  • It’s time to see the tulips at Descanso Gardens, because they are peaking and are absolutely stunning right now! Tulips require cooler temperatures and aren’t as common in Southern California because we can have some very warm days even in the middle of winter.
St. Patrick’s Day at Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flinrtridge was absolutely stunning, but you’ll want to arrive early or on a weekday if you want to avoid the droves who stood in line to view the flowers at Descanso Gardens today. Every year, the garden is replanted with new tulip bulbs because of that chill requirement, so the display is constantly changing. I visited twice in six days and noticed that the bulbs that are in bloom are likely changing by the day, so get there NOW if you love tulips.
In addition to the tulips, camellias and cherry blossoms continue to delight visitors as of 3/17/2024. I spotted a few California poppies blooming as well and the California natives will soon be putting on their gorgeous spring show. We saw only one lilac really blooming on St. Patrick’s Day, but I know that there are many more to come in the next few weeks.
By the way, that Descanso Gardens membership is coming in handy, NOT sponsored in any way but it’s a great deal if you live in the area and love gardens. It’s fascinating to see how much things change during the seasons and I really love the gardens. What are your favorite spring flowers?
