However gay Broadway is, there are so few lesbian love stories in musicals or even straight plays, and even less love duets between two women. This is a beautiful song and very well sung here with the original cast. LaChanze is clearly a little nervous at the beginning but as soon as Elizabeth Withers starts singing, she finds her groove again. Unfortunately the revival wasn't as good with this song. Erivo was brilliant. Hudson was just too busy belting at the top of her lungs to feel the song.
Certainly one of the best love songs from an American musical this century. 😍
