@@G10-n7f he is 30 but I agree definitely looks younger. He has a RUclips channel which I have followed and I think he even reads as even younger there. Although 30 is not exactly young for a ballet dancer it’s also a time in which they can be in there absolute prime so I’m glad to see he’s getting his chance at this age.
My hats off to these dancers!! Such dedication to the art, and total commitment! His form is beautiful, and he has that ability to look like he flying, just hanging in the air!!
most people do not realize how important is ballet & performing arts impact on humankind, how to deal with our fragile nature and make it worthy. Any criminal intention is having roots there, on feeling fragile, vulnerable, tiny and ...worthless. Trying to keep the body under control for first is the biggest challenge above all. Ballet performers help us realize how far we are from being so ... strong, it's about dealing with our human material nature, yeah, we can build up a better humankind together, hanging on things that make life worth living
So proud of him! He has come such a long way! I always have so much respect for people who are truly passionate about what they are doing, and are willing to sacrifice anything just to achieve their goals. Huge respect for him!
So he has been in the US for ten years! Houston has been welcoming to Asian dancers since Mao's Last Dancer joined the company. And I was glad to see Sara Mearns is still dancing, 20 years or more since she was chosen for Swan Lake at 19.
Congratulations! In so far as ballet is a global phenomenon, I hope we can incorporate Chinese balletic influences in some future NYCB offerings. I'd hate to think that all Chinese ballet has to offer is technique! Surely not!
@@chrislieu6757 I don’t think that’s what the commenter meant. He just meant representation matters. I don’t think there is affirmative actions in the ballet world.

Houston Ballet is unquestionably a top top world class company. There’s an argument to be made that it’s the best classical company in the country (and this is coming from someone whose favorite company is NYCB!).
Congratulations, To Chun Wai Chan! Your Dance Moves, are So Delightfully Natural! So Glad your Parents, agreed To Send you To Profesdional Ballet Dancing School! You are Working with A Team of Fine Americans, and I Can See, they Absolutely, DOTE, Over you! AIM HIGH! The Sky is your Limit, Bud! I Wish you Great Success!
He’s anti-gravity in many ways…making a life choice at 12 in a written disclaimer of being responsible for his own choice set the stage. Hope he can write a memoir one day - a journey similar and yet different to Mao’s last dancer.
I doubt it. That’s what lifting your own body in a million different ways each day does to it. I’m not sure lifting weights or using resistance bands would engage even half the muscles that dancers regularly use.
Chinese son: "Mom, dad, I became the first Chinese principal dancer at the NYC Ballet." Chinese parents: "But you're still not the best ballet dancer in the world."
He so handsome too....
What a journey! I know his parents and I still remember him when he was only 3 years old.
Lovely!
How old is he anyway? because he seems young which is an accomplishment considering he’s a principal dancer now.

I was lucky enough to see Chun Wei Chan perform at the Houston Ballet on my birthday a few years back. He’s brilliant 🥰

What-a-beautiful-dancer!
4:23 “I think I would say this is my second home and I enjoy the life here so much.”
Mr Chun is charmingly diplomatic.
There was no need for that question. He really answered the question well.
Chun Wai Chan is truly a blessing to the world of dance and to our world as well. ❤️

I'm absolutely certain he is extremely talented but I gotta say that derrière looks just simply amazing.
Right!!! Very tight, very firm!
Ha ha sheesh
And he has the best legs in the biz. Harder to see them in this video but look at some of his old Chunner studio or Harper Watters/Pre Show videos
How wonderful! Best of luck to him.

I'm not sure people realize what a huge deal this is. NYC ballet is so renowned
Lovely person. First saw him on Instagram and Became a huge fan.
He seems to be a really nice guy. Diversity does make it better.
What is "it"?
He does seem really nice, so we shouldn't cheapen his humanity with the "diversity" crap.
Can we just say he was the best available dancer or do have to say he was a diversity hire?

Good job young man👏🏻👏🏼👏🏾👏🏿🤩😍👏🏾👏🏼👏🏻👏🏿
He is really amazing performer, apart from he looks like a humble human
He dodged the question if he’s American. Great response! Congrats on what he accomplished.
I felt like a schoolgirl with the giggles when he said the guy was preparing for the nutcracker. (Yes, I am obviously immature). 🤭
He’s amazing!! I hope to see him one day.
I love this 💗💗💗 So inspiring! And Christina is so good at ballet as well!
very risky sport and hats off to the bloke.

Hope they bring back CBS. morning Saturdays on CBS news channel..its my source of news for the week, as I work a full shift on weekdays

Wow, his muscles are so impressive. Do they have to work out at gyms too like rigorously other than ballet training?

CYA from the New York City ballet. Excited for chun, but hope things have changed there for the other dancers too.
What has been/ was happening?
Chinese son: "Mom, dad, I became the first Chinese principal dancer at the NYC Ballet."
Chinese parents: "But you're still not the best ballet dancer in the world."
😂😂. Damn Chinese parents. I laugh but I’m not sure this attitude is a good thing
Ballet my not have the same energy of like hip-hop, but it's awesome and even fun. The Nutcracker is also my favorite Ballet and Christmas story
