  • Welcome to the transformation of our 1840 farmhouse bathroom! 🚿✨ In this video, join us on a journey as we breathe new life into this historic space, preserving its charm while incorporating modern comforts.
    🏡 About the Farmhouse:
    Our farmhouse, nestled in the Cumberland Valley of Central Pennsylvania has a rich history dating back to the 19th century. This bathroom remodel project allowed us to honor its heritage while embracing the comforts of the present. Naturally, the original farmhouse didn't have an indoor bathroom, but we tried to reflect the decor of the time.
    Don & Brenda do all of the work on this DIY project. We share our challenges and our successes.

    We've been in our 70's era house for 5 years, I am no carpenter, plumber, etc.
    My wife's cousin started a bathroom remodel with a tub like yours, except it was avocado green. So we get the complete tub and surround. Then my father in law who was very overweight uses a folding chair as a shower chair.
    Offered to pay for the epoxy to fix the hole...
    .
    God bless his soul.
    .
    So now I need a new tub and surround, we had well water and it stained everything terribly.
    .
    I am encouraged by your bathroom. My aunt Loretta has the same wood in her bathroom painted it a bright sunny yellow with red trim.
    .
    Loved your 1st solar project. Maybe you could do a video comparing your 3 electric cars?

    Looking great! Another trick for marking a cut-out is to use a bright lipstick (from the dollar store😉) on the item you need to cut out for, then press your wall material to it. My husband did this for marking the outline of electrical boxes on the back of wall material for his new shop. Brenda, it's a good thing you love to paint! Looking forward to the finishing phase.

    You made the best decision in keeping that bathtub!! We have the same one in our 1890 farmhouse. Large sturdy bathtub. Newer tubs are cheap and small and uncomfortable! Also its good that you always keep the original character to whatever you are doing.

    • @waardenburgfamilyfarm4764
      @waardenburgfamilyfarm4764  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, we're happy with our decision. We're trying to keep it with the feel of the farmhouse. There's no way to keep it 'original' since in 1840 there wouldn't have been a bathroom. 😁 I'm sure you have plenty of adventures in your 1890 farm house. Thanks for watching!

    I’m so happy to hear it’s only essential tremor - I noted that in prior videos and didn’t feel it was appropriate to ask. Glad you’re healthy and able to do all the stuff you love!

      Thank you for the note. I've had the tremors for so long that I'm comfortable with them...but I don't want our new friends to be uncomfortable watching me deal with the challenge. I feel blessed to be in good health. Thanks for watching. Don.

    14:18 It's looking great! Growing up, when my mom would do a quick project, she'd say she was going for a "rustic" finish to excuse the less than square/straight areas. 😂 I've adopted the same mentality

    We have a ranch style home that is 61 years old and both bathrooms are small, so small you couldn't whip a cat in. Lol. We have tile and I know that it is going to be a mess like yours, so you picking the bead board was a wonderful idea. I can not wait to see the finished product!

      Hi, this is Don. Thanks for your support and for watching. Please tell your mother about a med that offers some relief...a bata blocker called Propranolol. Her doc could tell her if it is right for her. I just started and it reduces tremors by half for me. Take care.

    My next paint job will be in the kitchen and I’m going with White again and now that kitchen doesn’t have sheet rock. It has the original 1925 paneling it’s a flat paneling almost like it’s not lead Ward it’s on I don’t know what you would call it but it’s really cool so still work because you got a paint it maybe two or three times

    Love it and ya guys together are a Great team ..My husband and I are always doing DIYs in this 1925 small home (my childhood home)mom left it to me .. been here 22 years and we started out strong remodeling the restroom adding a restroom redoing the kitchen and then we started painting all the rooms. Well in 22 years I hadn’t done no updates so now we’re back at it with painting, we moved the laundry room from the hallway to the back restroom, but painting is the best thing over. It gives you such a new perspective with the color and all that and to tell you the truth I had a lot of color in the rooms and now I’m going with white and black trim and then I can add accent colors.

He also has doubts a lot of times but it works out great in the end.

    Fun to see your creativity. I’m wondering if your bath would be a good spot to install a sliding bath door so you don’t have to open a door into such a small bath.
    It would take some creative thought to find the right latch but could be a great way to create more space in the bathroom.

      Unfortunately, there's not enough room either inside the bathroom or outside. The hallway up there is very tiny too. (In a farmhouse, pretty much everything from that era is tiny) I love picket doors and tried to think of a way/place to use them, but it just isn't meant to be in this old house. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Good job. I thought maybe you would have kept the brick exposed. 😊

    • @waardenburgfamilyfarm4764
      @waardenburgfamilyfarm4764  7 месяцев назад +1

      There was no way to leave it explsed in this case because of the room being so small. The previous owners left those two sections exposed on the first floor because the outside wall became an inside wall when they added an adition. We also have no idea what condition all of the brick is in or if there are holes cut in the walls for windows, door..... If it was a larger bathroom we might have been able to experiment more. I do love the secions that we can see.
