So, the best description of the song that I've heard is that its structure mirrors the cycle of needing a fix, getting high, and then crashing back down.
Mr. Hetfield said in an interview that yeah, the song is about drugs, but also, really about all addictions we have in life. And our being tied down by them.
This song is about addiction. As a recovering addict and alcoholic with almost 22 months clean and sober, I definitely relate to it because I spent 31 years in the grips of my addiction. Thanks for keeping it metal and being a great reactor. There's your light bulb moment. They were harmonizing on their guitars.
When he says fix me, it is referring to being fixed with a shot of heroin. Watch almost any old MetallicA video when James says fix me he does the jester with his hand of shooting heroin into his arm. The very second when he says those words there is a guitar solo, the solo is the immediate rush the second the heroin hits your bloodstream.
Great reaction, as usual. Loved your aha moment when you realized what the song was about. You have become my favorite reactor, and I watch quite a few. It’s fascinating seeing others first time impact on songs I’ve loved for so many years
Thank you so much for the kind words - it's been a real joy so far listening to this music and experiencing it all with such a brilliant group of new friends.
Excellent work! You did not disappoint! That bridge melody is actually both guitar players playing one note at a time in harmony, over the rhythm guitar backing track. I'm sure someone else will point it out, but the music itself is in four movements. The jones, the fix (melodic bit), and the comedown back into the jones. To your point, the line "Fix me!" is a double entendre, meaning both elements, I need a fix and I need to be fixed. Some other early work you must check out (which will also boost your signal) are the instrumental "Orion" from the Master of Puppets album, "Fade to Black" from the Ride The Lightning album, "Creeping Death" from the same album (a biblical song about the angel of death/Passover) "One" from And Justice For All , (as well as the title track) and Blackened from that same album.
dont forget: welcome home (sanitarium), battery, leper messiah, for whom the bell tolls, four horseman, jump in the fire, harvester of sorrow, dyers eve,......just for starters.
The music tells the story just as much as the lyrics. The hard, aggressive beginning is the need for the next hit, the slower instrumental is the euphoria of drugs kicking in, and then the inevitable crash and aggressive need for that next hit. The laughter is the paranoia kicking in which further feeds the addiction in attempt to silence the perceived laughter.
The bridge is genius. The euphoria of the high, turns dark and sinister, then to anger, with the addict realizing he's been deceived too late. I always took the "Fix me!" as both a cry for help and a plea for another fix... the true hell of drug addiction.
Indeed, what's the medical term for it?...Down-regulation? Once your body becomes used to the chemicals coursing through it, it will set that as your homeostatic baseline, so your body will demand the drugs even when your mind knows that you are slowly killing yourself...it F'ing sucks, you feel forever at war with yourself...
It's a song in 3 acts. First act the quest to get high, second act the high and crash in instrumental & the third act the realization that all this wasn't worth it and this is all a vicious cycle.
"Creeping Death" - Metallica Live in Moscow 91' - This song is about the life of Moses. The Creeping Death is the plague inflicted on the Egyptians, also known as the Angel of Death. He was sent by God to kill every firstborn child. Moses told the Jews to save their firstborn sons by putting lamb's blood on their doors. So epic.
With metallica the instruments are as much story tellers as the lead singer.. After the 2nd verse when james"s voice fades out crying fot "master" the beautiful slow solo is meant for the listeners to experience the high with the addict and the 2nd solo more intense to experience the rage of the addict demanding to be fixed
I would love to hear more, this is such a wonderful story!! I was fortunate enough to portray a B17 bombardier in the upcoming Hanks/Spielberg series "Masters of the Air". It was incredible to learn what the brave souls like your grandfather went through!
Yeah, I have to jump on the great reactor bandwagon. One of the rare few that understand what they're listening to from a logical and emotional perspective.
I sometimes feel a bit 'cheap' making videos like this just based on the negative energy from a lot of users towards reaction channels. To be honest, I don't see it as much of a reaction anymore - I just like to see it as experiencing new music with a bunch of new friends :)
I JUST SUBBED LOVED THE REACTION. YOU LOOKED A LIL CONFUSED ON THE SOLOS THE MIDDLE SOLO WAS THE PERSON GETTING THEY'RE FIX WHILE THE LAST IS THE CRAZY I NEED A FIX NOW SOLO. GREAT REACTION GLAD YOU'RE ENJOYING METALLICA REACT TO A DAY THAT NEVER COMES LIVE A NIMES FRANCE 2009 AND WATCH THE GREATES PERFORMANCE EVER.
Yes, addiction. Great reaction again. Please stay the course with your analyses and never apologize. It's your opinions we are looking for. It seems like you've worked sorry out of your dialogue, carry on. Your vessel and vein are so very important for many reasons.
Thank you very much for your comment - it always brings me great joy to see something from you pop up! Slowly but steadily finding my feet on this platform :)
