Better to compress the suspension with a ratchet strap so the rear axle, swing arm pivot and the transmission shaft are on the same plane - at that point adjust the chain for 5/8 inch of free play half way between the front and rear sprockets.
Always best to have it on because you never know when a rock or downed tree will catch your rotor or sprocket. I went for a ride once without a skid plate and bent my sprocket right sideways. Was not a fun night haha
Hey guys question here we have a 300ex here and it's the same but the chain tensioner part is actually broken and can't spin to tighten chain do they sell that peice separate ?
Yes once it's adjusted as far as it can go and your chain is still too lose you can either take a link or 2 out or you can get a new chain. Preferably o ring as they last much longer than standard

The service manual seems to show 1 5/8" of play. Some of the online versions have been updated to 1 1/4" of free play.
simple 2 the point thumbs up!
Hey mate do you ride your bike without your skid plate or leave it on ?

My nephew says a 400EX and a blaster or more or less the same thing when you tighten the chain chime in and let me know what you think
Not even close, 400 will whoop on a blaster all day.
What if I move the hub almost half way and it doesn’t tight. Do I need to replace the chain?
