He’s a great counter balance to Soto’s horrible defense. They are exact opposites and have a similar total WAR. People need to stop ignoring Soto’s glaring defensive problems.
And this is him at 25. Imagine how bad it’ll be as he ages
It’s ironic because the deep run the Padres had in the playoffs back in 2022 was fueled by Grishams hot bat and our weakest moments that postseason were from Soto’s ineptitude playing defense. He will end up screwing you when it matters most.

@@AnimeBronx You failed to mention it’s an accumulated stat. Soto had 150 MORE PLATE APPEARANCES. 🤡 He’s the most overrated player in the league. Hands down.
@freudianslipandslide That's not true. Our struggles in that postseason came because Phillies got to our pitching.
Soto had some incredibly clutch hits. His big defensive blunder against the Phillies came in a win
Padre fan here. Tell him to swing more. Also, his defensive style is like he's bored but he makes every play he's supposed to and some that he shouldn't

@@AnimeBronxIt’s strange tbh. He has so many at bats where he just makes the wrong choice on every pitch. Watch a 3-1 fastball middle middle then swing out of his shoes at something he couldn’t reach with an oar kinda guy. The boys were right in his assessment that it often feels like he steps up looking to walk.

Trent going to end up being much more valuable to this team than Verdugo.
I disagree. Verdugo will be a fan favorite and very productive.
@@Legnerps I just don't see Verdugo doing enough offensively. He'll hit around .260 with a .325 obp & limited power and solid defense in LF. Grisham at least provides elite defense in CF and had similar OBP last year with a much worse babip. Would love nothing more than verdugo to be great but I just see Grisham's swing at Yankee stadium and other skills helping the club more.
