    I'm a cabbage and cauliflower person, not into broccoli or Brussels sprouts. i have a cabbage that I cut late last fall and left the roots in the ground. It started growing again and now is flowering. i have decided to leave it and hope to save the seeds. Your grow room is amazing. I only have one wire rack in the living room window I'm also planting some carrots that I saved my own seeds on. God bless y'all and keep growing.

      We've never gotten into Brussels Sprouts either. Since the grandkids will eat broccoli, I grow a lot of it. They will eat most things if they know it comes from the garden. They enjoy going out and picking things to eat on the spot. (especially the berries) That's cool about the cabbage!!

    I up potted 48 tomato plants yesterday. We are getting nights of freezing temperatures at night this week. I covered my 30 cabbages and carrots with a frost blank hope they make it. I use grass clippings around my plants to hold moisture and keep the weeds at bay. I live in Southern Indiana.

    • @waardenburgfamilyfarm4764
      @waardenburgfamilyfarm4764  4 месяца назад

      Frost blankets should protect plants pretty well. I do add a thick layer of leaves and grass clippings mixed in the entire bed after I spread compost directly around the plants. It makes a huge difference in moisture retention as well as weed suppression. Thanks for the suggestion.... I'm always looking for better ways to do things.

      I truly love gardening. Being in our 60's we don't take anything for granted and enjoy all that we are able to do now. The soil didn't look good 4 years ago....it's been an uphill battle to get it healthy, but it's finally in pretty good shape. We'll definitely be showing Ruby in future videos. She's growing like a weed. 🐶

    Chelsea's advice did work very well. I told my daughter to put the sheep manure compost she got from my father, around her broccoli plants, and she got huge heads. But the little white cabbage moths found her patch and the side shoots had little green worms. She says she'll never try growing broccoli again. She's a first time gardener here in central Alberta, and she does not like bugs. They really creep her out. But she loves broccoli. I need to show her your video on protecting broccoli with a row cover.

      The best way to do organic gardening without spraying anything is to cover it if possible. Since broccoli doesn't need pollinated I keep it covered from planting until harvest. No cabbage moths.

    I use a pair of nippers (small pruners for bonsai) to trim the bottom leaves. This could help so you don't have to take your gloves on and off during planting.

      Yeah, I had my little trimmers in the golf cart and used them on the rest of them plants. I take off the bottom leaves several times over the summer. It seems to keep them healthier. Thanks for the tip .. I'm always looking for easier/better ways to do things.

    About 20 years ago we lived in the southwest part of Chester County Pa, Lincoln University. Our neighborhood was built on a 20 acre parcel of a Mennonite farm. Each house was on 2 acres. It was the first time I ever grew a garden. In my opinion it was effortless. The soil was so rich. I grew a variety of broccoli called Green Comet. 4 plants gave us enough broccoli to eat through the season and enough to freeze that would last until late Feb. Watching your videos makes me miss that area so much! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

      Getting our hands dirty is SOO good for us. I use Dr. Earth Organic Fertilizer that is for Veges and Flowers. I just mix a little bit in with the potting soil. Here's a link: www.amazon.com/Dr-Earth-Tomato-Vegetable-Fertilizer/dp/B079TC6H83/ref=sr_1_5?crid=19W7V72KO9D74&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.nlK6VPQd3o5T5Fn2FJluTCdPqF9P1LIVQ7vr3gmKPqVjx44WJQQ1vCd0ST-OsJyyQxDVElqSLc74Voi1Iq2TG_9F0rACXbO_VhU5qpdQFmnoDwOD02uj2wDJcyoQJ46kekcoNe6ItZCzpRNbjVhxznObAWS-xl6c1vASIm3RnLSgC8k96G1GBAg99zopMNYgvxuV5APgAgLQ_9-_TUCmyjzQOTwHK7BAkT4P3uah73nweYhMH3jGW2f7HrZUUyE4q9Zv7WN7br7t1AFGSrbseb3vlTDT30uLpOT_ByHyTyU.HWgJxm3eMMK1uTS54f5UEA03NCT1FHkfXf1nlO38IbI&dib_tag=se&keywords=dr+earth+organic&qid=1712260582&sprefix=dr+earth+organic%2Caps%2C77&sr=8-5

    It is crazy how plant starter prices are. I quit counting around $3K worth of plants that I started. I compared them to nursery and Lowe’s prices. I only spent about $400 in soil and seeds to get started.

      In the winter when it's just the ferns and fodder I only have them on for 12 hours. Now that I have garden plants in there I keep them on for 15 hours/day. As for the Lipstick....I'm sorry, I just grab one out of my drawer and there are about 10 of them.. It would be a different one in almost every video. Sorry I couldn't be more help. The only good thing about Spring snowstorms is that them melt quickly. Hopefully it will be your last. Thanks for watching!
