Great review...put me in the Kia camp. The fact that a DUAL motor Kia EV6 has the same efficiency as a RWD model VW is really impressive. I'd take the Kia on styling, tech and warranty...but both are great cars
Just confirm my order for the EV AWD, for the money I got a much better deal with KIA than VW with all the extras, plus a really good servicing package too.
I had been waiting to test drive the Ioniq 5 & EV6. However it would appear from this and other tests that the main advantage is that charging speed, but where I live and drive, the fastest chargers are 60kW. So may as well save the extra 20k and buy the Skoda Enyaq or MG5
Dont know your circumstances but you don't need to charge so fast around where you live, its more useful to charge fast when you're on a longer journey. If you regularly drive away from your county then check again, the Ioniq 5/EV6 will fare better in terms of journey times. If you rarely charge away from your local area then yes Enyaq would be my choice too using 11kW AC 'slow' chargers or 50kW networks.
@@chrischild3667 That’s the difficult one, working from home now, so don’t travel much, but when I do its 200-300 mile motorway round trips a few times a month. Been using the local Co-Cars’s Zoes for those and has been fine for the 200 mile ones, charging is a pain longer than that. The range of the Enyaq is so good though I can comfortably do 250 miles in winter with a short 20 mins top up to get me home.
@@stephenwensley Oh nice one. Yea I've got an etron 50, maxes out at 125kW which seems plenty. It can fill up in as much time as it takes to grab something to eat and go to the toilet after 2.5hours driving. I understand the MEB cars like Enyaq may be in line for a 170kW over the air upgrade too? Hard to argue either way. The tech software in the Koreans look impressive but personally the bongs would drive me insane. My old Mitsubishi Outlander was the same 😅
I guess the big difference will be the charge times, when you charge the EV6 when out and about, the EV6 should be like the Taycan, the ID4 will be slower? My 4S did 246 miles with the ambient at 15C on a journey from Northamptonshire to Littlehampton and back mix of Motorway, A roads and B roads. The EV6 would make a great second car for us. In the end, both use Rimac expertise as both Porsche / Kia / Hyundai are working with Rimac for the 800V system / motors / drive systems. Will be interesting to see what the full EV6 GT is like compared to a 4S.
Might be interesting to see how efficient a RWD only EV6 is as well? If its Rimac for the 800v cars, who did Kia partner with for the E-Niro etc, because it seems more efficient than the EV6 respectively!?
In case of charging there is no preheating of battery before charging. So first xy minutes coldgating after that rapidgating. Temperature between cells is around/more10°C and that is main problem why coldgating is too long and rapidgating to soon. In case of eNiro difference is around 6°C between cells.
@@rastislavsorl2593 well in the scheme of power use it shouldn’t make any negligible difference really. But, car is going to be either locked with me somewhere else. Or me in it. In which case I want it on. I want to keep any examples very much real world and that means doing what most users would do…
The ID.4 with dual motor would be similar because the dual motor does not kick in unless the car is pushed. It will turn itself off at normal motorway speeds. The only very minor loss in efficiency is due to the slightly higher weight. If I were choosing between these 2 cars I would go with the EV6.
Is it the case that the dual motor on this EV 6 will have have more power and have better acceleration? Would you not then expected EV 6 to be less efficient?
ID.4 is so poorly optimized that although it was supposed to do significantly better than ev6, it only managed to perform on par with it. So no, EV6 is not less efficient. It's just better engineered.
Same efficiency? but Kia EV6 is a AWD 325cp and ID4 RWD 204cp. Why they are the same? I prefer to drive an EV6 for the same 250 miles with more power, a more secure AWD than RWD on iD4. I think Kia is way better than iD4.

i have an id4 since last may and to be honest I'm fed up with it the slow response from the software its annoying and i look at the interior of the car which is rather bland for something that cost €56,000 here in ireland I'm considering changing it for a kia ev6
@@gerryheery1388 I ended up buying a Q4 etron two months ago, it has Audi’s MMI interface so I’m not experiencing the VW problems. So far it’s a great car with some minor bits, but overall I’m happy with it.
Another great video but I find the comments about 250 mile range slightly misleading. Yes, that’s the range if you run from 100% to 0% but who does that? Who will ever run their car down to 0%? Given the recommendation for battery usage is to try and stick between 10-80% charge so in the real world your likely maximum usable range is in the region of 175 miles (against a manufacturer claimed range of around 300 miles)…..and therein lies the reason why I cancelled my Ioniq 5 order and went for a PHEV. Until these cars can do a minimum of at least 250 usable miles ie actual 0-100% range of in excess of 300 miles even in cold weather and at motorway speeds then switching to full EV is not for me.
