    Another fun video Rick. The zoom helped your editing process no doubt (lots of water to edit out). Perhaps because of the zoom its the clearest video I've seen in regards to moving the back foot to turn a SUP. Waves looked great too!

      As bummed as I was about it missing all the waves... I really liked the way it made everything more interesting.

      If you want to go smaller I recommend quobba fins, evin if for just training. Its like magnets for your board. They are about 4.6" thruster set and very thick base, they have almost no release but lots of drive. Paddling is super easy.

    Rick my man, you look good on that board!!!! 🤙🏽 Was it me or do you think you had a little more speed than usual? It looks like the board floated you well, as the deck didn't go below the surface!

    • @rickweeks
      @rickweeks  2 года назад

      Hi Brian, thank you!
      I think the camera is so zoomed in that the speed is more apparent than in my normal wider field of view.
      I was quite happy with the float and stability... basically the smallest overall board I have ever surfed, and it was pretty easy!
      My "Guild Factor" on this board is 2.2, so at my feet, its floating just level with the surface.

    Rick, do you find much of a difference between the 8’10” (what I ride) and the 8’7”. Easier to throw around and go rail to rail, and stability wise?

    • @rickweeks
      @rickweeks  2 года назад +1

      Hi GD, the 8'10 is a lot more stable.... but the 8'7 is ok. I have to work more on the 8'7 but it is worth the effort.
      The 8'7 is easier to snap around in good waves, but the 8'10 will perform better in low power conditions since it carries more speed in mush with my weight.
      I like having them both so I can match the conditions

    • @gdewhurst1566
      @gdewhurst1566 2 года назад

      @@rickweeks yeah that is what I really wanted to know I guess. Is there a place for both in the quiver or are they too similar in performance.
      I am thinking of getting the 8’7 in a 2-piece setup for travelling - have you ridden any 2 piece boards?

    • @rickweeks
      @rickweeks  2 года назад

      @@gdewhurst1566 I have recently started getting multiple sizes in some models so I can understand how they size up/down
      Some boards change a LOT between sizes and some surf very consistently regardless of size (like the SP25's)
      The Placid is awesome in 8'7 and 8'10 but I never could sync up with my 9'1 Placid.... the nose just felt too big and cumbersome.
      I love having both the 8'7 and 8'10... they each serve a different set of conditions (clean... less clean)
      I have ridden an 8'10 Speeed 2-piece in Thailand
      I could feel the slightest of movement at the joint because I was trying to feel it.
      I didn't feel any difference surfing it, mostly because you naturally stand behind the joint, so you really couldn't feel any difference
      the 2-piece adds a few lbs to the build.
      I think a small board like the 8'7 would travel well as a 2-piece but since the 8'7 would fit most airline guidelines, I find it easy to travel with a one piece.

      Hi David.... hummm, that's a tough one.
      Kind of like "Who do you like better... the blond or the redhead?" 🤣
      Right now I am tossed up between the 8'11 SP25 and the 8'7 Placid
      And of course... my "Jack of all trades" 9'6 Kanga
      I'm getting an 8'8 SP25 and an 8'9 Kanga, so I can compare them all in similar sizes..... then it's going to be tough!
      There are days that I ride most of the others as well, so it all depends on the conditions.

      I have ordered an 8'9 Kanga, so I can answer that question... unfortunately I won't get it until March.
      Maybe ask Dave if you can swap out in the water... he was checking out my Placid!!!!
      My friends that have both an 8'6 Kanga and an 8'5 SP25, prefer the Kanga
      I am also getting an 8'8 SP25 so I can have a bunch of boards all the same size to compare.
