Mark, I wish I had a dollar for every time I've been told there is no need to balance a trailer tire. All my trailers, regardless of size, i.e. RV or motorcycle, ALWAYS have balanced tires. It just makes sense!!
Mark, one thing to point out…more and more Discount Tires are using Road Force Balancing. When you see that metal cylinder push up against the tire as it’s it being balanced, that’s a road force equipped balancing machine. What that cylinder does is simulate road force on the tire, giving the machine a more accurate reading of balance requirements. It can make a huge difference in the accuracy of the tire balance. 👍
Agreed! We purchased an RV 3 yrs ago b/c of this channel - we were complete newbies, my husband is extremely busy so I am the one that has learned everything and I owe it all to Mark! I feel extremely competent with our RV (even though we don’t get to use it much) - I never felt like a newbie. I was surprised on the last video that he mentioned people don’t like to see these videos that much but then again, we camp next to others that do crazy things like parking their RV on a hill in front of a lake with inappropriate chalking so I think a lot of people don’t want to be taught.
We blew a tire on the highway with about 4000 miles on the tires. I had my tire aid ramp, socket to remove the tire, and my torque wrench to tighten it back on. However, the nut holding the spare onto the mounting bracket was a different size that I did not have. I did manage to get it off with an adjustable wrench and made sure we had that socket within 24 hours.
Brilliant decision to add the Centramatic wheel balancers. We put them on our Airstream when it was new in 2018. I have hit my share of potholes over the years, but we have never had any abnormal tire wear. When we replaced the tires about 6 months ago (35K miles) due to age, the tread wear was absolutely even on all 4 tires. You confirmed why we will stick with our TST TPMS. It is nice that the sensors are inside the tires, but I don't like that the "navigator" can't monitor the tire pressures or respond to an alarm while we are on the road. Safe travels in the hot and smokey NW!
10 to 12 ounces of BBs in your tires will also continuously balance your wheels as you drive. They work well for any size wheel. The larger the wheel, the more BBs you need. Ceramic balance beads are also available, but they are very pricey.
I installed Centramatic balancers on my F450 and Momentum 399TH before it even hit the road for the first trip. The trailer now has 46k+ miles on it and the original tires have 75% of the tread left with NO unusual wear patterns. My truck's steer tires made it 45k miles before I changed them and the drives made it 55k miles before they were replaced. I am a HUGE fan of Centramatic balancers. I wish they fit disc brake hubs since my next trailer will have disc brakes.
MARK I the diesel treatment and had the same problem keeping it in the rear door. I bought a small container from Walmart and now keep it in the bed of the truck with shop rags in case of high elevation passes. I live in Reno and go over the pass a lot so I know your pain!
The new, changing each time, contact name for your spouse ❤ 😂. This season’s Easter egg. I have friends who want me to wash my truck because they want it to rain. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.
I used to use a 4-way on my trucks and tires and never had an issue. That said, I recommend people use a socket, breaker bar, and digital torque adapter to make sure they properly tighten the lug nuts when they put them back on. Too loose or tight can cause nuts to come loose and fall off, but it's more likely it'll cause the stud to sheer off and they you can't do anything without taking the whole thing apart and replacing wheel studs and lug nuts or even the whole wheel bearing hub.
I was driving on southbound I5, leaving downtown Seattle this morning 8/11. I Saw a white Ford and Airstream driving northbound on I5. Was it KYD? My family and I love the channel! Thanks for all you do!!
Personally, I used "Dyna Beads" to balance my wheels, others have used BB's to do the same for dynamic balancing. The fluid type can be effected by cold temperatures and may take longer to re-balance.
I had the option of Ford's tpms sensors, but the expense of that option is huge. I bought the Tymate TM7 off Amazon for $30. Worked perfectly on a 3300 mile trip I just did. Tire pressures and temperature in one unit, no programming needed. Plus you gain an extra USB A and C outputs. WIN
Great video, we really enjoy them! I added the Centramatic wheel balancers to a class b Safari E450 motorhome in 2010, they worked great! I wasn't able to remedy a vibration in it. We now have a toy hauler. Safe travels!