You are partially right. It is acceptable to charge a car to 100% if you are about to use it so if you have a 300 mile drive your car could be at 100% on your drive ready to go having charged up overnight. I personally still would not charge beyond 90% partly because regen works better if the battery is not full and partly because we would never need 100% for our needs. If you really do need 300 miles of uninterrupted range then there are options and will be many more in the next 2 or 3 years. Don't forget that EV tech is about 13 years old but ICE tech is about 130 years old.
Talking about motorway driving, i have a Ioniq5 RWD and cant decide if brake resistance on or off is better for range efficiency. I appreciate that using the brake resistance to gather additional battery charge, but does the resistance also cost you range, and would they balance out as you can coast a lot more using no energy with resistance on 0 ? Anyone thank you,
Hi I have the same car Set up auto regen see videos how to do it Use cruise control as often as you can Long term average for me driving mainly sport and normal mode is 4.5 miles per kWh
Surely the Kia must be way more efficient or slightly, because it’s way bigger and heavier as well as 4 wheel drive and equals a smaller lighter car with only 2 wheel drive! Plus much faster 0-62 and top speeds
A couple of points that matter to me, though maybe less for others. The EV6 and Ioniq 5 are big cars, and quite wide. The ID.4 is slightly more compact, which I prefer as it's easier to use in country lanes and city streets. Also, both can tow though the Kia and Ioniq 5 can tow up to 1600kg, whereas the ID.4 can tow 1000kg (more with AWD). Just some points that often don't get mentioned.

You didn’t mention how quick the Kia is to recharge. Not sure if you have the same capacities in the UK but Electrify America (owned wholly by the VW group) is beginning to have charging stations with 800v ultra fast capabilities that Kia is equipped to utilize. Kia says that it will need 18 minutes (see European and U.S. specs) to recharge from 10-80% SOC at an 800 V ultra-fast charger with a peak of 239 kW and that 100 km (62 miles) of range can be replenished in 4.5 minutes.
To add some detail - had an EV6 Gt Line S RWD on lengthy test drive over the weekend. Frost both nights and temperatures only just above freezing for pretty much all of the 174 miles I drove. Drove it normally, not like I stole it, and managed 2.8m/kwh - with 20% charge left the projected range was 39 miles, so in all just over 210 miles range in cold (for the UK) temperatures. Pretty much exactly ties in with the rules of thumb, namely in real world expect 80% of wltp and deduct a further 20% for winter use. So its not for me - I hoped for a bit better. Also worth pointing out the HVAC seemed to have an issue - namely blew warm for 20 mins then whatever you did, whatever you set the temperature at, it just blew cold air. Further digging around forums has highlighted a potential issue all to do with a faulty compressor - Kia are apparently aware
interesting - my Enyaq 60 did 3.7 m/kWh from Livingston near Edinburgh to Milton Keynes this week - Gretna, Leeds Skelton Lakes were the only stops I needed .
Seems like the Kia is more efficient, because you did the trip in an AWD Kia, vs. a RWD VW. The RDW-only version of the EV6 advertises longer range than the AWD version. Also, Bjorn Nyland’s testing suggests that the 77.x Kwh is useable capacity on the ID.4, but total capacity on the EV6, from what I understand. So a couple of reasons in this video to think that Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP Platform is more efficient than VW Group’s MEB platform. Thanks for the otherwise apples-to-apples testing (weather, sited, etc.)! :-)

@@clansome but that’s the thing. The Tesla in this video, and the model Y which has virtually same efficiency, is dual motor all the time and is still the most efficient.
All these people going on about AWD vs Rear wheel drive, you do realize that the EV only uses the extra motor for AWD when needed, not all the time right, when it needs extra traction it engages, or if you punch it, and it needs the extra power, otherwise its letting the rear motor do most of the work to save energy
Kia EV6 definitely won this, because it is as efficient as the ID4 although it has all wheel drive and the ID4 is rear wheel drive. The Kia as rear wheel drive model is more efficient as the all wheel drive, like it is in any other EV. So if you would have compared the ID4 with the Kia as rear wheel drive as it would be fair than the Kia would win. That's not a complaint about the comparison, just saying that you have to consider that
So do I wish we went fully metric and I am British. Did my schooling and university degree in SI units and 50 years later we are still using miles and inches!
