  • Arbottna is a manor house and a former manor at Arbottnavägen 21 on Muskö in Stockholm's southern archipelago. The property is located in Muskö parish in Haninge municipality, Stockholm county. Arbottna has been Muskö's only manor with older origins. In the 1790s, the current main building was built and the property was a fideicommission in the Levin family, until 1917. Currently (2016) detailed planning is underway for the "Project Drömgården" where the site's conditions for expanded residential and business development are to be investigated.
The area was already inhabited in ancient times, as a burial field with about 15 mounds approximately 525 meters north of Arbottna can testify to. Arbottna appears in written documents for the first time in 1544 as Arbonen. During the 16th century, the village consisted of one church plot and three mantal crown plots cultivated by fish farmers. In connection with Arbottna, there have been traces of a settlement from the Viking Age. During this time, the area belonged to the estates of the medieval Swedish royal families. This has led to speculation that a king's confidant was the one who first inhabited the estate.
The geometric land register of 1638 likewise occupies three farms; Norrgården, Sörgården and Mellangården. In 1646 the village in Arbottna was bought by Carl Carlsson Gyllenhielm. Anna Christina Bååt (1644-1733), who inherited Arbottna in 1669 had the farmers evicted and the village turned into a homestead. In 1680, she had a manor house and barn built at Arbottna. In 1699, Arbottna was withdrawn by the crown, but the manorial rights remained. The main building of the farm, which was then made of wood, was burned down during the Russian ravages in 1719. After that, Arbottna was without a farm building for 50 years and owners replaced each other at a rapid pace.

This was kind of emotional to me. I have been passing Arbottna to go to a little cottage from the 1700s every summer between 60s - 2000s. But now I don't have access to it any more. Wonderful nature every where and specifically along the east coast of Muskö.

Awww Sue!. Yes Muskö is one of the most beautiful islands I have visited. It’s like being in a movie with all the beauty around you everywhere you look. I also love the peace and tranquility you feel when you are there and no tourist flooding off boats….just a quiet peaceful, beautiful place. I love the summer breeze and the amazing coastline. ❤
