Yeah the Shrek one was my favorite, normally he’d be cracking a smile but if you hover over the delete choice he’d be mad at you.

In MGS3 the Save Icon is White Flowers with a Gun. After you beat on European Extreme and get the Big Boss ranking it changes to Red.

@@AkiraZack15 all 3 dmc games on ps2 have animated models that have a "sad" pose if you try to delete them. I don't remember much of DMC1 and 2 but i remember that the original DMC3 model was lady sitting on her rocket launcher and she would cry if you try to delete and the special edition had a chibi Jester, who also cries.

I used to check out the different animations all the time back in the day. my favorite one was the delete animation for Full Metal Alchemist 2, which the icon was of Black Hayate, in which the delete animation was actually an easteregg itself from the manga, where he will be standing in surrender (which was a scene in one of the little comics at the end)
I honestly miss these... They should bring them back. Will allow me to give more value to the game I'm playing.

I remember years ago I had a PlayStation 2 game called Mr. mosquito. When you try to delete the game’s save file the mosquito avatar would start to cry.

@@carjay7 Well, I couldn't go through with the copying as my only other memory card has Fortuna on it which kills my PS2 SCPH30k so no dice.
The deleting animation though is the upside down hanging zombie head save icon going off into the distance with those Japanese card things falling down and such.
Some games that do change animation when deleting somehow don't have copy animations like ape escape 2 or simpsons road rage
I remember feeling sad about deleting some save files so i could create a new save file for Crash Tag Team Racing.
Unlocked a memory for me. I remember as a kid when my card was full and I had to delete stuff, I’d spend hours checking out all the different animations and seeing what they’d do with certain actions. Simpler times

This brings me back so much nostalgic memories,every time I see the memory card of an old PS2 console. Each game has its own logo and idle animation. Especially when each game had its own animation weather you delete a game. Even I feel bad every time you delete a game. It’s like taking a life. I just wish they bring this back.

Ahh Tekken Tag. I remember this when I was around 10 or so, watching the same Xiaoyu animations for the save files between copy and delete. Good times.
I always loved the Save Data icons. Felt like I was making a trophy collection based on how many PS2 games I had. I know it's a dead horse at this point but modern consoles really do lack the "personality" the older ones had.

I remember this mostly being a thing with the early games, showing off the new fun stuff they could do. Later games would just have the static 3D model or just a 3D billboard of the cover art.

The Klonoa 2 save icon shows a Moo (one of the common enemies). If you click Delete, the Moo inflates as if it's being attacked by Klonoa
And for Okage Shadow King, the character begs you to not delete the save lol
Yup! Always knew about them and enjoyed the ones that had animations when trying to delete or making the confirmation. Wish they had brought that over to future consoles.
Whoever don't know about this and have a PS2. That means their Memory Card is 1TB storage cuz they never need to copy/delete any file.
Or they only play a handful of games.

Thank you for this short. It doesn't have anything to do with the easter egg but I haven't used a PS2 in years and forgot about the memory card menu. Remembering about the game icons they showed for each game saved. It might not be much but it made me miss the console even more.
I had a few of these games, The one I remember the most was the Sims 2 because when you tried to delete it turned the green gem into a gravestone

I remember having quite a few games with these animations:
For the Simpsons Road Rage, the icon turns into Blinky;
All versions of The Sims 2 have the icon turn into a gravestone;
Lastly, Wacky Races starring Dastardly and Muttley (what a name) had the titular character play a running animation.

Knew this waaaaay back then. Used to go onto my memory card every time i got a new game to see if there were any cool animations for copy or delete.
I remember listening to developer commentary talking about how about 80 percent of the work they did making games was just trying to get the first pixel to appear on screen. Then about 20 percent was actually making the game. That's why there's so much more emphasis now on game engines which do a lot or that work for you.
Imagine that but for San Andreas where as you try to copy mini CJ will get some cool shades, but if you try to delete little CJ starts crying.
My favorite is Resident Evil Outbreak. The save icon is an open door with a bunch of zombie arms sticking out, when you select delete it closes the door on them

The sims on the ps2 took advantage of this feature alot. I remembered that sims 2 pet animation where instead of the sims 2 pets logo, itll be a tombstone if you choose the delete option
the sims save file animation change was DARK
when you go to delete the save the animation changes to a gravestone so its saying if you delete the save you are killing your sim. when i first saw this back then (since sims save files were storage hogs) it really freaked me out

It is a cool feature. The save file changes were pretty cool. I didn't think of it as an Easter egg just something they put in for a few games that were worth it.
I remember for the sims 2, if you tried to delete it instead of the iconic green floating gem, it changes into a grave with a flower and the gem floating above it
I was going to say that I knew this, because I always looked forward to seeing what the icon would be when I got a new game and seeing what they would do when you go to delete them. I didn't know however, that they also had an animation for when you copy them, so now I've got to go through all my old save files and see what happens when I press copy!
Smugglers Run 2 HostileTerritory has one, where there's normally the buggy from the game idling, but if you try to delete the file, it shows an animation of the buggy falling front-end first on the ground and getting destroyed.
The first Midnight Club has a car. If you try to delete it, it has a seizure 😂
