    We call them rafter ties. That's what my dad who was a carpenter and a general contractor called them, when I was growing up.

      According to the carpenter's I watch on RUclips they all call them rafter ties. Bcuz they tie the left rafter to the right rafter.

    I did the class with them during the Homesteaders of America conference. make sure you have your refrigeration for the carcass in line, we made it through the class but an unexpected situation occurred, which with the 2-day pause in the class for the conference, meant we had an essentially frozen carcass to try to process, doable, but more difficult.

    You are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO fortunate that Meg is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO supportive of everything you do!!! She is every man's dream! Always backing you up with her enthusiastic, supportive, positive comments... cheering you on... loving you... just the love in her eyes when she looks at you is amazing!!!! You are truly very, very, very fortunate to have Meg on your team. And the boys.... WOW! What a help they are... so peaceful and calm and barefoot and free to be who they are. And of course... little Lilly flower... blossoming into a beautiful little human being!

    Loved seeing the boys in plaid shirts & toolbelts. You have your own work crew! It's great to see you setting them up for success in their future for independence. I can see how much fun you are having with this project. It's good you had a nice long break after the epic house build, LOL! Awesome things coming out of the kitchen, but I hope Meg gets some time out of there. The cooking plus the soaps is a lot of time in the kitchen. Won't be long before you will be planting. Look forward to your videos on the class.

    I enjoy immensely watching your progress and how little by little you’re achieving your goals and just plain enjoying everyday life. I love what you two do, but what I enjoy the most is popping “helping elf’s” (your children) in every video, such fun to watch how they help… cooking, cleaning, babysitting, building, gardening, harvesting… those boy can do it all!     Glad to see you guys back missed y'all. Don't you guys have a hillside you could dig out to make a root cellar? If you dug it out like a cave and shored it up you would have the same temperature year-round. Ben you're a smart man and Megan a smart woman. You could think it through and put you a door on it. And have your own storage cooler. Just a thought!!! Y'all take care stay safe and God bless y'all

      🤔put up cement cellar elements by the hillside and then bulldoze the hilltop onto that....
      My aunt and uncle upgraded their old leaky cellar to elements: they first saved the flowers on top, then removed dirt, removed old cellar structure, put the elements in, dirt back on top, planted old&new flowers.
      I'm not an expert on cellar building by any means😆

    Yum homemade sausages. Remember doing our pigs, smoking and curing the meat, but never did sausage links, breakfast sausage yes. Nice job on the lights and clean up. So nice to have the boys help, not to mention the are growing like weeds. Can't wait for the specialized pork meat video. Blessings to all. 😊🇱🇷

    Just a heads up, those are not ladybugs but rather "Asian Lady Beetles". They are highly invasive, and they bite (not like a bee sting but still).

      That was my thought when I saw how clustered they were. They'll do that in a house if they can get inside during the fall/winter.

    Watching you guys makes me wish my ex & I would have been more aligned and he would have valued the marriage/family enough to tuff out the hard part (I had serious accident, tree fell onto my car as I driving) and work through the rough stuff. Good Job Hollar family🥰

    Sir, the amount of enthusiasm you had for the brightness of those lights was infectious! 😂🤣 Then you got the whole family involved and they we're just as excited!     I remember working in my parents’ barn long ago before we upgraded the lighting, and how utterly depressing it was, like working in a cave. What a huge difference it made when I finally got around to replacing all the light fixtures with new ones that actually worked!
    I learned that you can tolerate working in cold temps longer if you simply have ample, quality lighting, and some good music to listen to. 🤠
    Good job improving that space! You’ll love working up there now, and it’ll be awesome for classes! (Cause I’m sure this is just the first of many to come) 😉🙌

    Phew a lot of hard work, but sure has paid off!! that sausage looks awesome, as kids we got a cow and a pig every year and part of it was making farmer's sausage with beef and pork and we used to cut tiny pork fat cubes to add to the mix. Kids helped as well and the rewards were plentiful

    Can you put the sweet potatoes deep into the soil where you want to grow and see if they will grow in Spring? Maybe a few to see if it would work?

    I love seeing how you interact as a couple. Each of you works hard to make the other happy and each of you celebrates and is openly grateful for what the other accomplishes. I wonder how often people complain that their spouse is lazy, but don’t realize that their own lack of appreciation is a big part of it. Why do anything but the minimum if no one cares?

    That space is going to be fantastic for a woodshop! You found something the boys look to really enjoy doing, it will be a great way to spend time teaching them how to use all the tools and what to do with them lol. Those bugs look to be those asian beetles that bite instead of ladybugs. Good that you cleaned them out, they will tear up your garden plants. Great job, can't wait to see you building more stuff in your lighted space!

    I just love it that the young men/boys have their own tool belts….after all, they are working their hardest, too. When you speeded it up, I couldn’t always tell you from your sons, they are getting so tall. And what a cook mom is…you lucky guys!

    OMG. If that was Meg 1st time making sausage she did AWESOME JOB! We do a summer sausage with the venison.every year! It is work. Great job on the barn lighting too. Love how everyone gets involved ❤️

    Wow! You have been busy. For sausage making, we found that leaving a bit of the casing empty at the start helps to prevent blowouts as you're twisting them to length. It gives the meat a bit of room to move. It looks delicious!! Enjoy.
