This marked the final time conference title games ended before primetime, when the Super Bowl teams were set in stone by 8 PM rather than part 1 of the equation
Also the next to last broadcast for a legendary team. Pat Summerall and John Madden would call the Super Bowl in a week and then Summerall retired while Madden headed to ABC.
I preferred it the old way Daytime games with the sun out look better imo. I liked the way the changing of the shadows and twilight sky told you it was near the end of the game. The sun sets behind the stadium for anyone east of the Mississippi 5 minutes into the first quarter. I am a football snob and i won't apologize to anyone
Mcnabb has lost twice to Kurt Warner in the NFC Championship 01 when he was in St. Louis and 08 when he was in Arizona and both game were thrilling games
@@scottaznavourian5400-4 against Brady's teams in the postseason spanning 3 different decades WOW (2004 Super Bowl, 2015 divisional round, 2018 AFC title, 2020 Super Bowl)
Despite the loss, I thought the Eagles played better here than in the next two title game appearances (and I actually feel they were workmanlike in the NFC Title game win against the Falcons, but not overly impressive).
@@NYG5 Yeah, Terrell Owens would've made things much easier; MacNabb & he made magic together. Even though the Eagles 2004 playoff opponents weren't overly formidable, they did finally make it to the Bowl.
This was the best Eagles performance in any of their first 3 NFC Championships by a mile. That’s because the offense stepped up and didn’t rely on the defense to carry them through the playoffs. They would not be as fortunate when McNabb’s playoff performances inevitably dwindled in future playoff games
@@marcusmcgraw3519 Eagles did enough in that game to break through; they were so much better than any other NFC team in 2004 it was comical. The problem the Eagles had in those 2001-'03 games was lack of offensive firepower. That being said, they did a nice job against the Rams in the first conference championship game, and, with completely different skill players, made a valiant comeback against the Cardinals in the 2008 title game (very surprising participants right there, and in an NFC that was actually good again: Giants, Panthers, Falcons, Vikings, and our two friends here, who looked like they wouldn't be there).
@@gluserty I believe they should have beat the Cardinals. There’s a good chance if that extra point isn’t missed after touchdown 2, that the Eagles would have won with a touchdown instead And given the lousy Cardinals took it to the Steelers more than anyone expected, what would this Eagles team have been capable of? I know Leftwich started in their Week 4 win instead, but Ben didn’t play particularly well in 2008
Oh yeah I think the winner of Super Bowl 36 won 5 more & had the greatest QB, coach, & TE of all-time. I think whoever that QB was, his number was retired this last week too 🤔🤔
First playoff matchup between these two teams since 1989 and the first of four straight NFC title game appearances by the Eagles (last NFC team to do this was the Cowboys from 1992-1995 (Remember these days when this was like the norm, Cowboys fans? I do and it's been too long since then.... thanks a lot, Jerry.))
The first of three NFC championships that the Eagles and Andy Reid would lose. The sad part is that this was their closest chance out of the three. At least they finally got in the Super Bowl after their fourth try.
And not in the way that others are….he wasn’t super big or super ripped or super strong or super fast…..but in a close confined space you couldn’t touch him. If you’ve ever played football you know when you go to tackle someone you always blink….he’s one of the few guys that you can commit to making the tackle and in that millisecond that it took for you to close your eyes and open them again….he’s not there anymore
Eagles played well here. I always assumed those three NFC Championship losses were all embarrassing. Then came the fourth loss to Arizona, which they almost had.
It took an all-time goal line stand by the 49ers and a ridiculously loaded Rams team to beat Philly on the road. That says all you need to know about the 01 Eagles when they played away from the Vet.
Nobody would have believed at the time that this would be the Rams last ever home playoff win in STL.
Holy shit, really?
Nobody really believed the Rams ever belonged in St Louis though
@@jbsmg Yeah after this they only played 1 more home playoff game in STL. 2 years after this when the Panthers beat em in double OT.
@@marcusmcgraw3519 Im 29. It took me a while to adjust to them being back in LA
And ? It will always be their history. Just like 0-2 in Super Bowls is the LA Rams’ history.

Heartache. They were so close.
Tommorrow a dynasty is born....
Looked like it would be a Rams dynasty tho
I know right? The rams bout to win like 4 of these
Mcnabb has lost twice to Kurt Warner in the NFC Championship 01 when he was in St. Louis and 08 when he was in Arizona and both game were thrilling games
He play the defense not QB
The Rams proved they were the best in the NFC at the time. The Eagles proved they belonged among true contenders
All season long, I thought Philly was merely the best team of a weak division. They proved me wrong.
That would see the tone for the next 3 seasons!
You'll get a lot more opportunities, Reid.
As last long as doesn't run into t brady -and-or tampa 4 or 5 times...

Did not remember how close this game was, in score anyway.
This was the start of an almost-unprecedented run of greatness (and agony) in the history of the Eagles franchise.

Somewhat fitting that the Eagles fate was sealed by longtime NFC East nemesis Aeneas Williams
Just like in the season opener, an early fumble proved to be the difference that ultimately doomed the Eagles in a tightly contested matchup
After watching this Crazy Andy Reid only one super bowl win.

Pass interference on Aeneas Williams not called.
