@ I’m so glad you enjoyed them! That greatly filled my heart. I highly encourage you to also check out their debut “Jeopardy” as well as their 3rd album “All Fall Down”
This is a phenomal album, so many great songs on here and their very underrated. You gotta hit their debut album Jeopardy which is just as good as this one. Some great songs on there too: ‘I Can’t Escape Myself, Heartland, Missiles, Heyday, Resistence’ to name a few. Please do more of The Sound! PS. Return to The Chameleons soon!
This LP is probably the critics favourite, but the next one, All Fall Down, is much better. Definitely more challenging for first-time listeners though!
Glad you got around to this album. Often reminds me of The Chameleons. An album that threatens to be great but just stumbles at the last minute. I blame the missing apostrophe from the title! Some of Adrian's torment is in here. Thoughtful reaction.
I cannot forget that on 99, the saturday after the April 26th, a radio host over here (Braga, Portugal) did a special show dedicated tô Adrian Borland. I"m not sure if it was the first time I heard of the Sound, I think not (I"ve had heard Winning on another independent rádio) but I was caught by their song Barria Alta, from their last album, which results from their/ his Experience on that Lisbon old borrough, after they played there, at the Rock Rendez Vouz venue. I recorded that show, still have it, and, for me, I like their last album as much I do this one. "The Sound? Don't know anything about them, let's hear it" But , as you see, they are a cult Band, JP. Thanks you for the music, those who did it and those who share its passions.
This album is really good from start to finish, but I can't help preferring the versions of "Winning", "Sense of Purpose", "Skeletons", "Judgement" and "Silent Air" on their live album In The Hothouse, which have much more bite. By comparison, everything seems a bit stodgy here. Justin, try listening to the aforementioned tracks on the In The Hothouse live album and you'll hear the stark difference between these more laid-back studio versions. The Sound was a completely different animal live!😉 Also from 1981, I'd love you to do a full album reaction to The Opposition's debut album Breaking the Silence. This post-punk/new wave band was even more confidential than The Sound, and unfortunately still is.
@@gianlucabusan6185 Intimacy is also excellent (although "Sand and Glue" doesn't seem essential to me), and Promises isn't far behind either (but I've never liked "Small Talk"), but I find Breaking the Silence a notch above (perhaps because I knew the band with this one when it was released). In any case, Justin should give this unjustly neglected band a try, so that others can discover them too!😉
@@gianlucabusan6185 I saw them live on the Intimacy tour in March 83 and also on the Empire Days tour in November 85. The 1983 concert is still one of my favourite concerts I've ever seen! Great band.
@@paulcollins5586 Yes, The Comsat Angels were an interesting band (especially their first three albums because I've always found Land and 7 Day Weekend pretty bad).
Got a jump on this one. Ultimately I found this too ordinary, lacking in originality. It just seems too derivative, and while not the worst thing I've heard, there's nothing to make it stand out, differ from the herd. And certainly not enough to make me want to revisit it. At times morose, at others jangly, it's low on breaks, and has little, to no personaity of its own. Hard to get past the Joy Division comparition, but I'm also picking up The Cure at times... No, heard it all before, not for me.
@@pentagrammaton6793 Pardon! how can you judge an album if you don't listen to the whole thing. Even on odd occasions, a bad band will make/have one good tune, and I wouldn't want to miss it. But that said, maybe I haven't heard the whole thing, from some talk here. That, or maybe JP's got a different version/later rerelease. I'm reading in some comments of a 'hidden track'... I have to admit, I've not watched this vid, and listened to the album yesterday morn. So now I'll have to check out this 'Hot house' tune i'm reading of... it never ends eh :)
@@jfergs.3302 Try listening to their 1985 live album In The Hothouse instead, which is much more invigorating. The few tracks taken from From the Lions Mouth (and the 1982 non-album single "Hot House") are much more convincing in these live versions. You'll see the difference!😉
@@paulcollins5586 No doubt Adrian Borland's vocals are average on this one, but it's much livelier in this context. I've always found the studio version static and boring by comparison.
I DON’T BELIEVE IT! Quite honestly my all-time favorite post-punk album by my personal favorite post-punk band! Seriously thank you for reacting!!
Glad you enjoyed Sam! :D

I hadn't heard many songs by The Sound until seeing you react. But now I see who The Mission was inspired by for their sound.
Please do the Rachmaninoff piano concertos in the future 🙏
Skeletons was my cell ring tone for a long period

Love The Opposition. I prefere Intimacy and Promises over Breaking the Silence.

Unfortunately i never see them live. As far as i know they never made tour near to me here in Italy.
The hidden track is Hot House
👍Yep! "Hot House" was a non-album single in May 1982.
Saw them live mamy times. Unforgettable.
Thanks for this album reaction JP. 👍👍
Happy to Ray- ty for watching
Great band . R.I.P. Adrian Borland
Some songs here (like Contact the Fact) are obviously inspired by krautrock, especially Neu!
Its ok but the chameleons do postpunk better.
Personally, I never got hooked on the Chameleons, then or now. I was more into The Sound, The Comsat Angels and The Opposition.
