When we do these lists in 10 years time, Vardy will be on there. 11 games in a row, dragging Leicester to win the league against 5000/1 odds. Maybe not the most technical, but I think the group seriously underrated his achievements. Maybe not as high as 6, but definitely 10th. Put Vardy in Man United or Chelsea in 2016/17 and he pulls 30 a season every season.
This is what I hate. I'd probably put Vardy in my top 10 at the end of his career but you just can't speculate about what he could've done if he'd played for a different club. Some players play better in teams with better players around them. Some play worse with the added pressure. Some look better in worse teams. Some are worse because they get less service. Just to help Rory out a bit with justifying Rooney over Henry; he is the only player in the prem to have over 200 goals AND over 100 assists. That is honestly supreme as a feat. Not saying he's clear of Henry, but I'd entertain the argument.
@@Lmikejagger He did peak early but that's not really an applicable argument here because the amount of time he spent at his peak is still longer than most players they discussed simply because he was elite at such a young age. The argument is better if you're comparing him to players that have been elite for 15+ years, which are only a handful of players in history. Some of the all time greats had relatively short peaks. Zidane arguably didn't become world class until he was 25/26, Ronaldinho's peak was like 6 years etc. By comparison, Rooney was elite for a good 11 years. Henry was also elite for about 10 years.
@@jammyjam123 I know, I'm mostly playing devil's advocate. Rooney also contributed to 5 title's compared to Henry's 2. I think there is enough to justify Rooney's selection, I just don't think Rory did a good job of making the argument.

Michael Owen would easily be on this list over Suarez or Vardy (Maybe Kane too). Probably not over Suarez for career but certainly over him for EPL Would be the only one on this list with a golden ball at home.

After hearing the top-10 striker debate numerous times over the years from various sources, I've come to the conclusion that you need to be a Chelsea fan to really appreciate Drogba as an elite striker.
@@1FORIMPERIUM 0.41 goals per game in the premier league isn't "elite". 9 goals in 9 finals, however, is. So in that sense, when Chelsea fans talk about Drogba being the ultimate big game player I have to agree - Hence my point. Maybe the issue stems from the fact that rival fans will point to his goals-per-game ratio when discussing all-time best PL strikers and Chelsea fans will point to his finals record and overall positive effect on the dressing room and club culture. Perhaps Drogba was only a GOOD striker, but an ELITE character who personified the winning culture Chelsea began building the same time he joined them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
if your argument is goals, drogba was not a stay in the box stiker, did not take penalties and every season went to CAN 1 month, so only by that you can add 10 goals to every season he has played, but even besides that, you gotta understant football to know how crucial, genius and important he was
50:35 Aguero.. #2 all time scorer (his brace in his final PL appearance tied, then moved him past Rooney into 2nd place), most goals for a single club, most goals by a foreign born player, most hat tricks in premier league history, tied the record most goals in a single match, and that 93:20 title winner in 11-12 changed the destiny of that club forever as it marked the beginner of City's dynasty. The significance of that goal in both Man City's and the Premier League's history... far more important the Drogba header. not even close.
People underrate him as a footballer too, he wasn’t just a finisher. In his prime he could’ve easily played as a midfielder with his pace and tiki taka style. Remember in a game Liverpool were cruising 3-0 vs city him picking up the ball from deep and driving at our defence scoring a screamer and the game finished 3-2, people don’t seem to credit him as a footballer at all. My 3rd most feared player in pl history after ronaldo and hazard
Do you mean in one campaign or all comps? If you're just talking about domestic Premiership goals then, Andy Cole & Alan Shearer's 34 goals in a single league season begs to differ. Insanity!
Andy Cole was also a very intelligent player.. Great link up play.. He did miss chances.. Becks & Giggs were firing them in the box across that period.
Rory sees the game so well and is such a great analyst and incorporates history tremendously. But he really dropped the ball in this one in having Aguero 8th and trying to defend having Rooney second over Henry🤕. As a Chelsea supporter myself, I how they would kill us but they were extremely elite
1 Henry 2 Shearer - did as much and more without the supporting cast that everyone else had 3 Aguero 4 Rooney 5 Cole 6Wright 7 Van nistelrooy 8 Bergkamp - more talent than most but .. not a pure Striker 9 Cantona 10 Drogba
Doesn’t Vardy hold the record for goals in consecutive games although I think 6th is a bit high I’d have to agree that he could be debated at about 9th or 10th
Is this : Best player in the striker position ? Best goal scorer ? Player with the most goals ? Player with most trophies ? It sure doesn't seem like it's a combination of these, but none fit on their own either !
Jari Litmanen was the next Bergamp at Ajax. Actually Ajax started to win Erediviese titles and went 2 times in a row to Champions League final and won one of them after Litmanen took Bergamp starting spot after he left Ajax. Sadly Litmanen was made of glass and his career at the top was short.
Another player that was pure class whose career was sadly cut short was Luc Nilis. He is on a par from a technical standpoint to Bergkamp. That Bergkamp goal vs Newcastle, there is a clip of Luc Nilis scoring an identical goal and I believe before Bergkamp scored his.

