    I grew up with the PlayStation 1 under my tv stand and it's one of my favorite retro gaming platforms of all time...so I wanted to do SOME SORT of series on it. But considering it's more fun to talk about the esoteric side of retrogaming I decided to do a ten part series on arcade games that run on PSX hardware; the Capcom ZN-1 and ZN-2, the Namco System 10, Namco System 11 and Namco System 12, the Konami GQ and of course the Taito G-Net.
    Things like Tekken, Street Fighter, etc etc...all existed on these kinds of arcade boards AS WELL AS at home on the PlayStation 1 console! Video game history on both sides of the gaming aisle! Also if you like Final Fantasy....Ehrgeiz!
    We've got arcade fighting games, beat em ups, shmups, lightgun games, horror games...and even a little Final Fantasy!
    Patreon Thanks : Seth Peterson, John Thompson, Paul Daniel, Porch, John Anderson, RayceARoni, Kuranghi, Jason Hixon, Alex Tessler, Jonathan Leung, Martin Donlon, Tom Van Deusen, Barobob, Steve Randall, ahab, K-2, Renaissance 2K, Ivar Wennerholm, Adrien Sebbane, tobemorecrazy,
    Mike Puelinckx, Tony Escobar, H7, Humanoide70, Ben Parfitt, Holger Schmidt, Tim Lehner, matschmonster, Shad Uttam, Dan L, James Mann, Richard Schneider, Coupon Joe, Sunder Raj and Dorfus!
    After I did the intro to the PSX arcade series I had a metric TON of questions about the Taito G Net arcade hardware! Everyone was intrigued by it and they wanted to know a lot more...so here you go! An entire overview of the G-Net arcade hardware, the motherboard, the games...and what I recommend you play! Because this PlayStation based arcade board is a ton of fun and has some great shmups, run and gun beat em ups, puzzle games...and even one arcade racing game on it!
    plus even if you don't have the arcade hardware like I am showing here these games all emulate via MAME emulation! Video game preservation win! Plus some games got ported to PS1, Sega Saturn and even PlayStation 2! So you don't need to drop big dollars to enjoy this piece of video game history! But there are a ton of PlayStation Hidden gems on the G-Net to enjoy!
    Questions? Comments? Just leave them below and I will do my best to answer each and every one of them!

      The other more obscure port to DS from the G-Net was Turn It Around (Mawasunda)
      I imagine it's a lot more fun in the arcade with the proprietary controller. Simulating the crank with a stylus isn't very satisfying

    Big things I looked for at arcades
    1) interesting input devices ( ddr mat, plastic gun, any strange looking controller)
    2) any game by SNK they made good arcade games
    3) arcade exclusives that didn’t have home port

    Great vid! Personally, it's a bit hard to go back to playing the OG versions of Psyvariar Medium Unit/Revision & XII Stage since both of their Steam ports have built in autofire for important mechanics ( the roll button in Psyvariar's case, and the twirling ship motion that shots out side shots with a multipler in xii stag) and it helps a lot for serious runs.

    • @VideoGameEsoterica

    Doesn't matter how good those games are, home console hardware based boards like this killed the arcades. Why would anyone take the time to go to the arcades and waste credits for games that look exactly like the ones they play at home?

    • @VideoGameEsoterica
      @VideoGameEsoterica  Год назад +4

      It meant we got a lot more games. Not every game could afford to be on System 22 / Model 2 or 3. Lower spec’s but still better “than home” was important

    • @Imgema
      @Imgema Год назад +1

      It meant we got a lot more games nobody cared about. The whole point of the arcades was to be the state of the art. And sure, having a few PS1 games in between the Model 2 or 3 was fine, but when console based hardware became the standard, it was the beginning of the end for Arcades and this isn't a coincidence.

    • @VideoGameEsoterica
      @VideoGameEsoterica  Год назад +3

      Man you are spicy today. I strong disagree. PCs killed arcades. Simple as that

    • @Imgema
      @Imgema Год назад

      What do you mean spicy? I'm not rude or anything. Anyway, PC hardware was simply the final blow but arcades were in decline long before that. After the PS2 was released, reaching 100% parity with every possible Arcade hardware, nobody cared about the arcades outside Japan anymore.

    • @VideoGameEsoterica
      @VideoGameEsoterica  Год назад +2

      Lol spicy doesn’t mean rude. It just means “passioned”. I just don’t see it the same way. Once PC parts started showing up in arcade platforms vs bespoke custom chips it was all over. You have Konami with 3DFX and PowerPC in the mid to late 90s, Atari/Midway with PC 3D accelerator chips…everyone realized why go to the expense of designing custom hardware when an off the shelf processor and some 3D chips that were in use at home could get near to the same result with 10% of the R&D costs.

    after watching your video I ended up purchasing a board from japan, comes with a shanghai game but no super cap board.... all those ones with the super cap board were like $500 more. Have you tried turn it around, it's I think the only spinner game? Looks like mostly a mini game comp but seeing arkanoid and cameltry in there looks interesting. I believe it had a DS port but using the stylus didn't translate well. maybe RC dego, I didn't see a jumper switch for spinners like the F3 so I am assuming mapped to left/right. I was looking at s scan of the gnet manual it doesn't have trackball and analog output however the manual never actualy details. Now Raycrisis was a different story. I played it through Mame, and PS1 through emulation. The Arcade Version was smooth as butter. No loading, low input lag, fun game. The PS1 version while it looks the same, it performs pretty badly. Lots of slowdown, noticeable input lag, the game has to load when you get 2 a new stage, and worse of all its only Single Player. Now the performance, and input lag could be the emulator so who knows maybe it plays better on original hardwarw so take my complaints in that regard with a grain of salt.
