- Hi!!! This video is a bit different than my normal videos as I am not on one of my usual an epic adventures. I am currently in.....a....house. I wanted to get this video out as it pertains to August and we are now in September. In this video I go over what I spent in August on the road as well as July. I also go into what I've made on RUclips so far!!

Very informative great breakdown, yeah if we have to pay taxes on earnings on RUclips we should be able to claim cost to make videos , your gas for example, and your drone ect. Have a great week my friend
Check with a tax accountant. You might be able to declare some things on your taxes since this is now your job! You do a great job editing and filming! Have fun be safe!
The growth on RUclips is usually exponential, if you keep at it. Once the ball get rolling, and it kinda has, things will get much better and much quicker and not only will you be able to make more than you spend but will probably make up the difference in no time, especially when some sponsors roll in.
About 1-1/2 to 2 years ago I started watching Kenny of All Trades videos. He had about the same number of subscribers as you have now. I was one of the first to donate to his channel, now he has almost 60k subscribers! Keep it up, you’ll do well. Wish you had a “Thanks” button so people could donate. Hang in there Sydnie!

This is a great option to save money and travel the country! People can definitely lower their expenses once the you have a paid for car the you have basically eliminated housing cost. The money saved can be invested or used to pay down debts.

As a whole taxes suck. I do applaud your transparency in the manner. I dont know how long you planned on doing the youtubes, but I enjoy your episodes. At that rate you may not make enough money to pay any taxes this year. You might be able to deduct your gas and drone as a business expense too. Wow my F150 power-boost gets better gas mileage than that. I found your channel when you went through Baker City, Oregon my home town and RUclips suggested your videos.

Well, your subscribership seems to be climbing steadily. You should do colabs with other content providers like Sarah Berkowitz. You and she were basically shadowing each other around the northwest for a few weeks, and it would have been cool to see you two meet up for a couple of videos. It really helps boost viewership for both when that happens. And you two are about the same age, I believe. Anyway, I've been with you from the start, and I enjoy every video! I've driven through Unicoi so many times!! And I've seen some of her videos too. I noticed we kept traveling in the same area too-- same with Emma and Bus Bus.
Wow - really appreciate you being so open and informative about this... $1k to $1.5k a month is VERY simple. Especially in today's inflated environment. So don't beat yourself up with the spending. With the taxable earnings, at the Federal level with what you make, the tax rate bracket for that right now is at the minimum. 10% or so. Then there's your state tax rate. I'm not a professional tax accountant, but it feels 35% withholding seems pretty high. If things hold steady through the year, I would project that you get a refund. Best wishes to you always.
You seem to be growing in subscribers decently quick. As you grow and get more views you'll be making more money from RUclips and that growth tends to be exponential as RUclips recommends your videos to more people. That will help you keep your goal of two years even if you can't get expenses below $1000 a month.
You have a two year plan, so, you're going to be fine. 🙂
That's my "success formula" for small businesses, have a person dedicated to toughing it out for two years to develop the right clientele. That gives enough time for "your people" to find you and subscribe. Be the snowball not the rolling stone, but you already talked about realizing that. ;-)

That was interesting - yes we are all being taxed to death.
Keep all receipts and let a book keeper do the work because making it more of a business gets you write offs for what you spend in doing your job ( why you see filming meals)
I know where you are, roughly, according to your map. Sadly, you didn't take my suggestion on Pony Express Museum but maybe you can do that another time. I hope you enjoy the time in the Ozarks and wondered if you would visit Mark Twain National Forest. It is a beautiful area and rather large so if you are there, I wonder what areas you are exploring. BTW, you drove just south of where I live since I'm east of Kansas City, Missouri. I'm looking forward to the next few videos especially if you did stop in KCMO or one of the suburbs of it.
As for the Q and A video, I was wondering if you would ever do one of those. I admire you for doing all of this from your savings. Many channels has Paetron, membership options, merchandise, and other means to make additional money.

I am very fortunate that I get about $1500 from a military medical retirement but I still struggle to spend less than a $1000 with van life. I feel like my POS van is constantly breaking something though. I also drive a lot less than you but I think a lot of my money is spent on still building out my van here and there. Anyway, super curious to dive deeper into your channel to see how you spend your money and hopefully I can copy some things to lower my monthly costs.
It is always something!!! Every month I've had an unexpected cost around $200. I've spent way more money than I thought I would so far :/
@@sydniestateofmind I am in an old van (2006) that I kind of got scammed on so I am dealing with that with just the van itself not including “life” surprise expenses. I made a plan to start a diet and to start food prepping on my birthday (Sep 20th) to cut down on costs to help with my monthly budget. Anyway, enough of my biography… looking forward to more videos!
Best to pay them taxes or the tax man will visit in the form of an IRS audit, No Fun! That is not a bad figure for a month living out of your vehicle and 1800 plus miles / $480.00 bucks in fuel not bad. Thanks for Sharing Sydnie take care happy trails.
You don't need to pay that kind of money in taxes - talk to someone (I'm not a tax expert, but...)- because you can treat RUclips as a business and can write off most of what you said were your expenses. Just need to start treating your RUclips income like a professional and get a business license in your home state. Have fun in your adventures.
