Great video, Paul. It appears to me that 1079 is doing most of the work, with 1089 going along for the ride! I exaggerate of course, but in these clips it does seem that 1089 is being steamed very lightly......
@@paul1089 I appreciate your reply. In QR parlance, the train engine (1089) is the locomotive coupled directly to the train and the assisting engine (1079) is on the lead!😀 I don't mean to argue here...just stating how it is.
@@steverob7637 I should add that 1089 was suffering several leaking tubes on this run and was removed from the train upon arrival in Mackay. 1079 took the train on to Brisbane a few days later and 1089 was road hauled back to Ipswich Workshops for a retube of its boiler.
Was on the train. Great trip from Cairns to Gladstone. Missed the last legs because of the extra days in Mackay courtesy of the Cyclone 8-) Your video bought back happy memories. Cheers
+Alan Barnes All the crewing was done by the Brisbane steam qualified drivers and fireman, with a local pilot on board the lead engine to advise the crew of the knowledge of the road.
hi was BB18 ¼ 1089 did it get scraped or they did get the parts and fixed 1089.. leaking boiler tubes did they fixed the leaking boiler tubes. and are they bring him back in 2016 or the next few years. thanks Aussiereborndaddy

Great video, Paul.

The front loco is the one that does most of the work with the second loco assisting when required.

Yeah, I remember that about the leaking tubes, now that you mention it!
How much water would the water tanks carry
The large wagon behind 1079 holds 45,500L and the 2 smaller wagons behind 1089 hold 24,000L each.
Great video, thanks. NSW.
This was a great day, I was lucky enough to be able to ride it between Bowen and Proserpine
Where is 9:32?
Ayr.
@@paul1089 Ahh thats what I thought it looked like the Home Hill area.

I’ve heard that 1089 is getting boiler repairs
Nothing is happening with it at present, it is in storage.
1079 has a higher sounding whistle comparing to 1089s whistle
Yes, 1079's whistle is very unique.
Another very good video Paul.Any idea of the crewing details seeing as steam had not been this far north for years.Alan.

Memoirs of holidays at Caloundra just down the road from Landsborough
Why did the train have 3 water tanks
So the engines would have adequate water for the long journey.
Was 1079s whistle tuned differently

+Aussiereborndaddy From what I've heard, 1089 has been completely re-tubed and should make a mainline comeback sometime this year.
ok
2 steam engines in one train. wow.
A pity we never know where we are why?.
