10:57 For reference, Adalaide Byrd is the same person who scored the first Canelo-GGG fight 118-110 to Canelo, which even his camp thought was absurd. This caused what should have been a close decision for Golovkin to become a draw instead
First fights score cards were so silly but it should have been a draw it was close. Considering all the damage Canelo was dropping in the championship rounds. Broken clock is right twice a day
Feel like you could have made a top ten list of Diego Sanchez fights alone. Seemed like a 3-4 year period where he blocked every punch with his face and got a split decision out of it.
well to be honest its hard to score significant strikes when Diego's chin just doesnt accept them as significant 😂😂 cant compare a power punch on Max Holloway with a power punch on Cody Garbrandt
I was actually in San Antonio for the Sandhagen-Vera fight. It was my first UFC event and Cory put on a show. When the first scorecard was read I kid you not everyone around me erupted into laughter. It was just so ridiculous how anyone could see the fight for Vera
The big problem is the fact that judging in combat sports is like 85% subjective. It's based on a specific judge's interpretation of the action, which is impossible to standardize.
well, they discussed the Font/Chito fight and how the strike numbers don't match who won. It was called 10 times narratives were proven wrong or something
Apparently the title implications of the Sandhagen/Chito fight weren’t that significant. After getting 50-45’d, Chito got booked to fight up the rankings against Cejudo while Sandman was booked to fight way down the rankings against Umar. Now Chito beats Munhoz and is most likely getting the next title shot over Sandhagen and Merab lmao
Feel like Sandhagen/Vera was supposed to be an exciting standup war when the matchmakers were making it, but ended up being super boring because Corey started using a control based, wrestling-centered gameplan against other strikers. Not that I don't appreciate Corey's skill in multiple areas. Just think that the wins were slow and unimpressive to a large portion of viewers, and that may have set Corey back in regards to a title shot. All speculation though.
@@FuntClaps101 I could see Corey vs Sean being super exciting for fans if Corey goes into it with a game plan that isn't centered around holding him down. He was getting booed during the Font fight, and despite having a good reason for that gameplan, it doesn't earn him fans. Fans and momentum both help a fighter push for that title shot. Chito beating O'Malley in the past/their resulting rivalry is definitely the main reason though. You're right about that.
@@redbill7154the Vera fight he didn’t wrestle much. He did the first round and the other 4 rounds were almost exclusively striking it was boring bc Chito froze and threw almost nothing bc his slow making reads style doesn’t work on a guy that has a chin and a dynamic striking style that he can’t figure out
@@redbill7154 If anyone found that fight boring, it is entirely Chito’s fault. Corey didn’t go into the fight with a control based strategy and to suggest he did is disingenuous. The only grappling heavy round from Corey was the first one which was to establish the threat of the takedown early and he did a lot of ground and pound. Most of the fight he was striking and outclassing him on the feet. Chito had no answer for Cory’s style and caused him to freeze up the whole fight
I believe it was on Rogan’s podcast sandhagen said that the judge that said chito won apparently had an altercation with him one time when they were coaching opposing fighters a while back. He wasn’t accusing him of anything but he just thought it was a weird coincidence
Actually the judge also refs and what (allegedly) happened was on a regional fight that sandhagen was coaching on, an opponent had a rear naked choke under sandhagen’s fighter’s chin but it wasn’t sinking in. Both the fighter and Sandhagen were saying he was good but because it looked bad, he stopped the fight. After that a verbal altercation obviously followed. This is what I was told (I train at Sandhagen’s gym)

Can you make “10 times where the commentary team was watching a completely different fight” because we’ve had some bad ones recently, especially with DC and Cruz’s commentary on the JDM vs Hafez fight
I love cruz and dc as fighters and everything they did in the sport, but....neither one is enjoyable to listen to on commentary. Dc rambles on and is really biased at times, cruz always tries to go against what the other commentators say to the point of delusion. I'd like to see rogan, john anick and bisping as the main roster
You know, I'd like to know which judges are "getting it right" compared to general consensus and media. I don't think it would be a very exciting video to make, but it would be interesting to know who our unsung Steady Freddy's are.
Just rewatched the chito sandhagen fight. Honestly, the last 3 rounds could have gone either way. Chito did get taken down in the 5th but neither fighter dominated
I remember when scorecards for Strickland - Hermansson fight were read and somehow one judge scored it 48-47 Hermansson people at UFC Apex went "WHAT?". It was stupid judging and and audience basically roasted this judge
Change scoring to 0-3 instead of mandatory 10-9/8. Rounds where nothing happens both get 0 points. Close back and forth but one did better 2-1, and for clean sweep of a round 3-0. If someone gets a takedown but does close to no damage but held the guy down 1-0
I think you misunderstood the point of the video, because you literally said yourself that all judges scored it for Jones. However the point of the video is to talk about fights where the judges had very different scorecards or better said, watched two different fights for same one fight, like the ones in the video.
@@SenorVictor9 The judges did have pretty different scorecards in the Jones vs Reyes fight. What were two judges watching when, in round 2, Reyes outstruck Jones by a pretty significant margin? It was a weird ass scorecard from all the judges lol
Do what they do in judo. Score individual actions. Put a number on a strike(light, medium, heavy, knockdown, KO), put a number on a takedown(easy takedown, difficult to complete takedown), and of course the submissions. I always thought the 48-47 for Felder was some kind of unwarranted, very awkward retirement gift, kind of a career tribute from the judge, that actually nobody was asking for
Doug Crosby saying that effective grappling isn't given enough weight is absolutely WILD to me. If anything grappling is overvalued for the impact it has. "Effective grappling" should involve chasing submissions or throwing strikes. With how effective people are off their backs in MMA, control is simply not enough.
Effective grappling is actually undervalued in that most people think that the scoring critera is damage triumphs all when, it's essentially impact of striking (effective striking) plus the impactfullnes of executed grappling moves (effective grappling) with no favor put inherently to either category.
