As a college dean and professional educator, I must compliment you on your wonderful lessons! I'm an absolute beginner with the uke, and I'm inspired and having fun with your lessons. Thank you, thank you, thank you~
i just bought my first ukulele (have never learned other instruments) and with your vids i learn so easily and it's so much fun! :) thanks very much for your videos!
I want to say thank you Justin for your awesome tutorials! You are a really great instructor. I learned the uke basics in LESS THAN A WEEK. I am a slow learner so that's a huge deal for me. Thank you!
Interesting that Justin started these lessons just as I got my first Uke. There are a couple of good playalong practice apps which cost a couple of bucks but show you how to play a few basic songs with different strumming patterns etc. I think Learn Ukulele in 7 days is one to investigate.
I think one of the most amazing lessons in Ukelele: clear, amazing presentation, simple yet nice demonstrations. Hope more people like and subscribe this channel.
Hi. I really appreciate your lessons. I bought a uke several years ago and after a few days i put it away. Today i picked it up and found your instructions here and i feel like ive got some hope again. thank you for all your hard work getting these videos made.
A uke is essentially placing a capo on the 5th fret of the guitar and playing the thinnest 4 strings (although the top string of a uke is an octave higher than the note that's on a cappoed guitar)
Hi , excellent tuition , as a beginner of couple months , trying to work out which finger goes where on these chords, you make it so simple to understand , thankyou.
I always found the G-chord most interesting because even the minor and dominant open chords are the same shapes as the D-chord on guitar. Not just G-major. This is a good memory tip for beginners transitioning from guitar
Got my first uke today, i got a tenor which feels like the perfect size coming from guitar. Your videos are so helpful! You seem to be everywhere, this morning I was watching your video on how to play sunny afternoon on guitar, when was buying the uke I saw one of your books on the shelf, and now im watching your uke tutorials!
I'm definitely going to be watching more of your videos! I just started out on the ukulele and the chords are giving me issues lol. You make it look so easy!!
I got a Uke for Christmas so this is a funny coincidence. Justin, you're a pretty cool dude, have Happy Holidays and a New Year. Thank you for everything you do :]
I'm not being negative, I kinda hoped this would be the same as Andy guitar, when he plays a chord there is a graph showing you. For later videos you can also try that!
Hey everyone, the greatest results that i've ever had was by following the Arthurs Uke Blog (i found it on google) without a doubt the no.1 system i've tried.
Good day Mr. I am a beginner in playing Uke and was encourage to play by you. If I was to buy a Uke what would probably suit me as a beginner? A soprano? Concert? Tenor? Baritone? Thanks
Ahhh slow down when you say the spots haha I like the videos but me being freshly new I'm still trying to memorize the frets lol thanks in advance? Lol
I find that sometime when I try to play a chord (mainly chords where 3/4 strings are being used) it doesn't make the sound it's supposed to but rather this plucking sound. Any tips?
ive seen other videos say that F7 uses the fourth finger on the third threat of the first string (string closest to the ground). was wondering if you made a mistake or others did
As a guitarist, I would say using the 4th finger wouldn't be great as you would be trapping your 3rd finger unnecessarily. Much more comfortable with the 3rd. That said, fingerings are sometimes a matter of preference.
Do it. I found one on ebay for $25. It's not the best in the world, but then again I am not the best player in the world. It has been a lot of fun so far and in the few days I've had it these lessons have been some of the best I have found.
So question on ukulele strings which are a generally excepted gauge I've been playing guitar for awhile now and even extended range and other things and i use pretty heavy strings (mainly on the seven because i tune to Drop G) so is there any "For Beginners" pack or is it just a preference thing with no real difference?
Honestly, he was moving to fast for me. So, I saw an add, on this video, for an app called yousician. It's awesome. I already know how to play a song, and I just started today. It's for ukulele, guitar, bass, and piano. Sorry Justin, Yousician stole your thunder.
HappyHopie Honestly,Yousician is way better than any RUclips lessons since it explains everything more clearly(for me).Ive had guitars, ukuleles, pianos, accordions, clarinets, trumpets and violins in my life.It helps so much better than this
Gosh, I was hoping to find someone with a similar opinion. I found the first lesson took me 3 days and just tried to follow this one but its miles too quick for someone like me who has never played anything before! I will definitely look for yousician now!
I can follow along with the video, but I also got Yousician and I found it to be helpful as it lets you work at your own pace (kinda) lol talk about a ruined video
I saw you playing classical gas in ustream ! Then why aren't you posting it as a tutorial? I am a huge follower of your site.I'll appreciate you taking the pain ... I completed the folkfingerstyle. Best of luck for your UKE series. why dont you do Soul Sister song. I'm looking forward to slide guitar series Happy New Year from India.
After wanting for several years to play the uke I discovered Arthurs Uke Blog and this appears to be the top home study method (google it if you're interested)
I got good guitar stuff on the way dude, but you know I'm a stickler for organizing stuff and the new series just still need more tweaking before I start filming them and gettin them out... more lead techniques, jazz rhythm, jazz lines and Recording Techniques and a classic lead solos series all in development and hopefully be out in 2014 :)
I've been watching your videos for years and got a Ukulele for Xmas, any reason you left of A and A7, don't they get played often. Anyone found a nice easy site for learning songs.
thanks for the video. I cannot rhythmic strum the ukulele as you do and the sound is not melodious as when you strum the same string/cord. Can you point to the videos where it shows how to strum so that the successive stoke create music (as in your case) instead of noise (as in my strumming)

