Thanks so much Ali for starting to address this topic from a more holistic and complete perspective. I'm 42, just starting to contemplate the fact that this new life stage will become increasingly obvious to me sooner or later. I can't help but dread menopause - better put as you said as greiving my youth (partly because my job is particularly demanding of youthfulness).
I first started to notice occasional reduced cycle length a year or so ago. I've always used a period tracker app, but only now is it becoming really valuable as I can look back to see changes in cycle length. For the first time in my life, I have been using evening primose oil supplements, which appears to regulate my cycle length at the moment (could be a coincidence but that seems unlikely). I'm also hoping that via its (potential) effect on regulating hormones, it may help to maintain my skin quality (further research required by me). I'm doing specific type of squats/other exercises that focus on the thigh/hip area as this is where we tend to loose the most bone density. Soy milk has been a regular component of my diet for several years based on potential estrogenic properties (again I need to research more carefully how potentially beneficial this is!). Interesting that you commented about castor oil plus rose hip oil - I've recently started using rose hip oil alone, just because I consider it a very nutritious skin moisturiser. Hope these thoughts are useful to anyone reading and will try to update if I reconsider the benefits of any of these routines/products.

Very useful. Keep me updated. I take evening primrose oil occasionally but didn't take it with me for the summer. I'll halve to get on it again and and track the changes. Soy milk seems really important in Korean research. Menopausal women drink it in menopause for skin, beauty, hormonal health. Also a very good topic because everyone is so scared of it.

I'm also aware that Korean culture has much advanced knowledge on skin care, didn't know about their soy use, thanks for adding that, inspires to look deeper into Korean traditions!

This was much needed, Ali! The bombardment of information lately has had me feeling overwhelmed. I’ve felt the shift taking place for me already starting last year when I turned 38. Changing perspective and being grateful for the next version of me is what I’ll be focusing on moving forward. And building muscle. 😂
Love you, Ali and I hope y’all had a wonderful time at the pool!

You are right! It does feel that you have been turned inside out after menopause. I admit I was one of the lucky ones but I did research menopause while still in my mid thirties and implemented soy and other holistic remedies. I am now 62 and I was lucky in that my menopause consisted mainly of increased anger. I had only 2 hot flushes that I was aware of. I did however have a lot of disturbed sleep ,but that may or may not have been because of other factors.I never felt that my body was the enemy and am constantly in awe of what my body is capable of. Prayers for all the ladies still going through the process, please be gentle on yourselves and know that HRT is not the only way. Respecting your doctor’s advice of course.

I value your opinion Ali and look fwd to PT 2. I am on hrt but am still experiencing disturbed sleep and anxiety/paranoia. I recently tried formula303 for relaxation as I'm hoping for a calmer me w/out prescription drugs. I need my sleep back!😢

Thank you for this.. . Your observation about our view of menopause as a strictly negative event and also the cult of youthfulness making the symptoms worse seems very true. I have been down on myself for feeling the changes starting at 38, thinking I must be doing things wrong or not doing the right things... but really most likely it's the constant stress of having our animal sanctuary that might be affecting me most.. and my genetics which tend towards early menopause. Anyway, thanks for your balanced and not so dire thoughts.

I'm curious about how long-term use of birth control will impact the transition into menopause. I have had the Mirena iud nonstop since I was 20 and have never had kids. My periods never regulated for the few years before I got my 1st iud put in. I to this day never know what my body is doing

Part 3 😂, can you talk about hormone changes and supporting your organs (skin) through it. With a shift in my sex hormones my skin is suffering now.

Ah, have you tried castor oil on the entire body the way you would use a lotion? You have to warm up your hands so it has higher viscosity. Or mix it with rosehip so it's lighter/thinner, easier to spread. Soybean, black cohosh, flax seed, hops also can help with balancing estrogen levels. You can find the one that works for you 😊