I was recently introduced to an ID.6 Asisde from the amazing space and beautiful design, the infotainment system is rubbish and almost unusable, every thing is a touch based interface, so no buttons and some of the surfaces where u need to touch are either not back lighted or barely visible.
From everything I've read and watched, I'd avoid the VW, software not ready for general use and I would not be prepared to be an early adopter/tester for them.
These range tests using only part of the battery and using the percentage of battery use reported by the car should be taken with many grains of salt. It could be right but you just don't know. If you started both at 100% (when it refused to take more energy) and drove them together on the same route and then recharged them both to refusal and took the number of kWh used you would get an accurate comparison of distance/kWh but you would still not know the real usable capacity of the battery which can only be determined by driving it to the point where the car dramatically cuts the power (to a few % of full charge amount) or just stops. Please do that kind of test.
Very pertinent - there is a known issue with (some) Kia EV6 HVAC systems - blows warm for 20 mins then reverts to cold whatever you set the temperature at. Kia I understand working on a solution. Doesn't affect all cars but the demo loaner I had at the weekend suffered
How is it every comparison to ID.4 is done by two motor version vehicles to ID.4 having just one. The ID.4 awd gets just 11miles less than the single rear motor Also all other compared to ID.4 are thousands of dollars more. Not exactly apples to apples.
The EV6 is dual motor so if the ID4 was dual it would have used considerably more power. So I’d say the EV6 won. I think I’d like that one but it is not available in US.
Not so sure about the look of the EV6 in real life don’t think it’s going to age well, it’s also massive in the flesh plus very dark and gloomy inside, which is a shame as expected to like it more

I've got an EV6 on order in Runway Red. They're only bringing 200 to Canada for the initial release and I'm guessing most people have gone for black, white or the satin grey.
Lol ordered one in Runway Red too :) . It looks fantastic in that color.
That's a surprising result for me. I was thinking the ID.4 would of been more efficient than the EV6 because of it's 2 wheel drive but there you go.
If you put it in eco it’s basically a RWD
@@wybren18 so the EV6 would of been even more efficient. It would be interesting to see if there's any difference when both cars are in eco mode.
@@wybren18 Would love to see someone test a RWD vs. an AWD in Eco mode. Obviously the AWD with the additional motor will be heavier, but maybe not enough to make a real difference.
With the EV6 AWD you get more car for your money and the software already works fine. For us we ordered the car in Snow White Pearl for delivery hopefully in August 2022. Thanks for your reviews especially on the luggage space with the test boxes. We need to fix a Schmitt aluminium box for our Gordon Setter an hope he also feels well with the new car...
Great review...put me in the Kia camp. The fact that a DUAL motor Kia EV6 has the same efficiency as a RWD model VW is really impressive. I'd take the Kia on styling, tech and warranty...but both are great cars
Exactly. I think for a equal comparison they should have driven a EV6 RWD version.
@@patrickroozendaal808 agree 100% with you. 👍
Just confirm my order for the EV AWD, for the money I got a much better deal with KIA than VW with all the extras, plus a really good servicing package too.
That ev6 is a really good looking car if I could change it somewhere/home would seriously consider it
Love your vids I want ev6 go keep it up.
My old Mitsubishi Outlander was the same 😅
@@chrischild3667 everyone seems to comment on the bongs, will probably get to me as well. We’ll see when I get to test them on Saturday
@@stephenwensley happy testing 👍
Video incl charging against a few other cars coming soon…
Might be interesting to see how efficient a RWD only EV6 is as well?
If its Rimac for the 800v cars, who did Kia partner with for the E-Niro etc, because it seems more efficient than the EV6 respectively!?
In case of charging there is no preheating of battery before charging. So first xy minutes coldgating after that rapidgating. Temperature between cells is around/more10°C and that is main problem why coldgating is too long and rapidgating to soon. In case of eNiro difference is around 6°C between cells.
@@RSEV just one good advice : try to turn off HVAC during charging, u will see difference. 😀
@@rastislavsorl2593 well in the scheme of power use it shouldn’t make any negligible difference really.
But, car is going to be either locked with me somewhere else. Or me in it. In which case I want it on.
I want to keep any examples very much real world and that means doing what most users would do…
So the Kia is more effivient becuasue it used the same amount of energy even though it has much more power, all wheel drive and better performance.