As a United fan, I'd take Henry, Shearer over Wazza as a better striker. But I will absolutely not take any other answer than Wayne Rooney for the best ever premier league player.
the opposite is the popular opinion, and for a good reason. shearer and aguero better strikers than henry, but he’s the greatest player to grace the prem
Nah Rooney has the 2nd most goal in epl history and 3rd most assists in epl history. They talk about some strikers being lethal and some being unselfish and helping the team. Throughout his career, Rooney has taken both roles and excelled in them. He has more assists than Lampard, Gerrard, Silva, Bergkamp and Beckham. That’s madness. Even though Henry could do both and his football was beautiful to watch, there’s no way you deny Rooney wasn’t in his own universe.
I love the discussions and debates soo much but if we're adding strikers on metrics other than sheer numbers i.e. Drogba and Bergkamp, then I see no reason why Cantona doesn't make the top 10. 5 League titles in 6 years (p.s 1 was with Leeds). Won United their first league title in 26 years. Might as well throw in this crazy stat whilst I'm at it but he won the league with Marseille in '91, won with Leeds in '92 and then moved halfway through the '93 season and took United from 8th to 1st.

@@blackerscreenproductions1368 Bergkamp should be on this list because Bergkamp is an elite striker. Being a striker is more than just goals. Bergkamp was one of the most technically gifted players of his generation. He was already 10 years into his career by the time he moved to Arsenal and was instrumental in Arsenal winning the league multiple times. He scored roughly every two and a half matches for Arsenal when he was in the back end of his career. To say he wasn't an elite goal is delusional. And just for the record, I am not an Arsenal fan, I'm a Liverpool fan.
I was going to write something similar but couldn't be bothered with the explanations but....since you said it...I agree. Bergkamp and Sheringham played as no 9s in their early careers but are probably best known now as supporting forwards. Other names are out and out no 9s (Shearer, Cole, etc). Some others could play either role fairly equally (Suarez, Cantona, etc). It's difficult to have all in the one list and probably easier to ask who have been the best no 9s and who have been the best no 10s. It's also difficult because are we asking which strikers were the best to play in the Premier League or which strikers played their best in the Premier League? These are different things. Also...how to account for longevity? Davor Suker was a class striker, but not in England. Ditto Shevchenko. Ibrahimovic was a class striker, but the vast majority of his career was outside England.

I don’t like this “they haven’t won a league” talk, the league is a team award, There are players WAY worse than Harry Kane that have won leagues, that isn’t a barometer of personal ability
I get your point, but i don't think that's what people mean when trophies are brought into the conversation. I think it's when you struggle to decide between players of a similar standard then the next metric you use is trophies.
That's true, but Harry kane is nowhere near top 10. He's a great player, bordering world class - but the definition of an all time PL great is that they should have a great goalscoring record along with trophies that came because of those goals. Kane's goals have nowhere ever led to that.
@@telmolicious I think it helps In an argument because at the end of the day it's something to show for a good players ability (ik its a team trophy). Just to help Rory out a bit with justifying Rooney over Henry; he is the only player in the prem to have over 200 goals AND over 100 assists. That is honestly supreme as a feat. Not saying he's clear of Henry, but I'd entertain the argument.
He just reached his peak too young, Henry was a different breed though
@@Lmikejagger He did peak early but that's not really an applicable argument here because the amount of time he spent at his peak is still longer than most players they discussed simply because he was elite at such a young age. The argument is better if you're comparing him to players that have been elite for 15+ years, which are only a handful of players in history. Some of the all time greats had relatively short peaks. Zidane arguably didn't become world class until he was 25/26, Ronaldinho's peak was like 6 years etc. By comparison, Rooney was elite for a good 11 years. Henry was also elite for about 10 years.
Rooney played Moore than 200 games more than Henry though
@@jammyjam123 I know, I'm mostly playing devil's advocate. Rooney also contributed to 5 title's compared to Henry's 2. I think there is enough to justify Rooney's selection, I just don't think Rory did a good job of making the argument.

