I feel like they don’t know what they want to be. At least they’re trying though. Back in the day pretty much anything outside of the roast chicken, chips and veggies were inedible and hideous. Now they’re turning into some sort of knock off kfc but it tastes like the “southern style fried chicken” you buy in frozen bags at the supermarket. Around 10 years ago they had these potato bite things that were unreal.

People in Aus don't see it on social media as much as American brands. So it got bagged on hard. People try to be cool so they repeat what others say. Very few people in Aus form their own opinions because they don't want to be outcasts. Red Rooter has always been a good alternative to other fast food. Now they have to change because people want greasy unhealthy options.

For those who haven’t tried Red Rooster in a few years because some of them were pretty terrible, I’d suggest giving them another go especially the fried chicken and the new burgers/sandwiches. I’m in Queensland and the outlets near me at least have really lifted their game with the new menu, and the older items are way better on average than they were as well. Solid review in my opinion and consistent with my experience of RR lately.

FIRSTLY, hormones are not added to chicken feed or administered to chickens by commercial chicken breeders in Australia. There has been a huge move away from caged chickens and eggs produced by caged chickens. So, flavour is better. And SECONDLY, moistness is a product of the cooking technique. Love RR cheesy nuggets with fries, mash and gravy. The chicken salt on the fries is next level and makes up for them being not as crispy as I like them. Their rotisserie chickens are a bit pricey but always nice. To be honest the rotisserie chickens from the supermarket are “nearly” as good and only $12 -$15 for a whole RSPCA Approved chicken or a free range chicken. Also you can get a discount at RR if you belong to the RACV (car club).
I also have to say that back in the days of Wendy’s Hamburger chain, the hit and miss quality of their food was turned around when Hungry Jacks took them over and then the cooking of the beef etc improved, and thankfully, they included the iconic Aussie Burger with its sliced beetroot, bacon and egg, fresh lettuce, onion and tomato, cheese, tomato sauce and NO mayo. If you love mayo, fine order another burger on the menu or ask for mayo, but Wendy’s would asked if you wanted it then quite often put it on anyway after you said NO.

Best thing Red Rooster used to have, was their gravy torp. Basically like the third sandwich (pulled chicken, not the tenders) but the chicken was thoroughly covered in gravy - no idea why they took it off of the menu. Apparently you can still get it, you either ask for the torp with no sauce (just the chicken) and just buy a plain gravy yourself and apply it, or some places still will construct it for you provided you buy the items separately like this.

I used to work at Red Rooster, with the chicken we do brine it for a minimum of 1 day, so its mostly just stuff it, season it and chuck in the freezer. I'm not sure if you can, like you say "inject it" with some sus stuff before it arrives at the store but personally I haven't seen that much of disgusting off putting stuff when gutting out the fat so maybe its so juicy because of the custom steam ovens, not sure. The rooster roll gets pre made with left over chicken and then re-heated upon order. Roast chickens are cooked fresh everyday. They’re salted and stuffed then kept in the cool room until cooked. As for the fried it’s kept raw in the cool room and only brought out when needed to be cooked. It gets coated and battered just before cooking.

The rooster roll is chewy because it’s microwaved, The chicken comes from leftover whole roast chickens that weren’t sold the day before, and the made rolls are stored cold until you order them and then microwaved. Now normally microwaving bread is shit, but thats kinda why i like it (only this roll) it’s the slight chewiness and ultra soft bread that I think makes it a crowd favourite.

I used to work at Red Rooster when I was a kid. Those rooster rolls are infamous and the sogginess is the best part of them imo. To counter that, fill it up with chips to get some crunch. They are made with any roast chickens that are leftover from the day before, 60% white meat, 40% brown meat. The sauce is made from the stuffing inside the chicken, broken up and mixed with mayo. These days the don't put enough sauce in the rolls, which to me is the most important part of the roll. The whole roast chickens are NOT brined overnight or anything like that. They are put on a spit, and coated in chicken salt, the same salt they put on the chips. That's it, then they go into the spit roaster for 3 hours. Hope this sheds some light on it for you.

Red rooster is my last choice here in Australia. Their new fried chicken is pretty good though.

You should try meat pies, chicken pies etc. You don't have them in the US and they are popular here. Harry's Cafe De Wheels is the spot if you're in Sydney.

Excited to watch, im glad you tried red rooster. The burgers are an easy 10/10 imo, and the pineapple fritters.
Edit: If you see this, why didn't you try one of the burgers?

Personally I prefer RedRoosters chips to KFC or McDonalds. People like to joke for years that no one goes to RR, yet they're still in business so that can't exactly be true.
They have definitely upped their game the last several years thiugh and expanded their menu.
Another to try is El Jannah, which is a wsstern Sydney originated - lebanese charcoal chicken chain.
And if you do visit sydney, also check out the banh Mi situation. Really popular there. Actually popular in most capital cities but especially Sydney. Marrickville pork roll is one of the OGs. They have a few shops now. There's a couple in the CBD/city centre too.

And also stuffed chicken is so normal in Australia, if you buy a rotisserie chicken you'd have a harder time finding one without stuffing