I've had CENTRAMATIC Wheel balancers on my 32' class C four years. New tires installed two years ago and I have not rotated and am a full time traveler. Class C rides straight and no uneven tire wear. About 15K miles.
I put a wrap of duct tape on the arm of the breaker bar that fits my tires. Makes it easier to put the right one on the wheels every time, especially at night.
They make neon coloured duct tape. Usually in the Electrical or Plumbing areas of Home Depot or your special Contractor's Store like Greybar. Neon color helps with visibility in the dark and also easier to identify compared to regular grey/black.
Excellent video and great suggestions. We have the lift ramp for changing tires, too. I will be putting a TPMS system on our trailer this year when we make our trip. I do need to make sure I have all the equipment I need to change a tire on the highway. I have most of it. Just missing a couple of items. Many thanks all your tips and recommendations. They've been outstanding! Safe travels, y'all!
One thing on the Centric balancers is I put them on my Super Duty and it took cooler weather and windows down to figure out that until you get above like 30 mph the material sliding around the ring sounds like the brake dust shield rubbing the rotors times 4. Great for highway driving but a bit noisy city driving. I didn't know they made them for smaller hubs. Good to know.
The manual TPMS learning for our Chevy would have been a hassle too. I bought an $8 pairing tool and was done in one walk around. We upgraded to a fifth wheel this summer and our psi is out of range for the Chevy TPMS. Love the content, wouldn't have had the confidence to start without kyd videos. Curious about the balancer as it attaches to the hub, I thought weight weight compensation between the wheel and tire is what smoothed out the ride. Guess if you wanted to test it you could have them put the balancer in the balance machine with an unbalanced tire and see if it reads a balanced tire.
Watching your channel reminds me of all the childhood memories of RV camping!! It was a great time. Now to get my husband on board for RV camping. He says tenting or no camping. I'm not a tent camper.
Plan your next tent camping trip when a storm is expected, put a few pin holes in his side of the tent, remove the tent stakes from the bag and hide them at home, “forget” eating utensils, go out to pee 3 times and bring mosquitoes back in with you…and sandy feet, slide a board or stick under the tent where he sleeps, get the screen door caught in the zipper of the fabric door…….he just needs a little persuasion and a camper will be on his list of needs :) Tent camping used to be fun but my little scamp is cloud nine !!!❤
@@rogercyr1551 On GM/GMC Trucks and time you rotate tires or add TPMS devices you need to re-train the TPMS system to tell it which tire is in what location. There are two ways to do it, go into train mode and change the pressure in the tire indicated by the dashboard, or use a training device you place near the valve stem of the indicated tire and press the button until the car beeps.... I got tired of doing the tire air release and picked up a training tool that works for several brands and it makes the job much easier....
My travel trailer has a TPMS that reports to the dash of my Silverado. The guys at Discount Tire have a tool that easily and quickly matches each tire to the correct position. No messing with the air pressure required. It seems as though your Ford truck would have the same.
I was just going the mention the same thing. Our 2024 Chevy has the tire monitor system and we have an extra set of sensors so the RV and Pontoon Boat (not at the same time) tires are monitored on the dash. Our installer programmed both sets in under 2 minutes with his scan tool. Not sure on the Ford but GM also provides internal temperature on the tires.
the principle of the Centramatics is the same way they balance a washing machine tub. You can also dynamically balance your tires with other media in the tire, (thus the tire balance beads) or the old school way, just add a antifreeze to your tires, except not with modern air pressure censors, but its the same principle.
I always carry a M18 Milwaukee 1/2" Impact with deep sockets and a floor jack. Throw that 4 way crossbar in the trash. Love the nickname Trish the Dish!!