The Kia design is terrific.
The review, superb as always
The ID.4 with dual motor would be similar because the dual motor does not kick in unless the car is pushed. It will turn itself off at normal motorway speeds. The only very minor loss in efficiency is due to the slightly higher weight. If I were choosing between these 2 cars I would go with the EV6.
I'd have preferred 2WD vs 2WD cars. Ev6 cannot be worse in this configuration, so the range is probably slightly better...
I guess the AWD Kia's potentially higher consumption was offset by its lower height - a factor at motorway speeds especially.
I have got the EV6 GT-Line S RWD in Batmobile Black, looks absolutely amazing. Tempted to get the front and rear badges wrapped in matte black. 👍
3yrs vs 7 yrs warranty...
AWD consume more energy then RWD because of additional motor. I believe EV6 in Eco mode only use RWD motor without front
It still uses AWD in eco mode, when first pulling away, and if you accelarate hard, OK, well mine does, UK version.
I’m looking at both of these cars for purchase, along with the model Y. Really appreciate your videos, cheers!
Have another video showing range and charging and we did that alongside our model 3 which we’ve also previously filmed alongside a model Y… have a scroll through our other videos 👍
i have an id4 since last may and to be honest I'm fed up with it the slow response from the software its annoying and i look at the interior of the car which is rather bland for something that cost €56,000 here in ireland I'm considering changing it for a kia ev6
@@gerryheery1388 I ended up buying a Q4 etron two months ago, it has Audi’s MMI interface so I’m not experiencing the VW problems. So far it’s a great car with some minor bits, but overall I’m happy with it.
Went to a dealer event.
Looks good in Silver. (They also had the red, didn't like that as much.
Interested to hear your thoughts about the Kia issue with HVAC and battery charging on at the same time.
Look at the videos from Bjorn Nyland. Only for the first like 10 minutes or so. Not a real issue.
Keep the videos coming very informative and well done. Serg no hard feelings on the last vid comment was just asking to see what happened to Ginc ✌️
Enjoy your reviews!
Color, nice to see something other than white, black and silver. Like the EV6 , more unique , new , fresh.
Have you got your name down for the all new Niro
Talking about motorway driving, i have a Ioniq5 RWD and cant decide if brake resistance on or off is better for range efficiency. I appreciate that using the brake resistance to gather additional battery charge, but does the resistance also cost you range, and would they balance out as you can coast a lot more using no energy with resistance on 0 ? Anyone thank you,
Hi I have the same car
Set up auto regen see videos how to do it
Use cruise control as often as you can
Long term average for me driving mainly sport and normal mode is 4.5 miles per kWh
Surely the Kia must be way more efficient or slightly, because it’s way bigger and heavier as well as 4 wheel drive and equals a smaller lighter car with only 2 wheel drive! Plus much faster 0-62 and top speeds
So Kia, the much more performant AWD is a draw with the RWD VW? 5.2 to 60 vs 6.5 to 60 for the VW, there is no draw, Kia wins by miles
Are there 20 inch wheels on both cars ?
A couple of points that matter to me, though maybe less for others. The EV6 and Ioniq 5 are big cars, and quite wide. The ID.4 is slightly more compact, which I prefer as it's easier to use in country lanes and city streets. Also, both can tow though the Kia and Ioniq 5 can tow up to 1600kg, whereas the ID.4 can tow 1000kg (more with AWD). Just some points that often don't get mentioned.
A few people have said this, the EV6 was all wheel drive. So not quite like for like. So a rear wheel EV6 in theory should be more efficient.
according to WLTP, 313 v 300 miles so not huge difference
How are you getting away using a hand held radio ?.

Should have said no heat pump on this EV6
I prefer the ID4 , if I was to get the Kia it would have to be be yellow In colour .
interesting - my Enyaq 60 did 3.7 m/kWh from Livingston near Edinburgh to Milton Keynes this week - Gretna, Leeds Skelton Lakes were the only stops I needed .
the benefit of flatter roads than I have around the Welsh border- plus was -1° this morning so range in the EV6 was hopeless
I think a fair comparison is kia ev6 rwd against id4 rwd. Great video still!
Very interesting….I will go electric in a few years time, once we have better battery charge times….I will consider home charging for sure…..this is the future, wonder what will be available in ten years time….exciting cleaner greener better times lie ahead..great video too
Are those gridserve chargers at Toddington ones you can just pay as you go, with a normal bank card or do you have to be a member?
