I think it was these kinds of random moments of warmth from Lorelai, that Lorelai threw out without really thinking about it, just because that's how she is and she wanted to get Paris to loosen up for a minute, that made Paris, who was really starved for warmth outside of her nanny, think of her as a second mother figure. (Her nanny, of course, being the first.)
its cool how this conversation lorelie and Paris has probably influenced her decision to break up with Doyle later, and Paris doing that influenced Rory's decision to say no to Logan, so its interesting to see Lorelei have this indirect influence on her daughter
@@lauriecarson6483 Lorelei didn't talk to Paris about Doyle when that was happening, but right here she teaches Paris the moral of not letting a guy influence your decisions for the future and she holds on to that moral when she decides to break up with Doyle so it wouldn't affect her grad school decision. She just held on to the advise

When I look at the series and try to imagine how it was originally meant to look, with Tristin instead of Jess, no April, and the last four words that signaled history repeating itself and all that, I find myself wondering if Lorelai was originally meant to be the actual main character, rather than a co-main character with Rory, but Rory became more than just the next Lorelai as the story took form.
Lorelai was the mom Paris never had but always needed...I'm guessing this scene may have directly nudged Paris into picking Yale -- which, ironically, cemented Paris in Rory's life as one of her two best friends.
1:05 I think this might be Emily’s favorite cardigan - she wears it 2-3 times throughout the series. She wears it in the finale too. 4:03 Liza Weil originally auditioned for the part of Rory (and got pretty close to getting it if I remember, but lost it to Alexis Bledel partially b/c Alexis looked more like Lauren). But ASP liked Liza and so she wrote her a 3 episode guest spot that turned into a series regular role. Anyway, this hug makes me think about what the show might have been if Liza was Rory.