Funny, informative & corrective additional tire balancing for "road worthiness & weariness". Your clean-ups on your truck are 'styling' until the *rain puddles 🌧️🛣️. Till the next, look forward ... 👌
I added the Ford integrated trailer TPMS system for my RV as well. But, I have 17.5" wheels and the valve stem is 0.625" instead of the 0.452" you find on most rims. Ford does not make a TPMS valve stem in that size, but I found a company out of Arizona that sells them. You remove the sensor from the factory valve stem and bolt it to the replacement valve. They are something like $20 or so. BTW, the max air pressure you can set for the Ford trailer TPMS is 125PSI. I run 18 ply load range J tires on 8k axles and 128PSI is their cold rating. Running down hot Texas summertime highways, they can get up to 147PSI. That sounds insanely high but my tire guy says that's normal and these tires are made to handle it. The guys selling the valve stems say they are rated to 200PSI. Sorry Mark, I'm not using a load table for my tires. My heavy RV trailer rides just fine. :)
Do you use RainX washer fluid? Based on your windshield at 47 seconds, it doesn't look like it. Get the RainX windshield washer fluid (empty what you use currently). It won't look like it's working for the first half of the first bottle. But use it generously for the first bottle (not like over the course of one day... more like over the course of those few weeks). By the time you're near the end of the 1st bottle and on to subsequent bottles... Game. Changer. My windshield never looks like how yours looks at the 47 second mark of this video. Just gotta make sure to use it regularly to keep the coating current. I can't live without it!

The car irritation imps were really playing with you this week Mark 😂. The rain after the detail must have stung. The technical bits are always interesting to me.
1:23 into the video and my back cringed. Try the HitchGrip to carry that large hitch around. It creates a center balances at the handle where you don’t need gloves (I still do use them) and allows one hand operation putting it into the receiver.
I thought you should know we were unsubscribed from your channel? We’ve been watching you every week for over 5 years every Sunday. Not cool of RUclips$
We used Centramatic wheel balancers years ago in the trucking business. They work fine until the fluid leaked out. Then they would destroy a tire real quick. I would think they have that problem solved by now.
I invite you to come to our campground on the west coast! Jones Creek Campground , 22 miles west of Tillamook, in the Tillamook State Forest and on the Wilson River,. on Highway 6! My wife and I are camp hosts, and we are a first come, first serve campground. Based on our summer so far, I can guarantee we'll have a site for you from Sunday afternoon to Thursday , (sites are only $20 a night). I'm Bryan and my wife is Mary, and we have been watching you from the beginning, and you inspired us to RV full-time when we retired, 3 1/2 years ago.We would be honored to have you camp here.
Looks like Discount Auto Tire installed the Centromatic Wheel Balancers backwards. The position they placed them would allow the wheel center to squash them toward the brake drum. If they were installed flush to the brake drum then when the lugs are tightened, everything is flush and tight. Pull a trailer wheel off and look. The balancer is squashed to the drum after the wheel was tightened. Too bad it did not come with installation instructions.
@@NWI_Steel Centromatic Wheel Balancers backwards is correct. I have used these for along time and they will save your trailer. Best upgrade for the money
Good stuff. Did I read your tire right that your trailer tires are 5 years old? thought I saw week 46, year 19.... Still amazed that you have found your best towing without a weight distribution hitch, but like you said in an earlier video, the real test is on the road, and if that is working the best then there is no argument for sure. This balancer idea is pretty neat. I am going to check into that for sure. I still find the best tire pressure monitor is a true pressure check before every tow day, and a good kick every time I stop... gotta be careful when in sandals though... continued safe travels....
You have amazing eyes! Yes, 46 19. This trailer has been used much and clearly the tires were either covered or in the shade. I'm down to my last millimeter and will change this winter. I would have done it now, but I'm moving to the 16" Sendel wheel. Yes, the Airstream tows so much softer now with the rigid tension from the bars. We almost hit a deer at full speed and swerved (camera wasn't on) and the trailer tracked to perfection. Proper tongue weight is key. Your right about checking manually... and free.
I wonder if it was you who I saw while driving through Sea Ranch a week or so ago? I also have a newer White Ford truck towing an Airstream. The person driving towards me flashed their lights in recognition of similar rigs while navigating California highway one. Regardless, my wife and I frequently watch your channel. Keep up the good work!
