of course, I'm miles away from your skills, but I have the Polychromos and the Caran D'Ache Luminance (a small set, to test them). I think the Caran D'Ache have a pastel pencil kind of touch that turns me down. I wanted so bad to like them, I was wishing to buy the 76 colors set, but the pastel touch kinda bothers me, don't know. Among the sets I own they are the least used.

I've bought polychromos after reading everywhere that they're the best high quality pencils for the price and this is not the First time i hear they are difficult to work with after the purcase.. oh my, what have i done 😂 now i'm scared to use them

They're good pencils but they're oil-based so they're harder and take more time to build up and blend. When I first got some, I tried to blend them like I do with Prismacolor, but nope. Gotta go little by little, back and forth.
Polychromos are my very first coloured pencils and I'm so frustrated with them but I wanna work it out so bad

Try Clarefontaine pastlemat. It's a a grittier paper designed for pastels but great for pencil work too. You need to use a very, very light hand and lots of layers.
Per my last post... I'm now kinda curious why you don't use OMS. Stonehenge is very good paper but, you can use any good 90 lb weight paper w/ a tooth (aka cold press) & get same results.
Regardless, you are correct... Polychromos requires more layers even with a cold press surface; hence the OMS. Saves the tooth of paper, gives you a lot of control and doesn't require 500 layers.

problems of an perfectionist - I feel you ;-) BUT...its not about "challenges" - its ok to get better and master an art-style or any hobby...but at the end you should just do it for the "JOY" - and for the freedom in your head while doing it ❤
Alonya Nickelsen has a powder blending system and you pair it with sanded paper, pastelmat, or anything with a tooth. I have Polychromos and Luminance colored pencils and the results will shave off a considerable amount of time on your portraits. You’ll get as many layers as you want and I’m actually enjoying drawing with this system. They’re both very different pencils but I have been working on my own experiment with it and while it takes some getting used to it’s worth it in my opinion. I hope it helps you out because I would have used odorless mineral spirits instead of dry blending like that. I am nowhere near as patient as you are.

I bought the Farber Castell first too. I couldn't get the hang of them and stopped drawing really. I should've bought prisma colours or caran d'ache. I now quit drawing because I lost all interest in it and picked up sculpting which I much more enjoy. Cheers man

People rave about Polychromos and they're not wrong. They're nice pencils, but oil-based pencils can be such a chore. They're so hard and take forever to blend. Whereas wax-based pencils are so soft and easy to blend and smooth. If I could afford a full set of Caran d'Ache, I'd use them all the time. I mainly use Prismas and a some Poly's here and there. And Bristol paper is really good. I went back and forth between smooth and vellum, but vellum is probably the best since it's got more tooth for blending.

You should try to use powder blender and sanded paper. But I recommend the polychromos pencils for those things.
Ohhh and another suggestion for a tutorial is a hyperrealistic hair tutorial with colored pencils :).
Please try a new art medium apart from pencils. I have the same problem so I decided to do some watercolors. Or you could even try watercolor pencils or soft pastels. They are fun to work with.

I had the exact same issue as you but I was not to your standard of drawing. I also did that drawing of Morgan Freeman (it's on my channel)
I felt like drawing was a bit of a chore and I lost all the spark that it initially gave me over the years.
I did get into watercolors which was a lot more fun as you not have to worry about being so perfect. Also love doing abstract paintings as well - when I get the chance.

