I actually get put off if a fantasy book is too fast-paced lmao, I like to slowly meander through the world a little, get to know everything

I've said it before but I can't say it enough... I really enjoy your companion made videos, your DNFs, reviews and all the varied content topics you release. And the frequency of your content. I kind of think of you as the MTV news of BookTube 🤣🤣😃😉👏👏👏😍
And I often get great perspectives from your discussions and deep dives. I also love how many recs you've turned me on to.
You're top shelf, Elle .... Thanks so much for sharing and doing what you do, because I'm sure the filming and editing alone are very time consuming. ❤️

I Love Mercedes Lackey. My fav series so far is the Oathblood series. The relationship between Kethry and Tarma is what I liked the most.

I recommend the Steelflower series by Lilith Saintcrow! It’s an adult fantasy series that features a female sword-and- sorcery style lead as she tries to navigate a big twist in her life. I enjoyed the slower pacing of the first book and think it helped create a very immersive world and characters.

Thank you Elle for the work you do. Your first recommend I acted on was The Witch's Heart and it is still one of my favorite reads of the year and also inspired me to start my Bookstagram. Genevieve is now an auto-buy author for me after reading The Weaver and The Witch Queen. I could not have started my journey into reading fantasy without your great recommendations since our tastes seem to align!

As a new author, I find this kind of commentary very influential. Thanks to your commentary I was able to finish my ebook. I wasn't sure where to go, but you mentioning what the audience actually wants helped me greatly. Thank you!

I’m so excited to finally getting around to reading The Weaver and The Witch Queen this winter. I recommend The Witch’s Heart to EVERYONE but I understand that the slow pace in the beginning and writing style isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Motherhood was also a huge theme in it and I don’t see many people mention that too often.

That video could not have any worse timing it did. For 2024, I already planned to do a wheel of time re-read and and to dive deeper into the Cosmere as well as to read Modesitt's Recluse saga and more of Guy Gavriel Kay's stuff , and now you just found at least three other rabbit holes for me to lose myself into. Anthony Ryan is one of my favorite authors these day, but there's still a substantial amount of books I need to read and also want to read the raven's shadow trilogy as well as draconis memoria. I also have read the Farseer trilogy a few years ago and you reminded me that I always wanted to read her other stuff as well. And last but not least, Mercedes Lackey might as well be my discovery of 24; I might have read one or two of her early books back in the day, but if I did , I can't remember at all. I just know that she's one of the big names I always wanted to dive into, but seeing how much she has written in the meantime makes this a quite terrifying prospect.
I really need to find a way to just add your videos to my goodreads tbr list. :D

She has so much there is bound to be something for any one and any taste. I absolutely loved the Serrated Edge Series, urban fantasy before it really was a thing. Definitely a different vibe than Valdemar. Got cozy romance with her hundred kingdoms stuff. Steampunk urban fantasy with the Fire Rose/elemental series.

I´d be interested what you think of "Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn" by Tad Williams, which in my opinion fit the "slow-paced adult fantasy"- genre quiet well too. And also because now about 30 years after they were written, the threads of the story, which also has progressed about 30 years, are picked up again in the authors "The Last King of Osten Ard" cycle.

One of the slowest series I've ever read but one that I think was worth it was Otherland by Tad Williams. I haven't read anything else written by Williams but apparently, all his books are like that

For me the whole Rook & Rose Trilogy (Mask of Mirrors, Liar's Knot, Labyrith's Heart) by M.A. Carrick fits this descritpion very well. Every book in the trilogy is extremely slowpaced because the focus is not the magic or some big threat that needs to be dealt with but instead it is all about the politics and character relationships. The whole trilogy takes place in only one city and over three books I learned loving the world and especially the characters and their different kind of relationships. But again, all this is only possible because of the slow pacing. Even the end of each book doesn't have some big explosion of pacing. And I love this trilogy for it.

Kaikeyi is often shown as a villan in the epic Ramayan in India, I'm glad the author shows her perspective in her novel. Women are often demonised for their progressiveness and I think its time we re-evaluate some ideas.