I got heavy into Metallica in the early 2000s when I discovered them as a young teen. I always put Justice at the top of that early catalogue because of the production value. It's not perfect, but it sounds best matched with James' fully matured vocals. It's peak Metallica. But seeing that your channel name references vinyl, I hand to add a x2 to what I've already said. Metallica paired with Walmart recently and rereleased their entire discography in remastered vinyl. I bought a few of them and they're real good. Justice sounds the best in my opinion. Those Walmart exclusives are a great way to get your hands on some great Metallica pressings easily. But now you should listen to Reign in Blood. I think it's the best sounding metal record of all time. On vinyl, it's really an experience. Rick Rubin absolutely nailed it.
When you see Metallica's "One" see the Official Music video and have the lyrics on standby. The Official Music Video is deeper than the song alone it's from a World War 1 movie & Metallica bought the movie to play snippets in the video and honor the fallen.
The lead part in the middle is double-tracked, but it's 2 parts playing a harmony way up on the fretboard, rather than playing at 2 octaves. Good video, man :)
I got this album new as a teen, at the time Metal was not as well acepted as it is now . I constantly was told my music was sh-t (I think thats why I watch these wideos) . There is a certian amount of satisfaction to see people acept and like metal now. also it seemed rather funny (interesting funny) for me Metallica got softer but for you they are getting harder. Have a good day.... Slayers Mandatory Suicide reaction, Yeah I would watch that.
Al's Vinyl Collection a fyi i you didnt know they have tons of versions of every song, a crazy amount of deep multi meaning songs, tons of Symphony, slow songs, country, movie ,hard rock and metal of course...but with rare exception id prob do live not the in studio
7:42 That's called a harmony. Two instruments playing corresponding melodies with different notes but in the same scale. It's what sets Metallica apart from most other thrash metal bands in the 80s, and it was a concept introduced by Cliff Burton.
Carolinabeauty I'm a fan of the fans - or a fan of you for sure. I'm going to record a special little message for you at the start of the next video but again I can't believe your generosity and can't find the words to express my gratitude. Thank you ❤
I think there are 2 main audiences to Stranger Things: those who grew up in the 80s, and those who are the approximate ages of the grade-school characters. So I completely get why it might not grab you like it does many others. But that's okay. No entertainment is universally beloved; nor should it strive to be. That would be boring.
You should really check out their live performances, they are even more amazing imo (ruclips.net/video/2f1Ny74_ou0/видео.html). But for something different, you should also check out Eivor - Falling Down (Live At The Old Theater in Torshavn) ruclips.net/video/KNPIdGBn7M4/видео.html as well as I Tokuni ruclips.net/video/pqnMkUcTmys/видео.html. But every song from her is great imo. Great reaction btw.
Metallica have long said that slower, softer additions to their songs will make the harder, faster parts seem that much harder. Yes, they can/could play hard and fast all of the time. However, the contrasts make a much more interesting listening experience.
The song takes a turn because when an addict is high he experiences euphoria. Before that is the agony of trying to get it or fight a losing battle with yourself to not get more. The third part is coming down and being angry at yourself and the drug because it's all about to start again
Great reactions! You need to hear more live Metallica - and don't fall for the "vintage is better" claim - the production value of their live videos from the last at last 10 years that they post regularly on their official channel is quite amazing - the moscow concert might have been their biggest audience but it doesn't mean the recording is best to listen to. Probably just go with the newest live videos that have most views on them - that's a good rule of thumb. You'll love Fade to black. Also, when you're ready to hear some utter (teenager rage-type) chaos, but aristically expressed - enjoy the Dyer's eve, but in that case I recommend going with perfectly remixed and remastered version by Ahdy Khairat, since the original mix on the album was, let's say, controversial, and with such a song a good mix is a must: ruclips.net/video/68I0jI9dbqw/видео.html
early its from the drugs point of view in the end its the user point of view and the nice part in the middle is while your on the drug. the song is a ride in the life of a drug user.
No bro, Metallica and Dire Straights music are not even close man . And yes this is about drug addition, and how it controls your whole life, and how great it feels when you're on the high, that it's really killing you!
You are all wrong. The song is about a sugar rush. In ye olden times people used to chop their cornflakes on mirrors. Superstition i guess. People, you need to reed! 🤨🤨🤓🤓🤓🤓
So, the best description of the song that I've heard is that its structure mirrors the cycle of needing a fix, getting high, and then crashing back down.
Yeah something about the drugs being the master and sucking your breakfast off a mirror
I’m the biggest fan of them ever…but the music was written first.
Like the song could be about the kthulu and the middle part would still be there
@@FinkleisEinhorn52 I didn't mean to imply that the music was _dedigned_ to evoke that imagery. Only that it works nicely as such.
Mr. Hetfield said in an interview that yeah, the song is about drugs, but also, really about all addictions we have in life. And our being tied down by them.