Yes pay as you go, but still not brilliant fast or new machines. They’ll be upgraded soon probably

Hi, between the Hyundai and the Kia which has the better level of adaptive cruise tech, Hyundai adverttise Level 2 whereas Kia do not but watching your video they seem the same.
Nice review. I will be smiling at the ID.4 when the EV6 charges about 1,75 faster at HPC levels. Comparing both cars for a road trip of 750miles, driving in Germany at 85 mph the ID.4 will take hours and hours longer to achieve the 750 miles. In that case I will be smiling and enjoying my next beer at the bar, all settled and stuff ...
Just one Note: if we want to compare, we need to know if we have equal battery capacity available between 0% to 100% SOC. Is it really 77kwh?
The EV6, will be my first EV, since i don't like Tesla, finally a EV i like.
I’d like to see a test with family of 4 , luggage and drink mix day, night.
My ID4 has a heat pump, and range in freezing windy Scotland in 3.5miles/kwh
Nice!
I’m not sure if US models bring the heat pump.
Anybody knows?

Be nice if the vw badge was on the Kia , KIA looks much better
I think ev6 with awd & heat pump ties the id4 2 wheel drive... Think ev6 squeek out a win.
The choice between an unreliable Volkswagen en a Kia… not very hard
Is the EV6 for sale?
AppleS and oranges comparison. Id4 has a single motor whereas the Ev6 has dual. Ev6 is sexier car hands down.
Very impressed with ID4 efficiency. Would always have expected the Kia to be far better, esp with heat pump. Both were good though at 70 mph and not really very warm temperatures
Main difference is Dual Motor. Single motor is more economical.
@@clansomewrong! The front engine in the Kia is disengaged under normal conditions.
@@cartmann227 If you check the Kia spec sheets 2WD does 313 mi, AWD does 300 mi on WLTP when using 20" rims. If it's 19" rims then the figures are 328 mi and 314 mi.
That's not a complaint about the comparison, just saying that you have to consider that
Love your video's but just wish you and the UK would go Metric
So do I wish we went fully metric and I am British. Did my schooling and university degree in SI units and 50 years later we are still using miles and inches!
Even though I own an iD4 but ev6 is better looking and better car general than iD4 without any doubt.
When will you be testing one of the top Chinese cars
I was recently introduced to an ID.6 Asisde from the amazing space and beautiful design, the infotainment system is rubbish and almost unusable, every thing is a touch based interface, so no buttons and some of the surfaces where u need to touch are either not back lighted or barely visible.
Nice video and great car 🙂👍
From everything I've read and watched, I'd avoid the VW, software not ready for general use and I would not be prepared to be an early adopter/tester for them.
Apples to oranges comparison, either both AWD or both RWD.
I would go for Ioniq 5!
AWD vs RWD? I presume the EV6 is "more powerful" and quicker (motors front and back) and that a RWD only EV6 would have gone further...no?
These range tests using only part of the battery and using the percentage of battery use reported by the car should be taken with many grains of salt. It could be right but you just don't know. If you started both at 100% (when it refused to take more energy) and drove them together on the same route and then recharged them both to refusal and took the number of kWh used you would get an accurate comparison of distance/kWh but you would still not know the real usable capacity of the battery which can only be determined by driving it to the point where the car dramatically cuts the power (to a few % of full charge amount) or just stops. Please do that kind of test.
How is the heating working in the car.

The ID.4 awd gets just 11miles less than the single rear motor
Also all other compared to ID.4 are thousands of dollars more. Not exactly apples to apples.
Not even close. EV6 hands down.
This is not exactly a like for like comparison. The range for a 4WD car is expected to be slightly lower than a RWD car.
Never compare German with Korean car
Really don’t like this new trend of full width light bars on the back of cars now
The EV6 is dual motor so if the ID4 was dual it would have used considerably more power. So I’d say the EV6 won. I think I’d like that one but it is not available in US.
Not so sure about the look of the EV6 in real life don’t think it’s going to age well, it’s also massive in the flesh plus very dark and gloomy inside, which is a shame as expected to like it more
Considering the EV6 is the slightly thirstier dual motor then the RWD EV6 would probably be that bit better - maybe the same as the model Y...
So why not use the rwd version of the EV6… this is apples and pears….🤷♂️
Not even close, EV6 far classier.