Any tips for switching between chords? I'm having trouble moving smoothly from some (like F to Fm). It's like finger gymnastics for me.
Continued practice is the only thing that will make it easier.
I love this guy! This is so helpful!

Hi , excellent tuition , as a beginner of couple months , trying to work out which finger goes where on these chords, you make it so simple to understand , thankyou.
Just taken up the Ukulele & your instruction is by far the best out there...sticking with you 👏🎸🎵

I'm definitely going to be watching more of your videos! I just started out on the ukulele and the chords are giving me issues lol. You make it look so easy!!
Great lesson Justin, so many useful tips here. Many thanks.
Proper Finger positions you are teaching at 1:17 is what makes you different form teachers 👍
Hey @Justin! Amazing tuts! It would be great if you make a playlist dedicated solely to playing Ukes! :)

what does "dominant" mean? when do u use it in songs?
You're making me want to buy a ukulele.
Same here.
Exactly

for the g chord, i play it with the 3rd finger and 1st finger swapped around, i just find it easier. is that okay?
perfectly fine! if it's more comfortable - do it! not like it changes the sound, so :)
Sorry to hear someone broke in to your studio :( hope you'll get back on track soon
hi guys, the best success that I have ever had was with the Arthurs Uke Blog (i found it on google) definately the most useful system i've tried.

G Gmin and G7 are the same as the D Dm and D7 on guitar.

After wanting for several years to play the uke I discovered Arthurs Uke Blog and this appears to be the top home study method (google it if you're interested)
Dam u Justin I been waiting for another guitar lesson an all u got for me is these uka. Lessons cone on man

On the ukulele, when doing the G chord do I strum the g string or not
hi guys, the best results that ive ever had was by following the Arthurs Uke Blog (just google it) without a doubt the most helpful idea i've tried.
I've been watching your videos for years and got a Ukulele for Xmas, any reason you left of A and A7, don't they get played often. Anyone found a nice easy site for learning songs.

Somewhere over the rainbow and I'm yours are very popular beginning songs

Any suggestions on songs I am use to practice these chords?
With lesson one you can play Octopus's Garden, Let it Be, I'm Yours, Cups (Anna Kendrick), Love Story (Taylor Swift)
which songs can I practice after the second lesson?
can u use a pick?
Im very new to Uke, but right off the bat I noticed that the G - chords, G, Gm and G7 are fingered exactly like D, Dm and D7. Interesting.
Hey , im left handed ... So what should I do ?
thanks for the video. I cannot rhythmic strum the ukulele as you do and the sound is not melodious as when you strum the same string/cord. Can you point to the videos where it shows how to strum so that the successive stoke create music (as in your case) instead of noise (as in my strumming)
it the way you are strumming in 9:56 and 10:06 in your first tutorial (right hand ) first tutorial
Ok found it on the website. Cool thanks
😊😊😊😊😊
Hey is it ok if I strum wit my thum?