Mad props to you man 💪
This entire album is worth a full reaction tbh. A metal masterpiece.
This is technically 3 songs, the craving at first, the high in the middle, and then the come down at the end.
Yes , you are spot on. The song is about addiction.
When he says fix me, it is referring to being fixed with a shot of heroin. Watch almost any old MetallicA video when James says fix me he does the jester with his hand of shooting heroin into his arm. The greatest band ever 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘….the level of sheer talent is crazy 🔥🤘
Get a grip ain’t done shit since justice for all
They kick ass, but there's a new metal band taking storm in the talent and riff department. And they're all chicks.
This whole album is killer
Great reaction, as usual. Loved your aha moment when you realized what the song was about. You have become my favorite reactor, and I watch quite a few. It’s fascinating seeing others first time impact on songs I’ve loved for so many years

^ this is a good list... I'd also like to add Ride the Lightning, Disposable Heroes and Damage Inc.
@@Jerkturtle yeah and The Four Horsemen

In the 80's there were tons of anti drugs commercial but this song is why I don't do drugs. I didn't want anything controlling me
This album was recorded when their 20's. Such talent.
This whole album is just gorgeous.
This is my all time favorite Metallica song. You got it.
It's a song in 3 acts. First act the quest to get high, second act the high and crash in instrumental & the third act the realization that all this wasn't worth it and this is all a vicious cycle.
The evil laugh of the drug followed by the desperate laugh of delirium by the user at the end just sums it perfectly. Great listen and follow.
5:23 - 5:40 all stages of an epiphany...
It was actually neither a 12 string nor double tracked, it's dual guitarists. Yes, the were that good.
Funny how everyone who reacts to this song really doesn't get it until they hear"chop your breakfast on a mirror"Then suddenly a light bulb goes off
First solo performed by James Hetfield (rythm guitar and vocals) second guitar solo performed by Krik Hammett (lead guitar)

Master of puppets been a legendary song for ever and I haven't seen a lick of stranger thangs
8th Air Force Hat? My grandfather was in the 8th in WWII. Based in Northampton. Met my grandmother there and brought her back to the states!

If you didn't notice it. Take a closer look at the artwork on the album cover. It illustrates exactly what this song is about.
Love it. Please do Metallica Disposable Heroes - about a soldier dying in battle
excellent reaction, it does show some of the versatility in their playing

Some lyrics specifically reference drugs. I think though this song is a poetic but scary message to not be a puppet of your vices.

In the middle section, the guitars are just harmonizing, in thirds, I think.
I feel like you would enjoy B.Y.O.B by System of a Down ;)
And an awesome video too. System Of A Down are my favorite band of the 2000's
I was the weirdo back in the late 80s that played this song lol
You really need to watch some of these live. No tricks or special equipment... Just talent. Rhythm, lead, bass, and drums.
In 8 mins, its a combination of flanger and distortion

Todays music since like 2010 is so lazy in comparison. It is disposable just like cars and consumer products today

Its about cocaine