4. Bergkamp
5. Rooney
6. Cole
7. Kane
8. Drogba
9. Suarez
10. RVN
Suarez shouldn’t be in the list and bergksamp was great but too high cos he didn’t score near enough to be fourth best striker of all time
If Bergkamp travelled to more European away games we might have won a CL
Michael Owen would easily be on this list over Suarez or Vardy (Maybe Kane too). Probably not over Suarez for career but certainly over him for EPL Would be the only one on this list with a golden ball at home.
In no order mine are:
Henry, shearer, drogba, suarez, cantona, kane, aguero, Rooney, Wright, Van persie,
Andy cole??
Jokeman
The King, Shearer, Aguero, Rooney, Bergkamp, Cole, Ruud, Drogba, Suarez, Cantona. Can't believe Rory didn't have a combo of Henry/ Shearer for 1&2 lol
What a vid but the contradictions are hilarious🤣 Rory - “if you score the goals that take your team to the title, I’ll probably put you on my list” but laughs at Vardy being in someone else’s top 10🤔🤷🏽♂️🤣

After hearing the top-10 striker debate numerous times over the years from various sources, I've come to the conclusion that you need to be a Chelsea fan to really appreciate Drogba as an elite striker.
Not true , Drogba was prem best striker behind Henry , you’re a clueless football fan to disagree
I would say he is 10th because he was a part of the Chelsea transformation
if your argument is goals, drogba was not a stay in the box stiker, did not take penalties and every season went to CAN 1 month, so only by that you can add 10 goals to every season he has played, but even besides that, you gotta understant football to know how crucial, genius and important he was
I always thought Rory was knowledgeable regarding football but not anymore haha. Aguero in 8th position????.
Couldn't agree more
Rory is such a vibe imo
Loves the sound of his own voice
These guys are unable to put aside their personal biases to make such a list.
Some of their reasoning is actually insane 🤣
50:35 Aguero.. #2 all time scorer (his brace in his final PL appearance tied, then moved him past Rooney into 2nd place), most goals for a single club, most goals by a foreign born player, most hat tricks in premier league history, tied the record most goals in a single match, and that 93:20 title winner in 11-12 changed the destiny of that club forever as it marked the beginner of City's dynasty. The significance of that goal in both Man City's and the Premier League's history... far more important the Drogba header. not even close.
Best mins/goal ratio out of everyone in the list as well
People underrate him as a footballer too, he wasn’t just a finisher.
Salah Holds the record for Most Goals In A Single Season. Madness.
If he continues this form he’s the undisputed greatest pre-K winger of all time
If he played for Man Utd he would be lorded as the greatest thing on the planet.
Do you mean in one campaign or all comps? If you're just talking about domestic Premiership goals then, Andy Cole & Alan Shearer's 34 goals in a single league season begs to differ. Insanity!
The fact that they left RVP off the top ten is criminal

Andy Cole was also a very intelligent player.. Great link up play.. He did miss chances.. Becks & Giggs were firing them in the box across that period.

Definitely have to carry this on and do goalkeepers, defenders & managers. Great video
Henry, shearer, aguero, sherringham, Bergkamp, Owen, Drogba, Andy Cole, Cantona, ruud

That's true, but Harry kane is nowhere near top 10. He's a great player, bordering world class - but the definition of an all time PL great is that they should have a great goalscoring record along with trophies that came because of those goals. Kane's goals have nowhere ever led to that.
