I'm not surprised in the slightest. People seriously underestimate just how ENORMOUS Kadokawa really is, Sony included.
Look it it this way: most corporations are the top of the heap in one field: software, electronics, animation, TV production, comic production, book publishing, traditional print media (which is still pretty strong within Japan), music etc. Kadokawa are at the top in ALL these fields within Japan, and for such a small country that's been enduring economic downturn for decades now they are still a massive market. They are a proper old school Zaibatsu in all but name.

I still haven't forgotten what Sony did to EQ and SWG, and how they treated their customers. This company needs to be kept as far away from FromSoft as possible.
Sony truly began the modern trend of treating their customers - who had elevated them to the status of #1 in the MMO market - as cash cows to be derided and ignored.
I had read Kadakowa approached Sony Japan, since the Korean company was buying shares and a fast rate and wished to remain a Japanese company. I wish for FromSoft to remain free to control their own direction making games. Cute puppies btw!
How are they free when kadokawa owns them tencent own them an sony owns them too?
@@godssalvation87 Free in the sense that neither of those entities is telling them how to make games, what kind of games to make or is trying to turn their work into Live Service MTX infested garbage. Whereas Sony will _absolutely_ try to steer them in that direction.

Regarding pet pictures, I have so many cat pictures on my phone that I no longer have enough memory to back up my phone.
And I prioritize cat photos over backing up my phone.
Interesting, as the scuttlebut was that Sony _wanted_ all the other IP and that doing this just for From was Tinfoil Hat thinking. In any event the company that won't even give us a Bloodborne Remaster/PC port can stay far, far away from Our beloved Soulsborne/Mecha game crafters.
The problem with Sony is that they are Sony, back catalogue a couple decades long and they want to pretend they have no IP. Instead of making new successes they want to buy successful IPs, ask Bob Iger how that one is going.
dude kadokawa want to be bought...sony and kadokawa have been in talks for years but nothing materialized because sony want pieces of kadokawa not the entire thing...now that companies like tencent and other foreign conglomerates want to obtain them they run to sony to be acquired which explains why they want the entire company to be absorbed by sony
I heard somewhere, can't recall where, that part of the reason for this move by Sony Japan is that they are not happy with Sony America. Sony Japan wants to get back to being more of a Japanese brand, given the failures of the games since they moved their gaming division to the USA. I don't know if that's true, but if it is, this might not be the end of the world. That said, this really seems like "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" territory. I don't see how this could improve things, especially when it comes to FromSoftware, but it could be really bad. Maybe. Best bet is to leave it alone!
There is a difference between Sony Japan and Sony America, not that I think this merger should happen.
I get that Sony Japan really wants to get back to being a Japan centric company, especially after all the DEI/BRIDGE flops from Sony California, but none of that is going to work out without Sony Japan puting their foot down and reminding Sony California (Naughty Dog) whose supposed to be in charge.
I don't think it will be good, but only because DEI/BRIDGE

if it happens i hope that miyazakai just leaves and creates a new studio....and makes a new game....with a slightly different name XD
didn't sony already send a letter of intent to acquire to kadokawa? seems like it's in the final stages to me...they even said to expect the news to drop in a couple of weeks so price of sale might already be set

Let’s keep in mind Sony Japan is a different beast to Sony America. Japan is nowhere near as woke. Japan Sony’s problem is they don’t flex their muscles enough over Sony America. That may change considering all the flops from Sony USA.

People cry wanting another bloodborne, cry about from software being independent when kadokawa owns majority, tencent owns 16% an sony already owns 14% an yall rather instead of thinking about what the kadokawa value an how they feel about kakoa aggressivesly trying to take over them an understanding that they trying to stay japanese own an so to respect there wishes they choose to be sony japan own.