Hi! I really enjoy your videos. I am planning to start my RV adventure after the first of next year, when I pick up my 2025 Outdoors RV. (FYI, I retire this October 4th and will have knee replacement surgery in late October. I am in the Orlando area. The RV will be manufacturer in Mid-October. The manufacturer and dealer are both in NE Oregon.) Watching your (and others') videos have really started preparing me for what I need to know. I purchased a 2024 Ford F250 Lariat with the Ultimate package. Like your video, it will allow me to monitor the tire pressure on the tires of the RV using the Ford tire sensors. Here is my question. Did you have to install tire sensor receiver under your RV in order to transmit the tire pressure signals to the truck? I have looked online at the FORD website and it appears the system I must buy for the truck to monitor the RV tires includes the sensors inside the tires and a receiver that must be installed under the RV and connected to the RV electrical system. I truly appreciate your time on this issue. Best regards, BobM
So you’re able to receive the readings from the trailer tires without adding the Ford TPMS kit that adds a receiver underneath the trailer? Also, why no sensor on spare tires?
I've been wanting to change hitches, but really like the long shank so I can open teh tailgate. This is a good winter project as I think it will take a couple shanks to get it right.
Good day! When we first got into RV'ing I used to watch your videos a lot. Haven't in a while but saw this one today (which was very good) and noticed you no longer had the Hensley hitch. What caused you to stop using it?
Trish, maybe I misunderstood when you said the media has a life expectancy of 1 to 3,000,000 miles? If that's true, it means the life expectancy of the media can be 2 miles and still meet expectations...Am I missing something here? We have an Airstream Classic and take our trailer to Discount Tire as well. I noticed that Mark had them lift his trailer from the axles to change the tires? Our Airstream has lift point indicators underneath our trailer to ensure they do not lift it from the axles and bend them. So are you saying it is okay to jack up our Airstream from the axles rather than the indicated lift points? Thanks guys! Keep up the great videos!!!
Hey Marc you should do an episode on how to tow in the mountains without blowing up your truck lol. We finally made it home from Mt Rushmore but the truck was totalled since the engine caught on fire..
@KeepYourDaydream happened right before the entrance to Mt Rushmore. If you want to interview us for a future episode on what not to do reach out to us lol
To make things faster on the tire change would be to buy an electric impact strong enough for vehicle and trailer lug nuts. The less time spent by traffic is less chance of being hit
If you put the balancers on the way you did when you tighten the lug nuts doesn’t it bend the center to flatten against the brake drum? They need to be flat which is the reverse of your install I believe. 🤔👍🏻
How do you get all of these vendors an shops to agree to being filmed? It seems like everyone you talk to is polite and helpful. It isn't always that way and I was curious as to your tricks.
Thats a good observation. After so many years, my gut tells me who is okay with the camera and who is not. I can tell by the way the look at it in my hand. If I think they are okay with it, I casually ask if I can record, their reaction tells me if I can include them or not. The way I hold the camera (while remaining eye contact) keeps the conversation normal. Def a learned skill. When picking shops, I usually find places that have social media accounts which can indicate they are okay with their shop being recorded.
Hey Mark- Love your channel. On your tire saver video you run your tires at 65 psi. I run the same tire but run at full load psi of 80 psi. I have been told to run at full load psi. Wondering if I need to follow your example or continue running at full load psi. Stay safe- thanks.

I hear this all the time. Crazy. Welcome back!
I didn’t see a link for the Ford tpms. I would like to learn more about them. Like cost and where to buy.
I love how the SPAM lunchbox keeps putting in a cameo. Is that senior Brady in the last shot?
Great video ( as usual). ❤
Yes to Brady! So much fun.
We installed tire monitor system becaise we had a tire going flat and we didn't know it till we got to camp well worth the money
Happy Sunday funday KYD family! If you’re ever in the South Bay. Come to Morgan Hill!!
I think you're right. With the air pocket between the balancer disc and the hub, it seems like it would crush when the lug nuts are tightened...
