  • I have been an ebay seller for 19 years and I have made a decision to discontinue selling on ebay full time. While I will still keep my ebay account open with some active items - I will no longer put the same energy into selling on ebay as I once did. This is why I have made this decision...

It's no more risky than selling anywhere else. If you sell on your own website people can still submit a chargeback to their credit card companies and the credit card companies almost always side with the credit card holder.

They said it was more realistic to see a few bad reviews and how we handled the situations than to see 100% good reviews that they feel may not be an accurate representation. (But I understand your frustration, cause the customers should have stated they had an issue but you fixed it...not claimed fraud.)

Last negative I got I just ignored it because I knew they would do nothing. But yes - always reply to the negatives and give all the details and be professional - it's all you can do.

Ebay has never backed the sellers, sellers are the ones that pay them not the buyers.
I now do not put my address on the shipping labels anymore, i had a customer that wanted a refund, said item was used , when it was brand new demanded a refund, i refused to refund, he emailed a picture of my house and said this is where it was mailed from.
This reminded of a friend thirty 30 years ago who was having a problem with a seller over an item, he told the person on the phone that he would ride is motorcycle out to his place and burn it down.
So from know on i don't want to put my exact address on the labels.

Good video with a lot of good points. I would say, I encountered missing listings also, and read somewhere that items with no traffic or sales in 18 months can indeed disappear. I've taken to refreshing or engaging with year old listings to avoid this from happening, and it's worked perfectly.
Agree SO MUCH about Vero. They expect us to know but don't provide the information.
Feedback has been harder to get removed, and people definitely will try to scam. I've had good luck linking the eBay rep to the necessary eBay policy and cite the exact verbage to the rep. They have yet to say no when it's right there in front of them, and I've found most reps unfortunately do not know eBay policy very well.

You said you'd like feedback, so here it is. If an item is not thoroughly tested, you should list the tests that were done, the results of the tests, then state no further testing performed. This allows the buyer to understand what you know about the item, what you don't know, and allows the buyer to make an informed decision. I do buy used electronics on eBay so this advice is based on my experiences as a buyer.

I'm a 26 year seller and I've received more negative feedback this year than I have in the past 26 years combined. 100% of those negative feedbacks were from buyers who straight up lied about their experience in the feedback and not a single one even attempted to return their item. eBay wouldn't remove any of the feedback even when I had the buyers dead to rights in the eBay messages.

I just went round and round with eBay about an item that it is "EPA Registration exempt." They were able to read it straight off the bottle. This item is a chemical that is safe to plants and animals, and it has an exemption from having an EPA registration. However, if it was a chemical that was harmful to plant and animals and had an EPA registration it could be listed. I like you have also been getting hit a lot all of a sudden with VERO strikes as well.

I can understand why Ebay isn't removing negative feedback. Feedback is pointless when everyone has 99%+. IMO, niche sellers at top of their game will be only ones with chance of maintaining 100%, which may help to justify charging higher prices. However, I believe most buyers will still gravitate toward lowest price and not consider the seller's feedback or lack of ability/willingness to properly test and describe an item.