I love your art! From my experience, I would recommend trying Prismacolor pencils with strathmore mixed media paper or canson illustration board. I’ve tried Fabre Castell and caran d'ache luminance colored pencils but personally I like Prismacolor the most. This is based on its performance and cost, they average about $2 each at my art stores and the other brands are $3-$6 each. I like the way they blend and their waxy texture, and they rarely break for me since I use an electric sharpener. They also seem to not take as long to make a complete drawing. I average 10-30 hours per drawing. I noticed you have strathmore colored pencil paper and I think it works pretty well, I’d be interested in hearing what you think about it🖤

Great idea and good luck to you! I have FCP pencils too and I keep looking at the luminance but the price point puts me off. I also think it's great you are challenging yourself at the start of spring, a spring clean of your art, if you like :-) I shall watch with interest.
Do you consider trying a completely different medium? Like paint or graphite or whatever? I feel like even though every colored pencil has its own advantages and disadvantages, at the end of the day they are all the same: colored pencils. I mean i understand that it's a big change for you but you are very experienced with colored pencils and it doesn't really matter which colored pencil you use exactly because all of the blending techniques require similar abilities
@@Neeyellowart Have you thought about pan pastels? When I see people use them, it's amazing how easy it looks. Then they go back in with colored pencil on top for all the details. Seems like a huge time-saver.
To answer the 'what's the point if you can just print' question, is because its not always about the subject. To draw photo realistic its about the being able to apply a high level of skill, detail, observation, time and of corse enjoyment into a drawing and looking back and being proud of an impressive achievement. Not everything you draw has to display creativity and meaning, if you like doing it and are proud of the result then you've found the "point"
I say you should draw landscapes and start painting if you haven’t tried it yet! It maybe more time consuming with landscapes but it can be fun trying new things.

you should use solvent for blending it saves you time and you get similar results. Many color pencil artists use it and their drawings look amazing.

I would like to have you're advice. I've been using graphite pencils for almost ten years and have been able to achieve pretty decent photo realistic drawings. I want to venture into colour pencils as they seem so fun and rewarding. Would you recommend the Prismacolor Premiere or the Faber Castell Polychromos? They are both around the same price on Amazon for AU$128/$130 . I plan to draw nature, animals and portraits. Thank you in advance.

caran d'ache are a million times better they blend so well! totally differnet also try different papers, using different bases like markers or pan pastels to speed up the process
I never really used an artest level colored pencils before and because of that when I bought the polychromos they were like heaven to me 😂 Although, I bought prisma colores but, I didn't like them they are way to soft and breaks easly . I enjoyed ur videos and I was wondering in artest point of view what is the best colored pencil for an absoulte beginner will be ?

Did you ever draw anything with the luminance? I recently got these pencils as well and I’m using solvents for the first time ever with them. it actually preserves the pencils a lot and so considering how expensive they are it’s really worth it
You know I tried using colour pencils before and I regretted every moment of it, what I can do with a paint brush takes so little effort compared to pencil drawings, obviously the brush size is bigger than a pencil tip but that alone helps a lot

A printer doesn’t get you millions of views! People can tell the difference. I’ve had this problem. Just need to keep exploring if it’s something you enjoy. No one spends that much time on something if they didn’t enjoy or love it. Don’t be discouraged. There’s not many people these days who spend anytime on anything. Everyone just wants a quick fix and quick fame. As you grow more you’ll care less what others say and keep going on your own journey. All the best! You’ve put in a lot of time and effort and you deserve the best.
....the reason for realism drawings are because it fulfills the artist and the appreciative art lovers among them! But if you as an artist are tired of a particular medium that once fill you with joy, try another medium. That’s what I do. I had to leave stippling alone for a while... now I’m trying others out. Enjoy exploring
NeeYellow, I need some advice. I’m an amateur artist and I have a heavy colouring style with pencil. I burnish most of my surfaces. I just purchased a 120 Set of Faber-Castell Polychromos. Have I bought the wrong brand? Would I be better off buying the Caran D’Arche?

I use caran d'ach luminence too and I'm very curious how you are going to use the new pencils. Strathmore Bristil 300 serie paper is very good with those pencils.
When you print off pictures as a reference photo, are they printed in HD. I’m nowhere near as good as you but I think my reference pictures are too blurry to get the details that I want. Do you have a special printer or is it just an ordinary printer that also prints out low detailed photos