I was thinking the same thing. Also he said he doesn’t rotate his trailer tires. The rear tires wear faster as they slide slightly when turning.
We looked at it closely and double checked online. Thee brake has an offset so the holes on the lugs are flush.
@@NWI_Steel Centromatic Wheel Balancers backwards is correct. I have used these for along time and they will save your trailer. Best upgrade for the money
Can you use the balancer on the truck wheels also? Love the tire change simulation idea. 😊
Thought we weren't supposed to use a jack on Dexter torsion axle since it could bend them and instead use the frame to jack up the trailer.
Close to wheel works fine. Jack points are too high with lift. There is a frame member that could have been used.
Brady! The crossover we never expected!!
Same! Such a small world! Have your heard Tricia's interview. Long time ago! www.keepyourdaydream.com/sv-delos/
Your right about checking manually... and free.
I love watching you guys I can’t wait for Sunday to see what’s new so much fun. So what happened with the house in Florida?
We finished it in Feb and will build an ADU this winter. We'll share the ADU.
Thanks for a great video ! See ya next week 🩷
We only made it as far north as San Rafael before heading to Tahoe.
My husband washes his truck and it rains. I water my plants and it rains.
Mark, I don't believe I've ever seen a video going over the Maintenace of the wheel bearings on the trailer?
Safe travels 😊
Trish the Dish, so cute. Seeing helicopter that takes water, you must be in Fire country 😍🤠
So you’re able to receive the readings from the trailer tires without adding the Ford TPMS kit that adds a receiver underneath the trailer? Also, why no sensor on spare tires?
Maybe a "booster" is built-in? I didn't add one. No option for a spare sensor.
keep the clips coming
If you are done using the spring bars you should just get a B&W hitch so you can just flip it into stow mode when you unhook
I've been wanting to change hitches, but really like the long shank so I can open teh tailgate. This is a good winter project as I think it will take a couple shanks to get it right.
Million dollar truck with all the upgrades… jealous, not going to lie
Good day! When we first got into RV'ing I used to watch your videos a lot. Haven't in a while but saw this one today (which was very good) and noticed you no longer had the Hensley hitch. What caused you to stop using it?
Murphy's Law, Guys! Carwashes and Detailing are magnets for Rain,lol1
Don’t forget a torque wrench to properly tighten lug nuts after changing a tire on the side of the road.
Thank you
Trish, maybe I misunderstood when you said the media has a life expectancy of 1 to 3,000,000 miles?
Oh geez. Was this the dip I saw on the Insiders page?
@@KeepYourDaydream yes sir it was
@KeepYourDaydream happened right before the entrance to Mt Rushmore. If you want to interview us for a future episode on what not to do reach out to us lol
You need do a Video on why you sold the Florida house.
Just get a learn tool for those tires. Great for when the tire shop forgets after truck tire rotation reprogram
To make things faster on the tire change would be to buy an electric impact strong enough for vehicle and trailer lug nuts. The less time spent by traffic is less chance of being hit
Agreed.
Your tpms sensors will effect balance as well
Thanks
I’m not sure if you do or not no
In my camper I use nitrogen instead of air in my truck as well it keeps the tires a lot cooler
If you put the balancers on the way you did when you tighten the lug nuts doesn’t it bend the center to flatten against the brake drum? They need to be flat which is the reverse of your install I believe. 🤔👍🏻
Interesting tire balancing system. Can you offer a review of that in a couple months?
I will. Might be hard - like the CP4 pump. No news is good news!
Here's Goodyears load inflation table. Move your truck to max cold to see what's it like. www.goodyearrvtires.com/pdfs/rv_inflation.pdf
In the south, we call rain while it's sunny out "the devil's beatin' his wife with a fryin' pan". 🤷🏼♀️
Great tips as always! - Michelle
I have Cetramatic wheel balancers on my peterbilt big truck. I could not recommend them more.
Every time I had a tire change on a trailer of any kind, the tire shop people looked at me like I had 2 heads when I asked if they balanced them!
