- MUST SEE! BAe 146 RAF ZE700 - Very close landing taxi and takeoff - Gloucestershire Airport
Just after landing you can hear all the Wake Turbulence! Brilliant!
This is the first time i have ever seen this plane land on runway 27! Hope you enjoy this new video!:)

What an amazing 4 engine jet. Worlds only 4 engine STOL plane and it's the quietest 4 engine plane as well. Well done Brits you should be proud of this Gem!
I was captain on the AVRO 85 for several years. I miss that plane!
Nice man
Same
I watched a video Clip in which it was critisized that the Avro 85 has four engines
Could You perchance explain why?
Thanks You in advance
@@Rotebuehl1it's just that the avation regulations back then stated that an aircraft must have 4 engines so that if two fail, two would still be active therefor the avro, a340, b747, etc also have four engines
Used to fly on this comfortable little plane to work every other week. Still my favourite flying experience, and a great view without the obstructing wings.
great close up of the air brakes being deployed, and a very rare treat of both seeing and hearing the wake vortices on approach at 53 seconds and 1 minute respectively.
PSA airlines in the American southwest had many of these in their fleet.[1980's+] It is, and was a fine aircraft. I loved this plane- quiet smooth and confident. Smoothest landings EVER! I was sorry to see it go. In 2017, I would fly on this plane in a heat beat! A GREAT AIRPLANE.
You got that right. Idk why they were so smooth maybe bc of their landing gear geometry and how comparatively wide the gear is for such a small plane. Very little side to side and tilt. I also loved the fact it was a small plane but had 4 engines and as a kid I always thought that was so cool. Same with the a340 even tho that’s a much bigger jet. These were also feather quiet, I lived right next to the airport and you could see them but never hear them unlike every other turbo fan plane. My most favorite plane that would come to our airport was a Learjet 28 with their turbojet engine that were incredibly loud easily on par with a MiG 21 and would climb a few thousand feet in what seemed like 15-20 seconds. I sall that pilot do many loops, barrel rolls, and aileron rolls in that very plane as well as wing over wing turns and many other maneuvers and always buzzed the 6 story warehouse and paintbooth my father owned which he used it to paint a lot of things for NASA, the military base close by, Disney, Epcot, universal studios, island of adventure and a lot of other very big sectioned structures like roller coasters and what not. That pilot must have owned the plane either that or the owner was super cool. The Learjet 28 still holds every single private jet performance record to this very day 45 years later.
Flew the Avro out of DTW for Northwest for 7 years. One of my favorites. DC 3, King Air 200, and the Avro. The speed brakes on the tail is opened at 50 feet prior to landing. The aircraft does not have reversers. Awesome brakes. 100 passengers. 9000 lbs thrust per engine.
I miss the NWA look at Detroit Metro. Delta removed the soul. Maybe it was the 747 mural on that large hangar that was doing for me as a kid.
That is really nice! Superb footage! Always loved that British plane!
Thank you very much for commenting, She is one of my favourite!
Matt's Aviation Channel hey Matt, not cheating on ya,lol, this guy provides some good videos also
Great looking and sounding 146 with excellent camera work, editing, and spotting locations. Very cool to see it use the turning node for take-off! Liked a lot-very nice work:)
Thank you very very much!
I love her eerie wake turbulence sounds. Great aircraft. Miss her at in commercial aviation.
My buddy Keith flew the BAe 146 as a co-pilot for City Jet out of London City airport for many yrs and he absolutley loved to fly this plane. The wings incorparate technology that was way ahead of its time and even today the wing is still regarded as one of the efficent of its size. Its designed for high lift because the plane itself is designed for short, hot and high runways, hence the choice of four smaller engines rather than two heavier bulkier engines that in wind tunnel testing resulted in too much drag and too much of an adverse impact on the high lift principle of the wing.
It's almost got a harrier look to it
There was a larger 2 engine development, but it got killed during the market crash.
Nice cute jet, well engineered and built to fit this very particular scenarios with short runways
I love the air brake system, so cool, so British!
When they are engaged it's like someone stepping on the brake pedal in a car. 🙂
Did you also spot the threat detector (underneath) , all the cameras and the two chafe pods at the tail ? A most secure VIP transport.
@@rogerhudson9732 it's a RAF jet used for VIP transport of government officials and the royal family.
Uma beleza da tecnologia inglesa....
Man has built a bird! What a gorgeous creature! It just doesn’t get any better! Only God has created anything more beautiful! 🇬🇧🥂💐💛
The best Bae146 close landing I've ever seen!!! Cool take-off too!
Wow, Thank you very much!!!!!!
Love the 146
Video of BAe 146-200QC C3 No.32 The Royal Squadron Airforce ZE707 - Close up Take off Gloucestershire Airport can be viewed here : ruclips.net/video/73yoRybSzhA/видео.html .
I remember seeing these fly over my house when they were in service with Ansett New Zealand. They were marketed here as the Whisper Jet.
In the UK too, I'm an aircraft engineer and used to work on them. Sometimes a pain in the a#se but a very safe and sturdy aeroplane and very versatile.
Nick Vallender : same for me when I was living in Napier.
Would they be more economical and easier to work on with just two larger engines@@superseven220
@@edwardbarnett6571 definately with the engines that are available now, and I think this was considered for a later version, but at the time of design in the 70's I don't think a suitable engine was available that met the requirements of short take off and landing capability, especially on hot and high airfields, low noise and simplicity for lower cost of maintenance
Super footage of a very fine aircraft...Had the pleasure of working at BAE Hatfield where they were maintained & tested in the late 1980's &1990's. I saw some amazing one wheel test landings there, the pilot taking straight off again...Happy days
Great video! I just love those little AvroJets.
Thank you! They are brilliant
I loved being a passenger on these planes the overhead wings meant you got a great view of the ground. I remember landing at city of london airport once a bit choppy flying round the office blocks and a steep landing, scary stuff 🥴
4:52 - POWER!!!! Crazy sound like the wild child of the Devil is about to be unleashed! Love it
I love these type aircraft: Kinda like a miniature C-141 Starlifter, or teeny tiny C5 Galaxy. Even a smallfry C-17. T-Tail, high wing and four engines always rule.
***** Yeah me too its awesome! Thanks very much for watching
***** I used to love watching these come and go at John Wayne airport in Santa Ana, California years ago when PSA flew them for awhile before they merged with USAir in 1987. Great view of the ground from all the window seats due to the high wing.
***** Yes, I remember the PSA 146's too. Did you know that a disgruntled employee from the airline go into the cockpit and killed the pilots of a 146 in California years ago? True story. The 146 crashed, killing everyone on board.
+StellarBlue1 I remember them too. I'd see them on approach, when I was on the northbound 55 going home. Great aircraft.
StellarBlue1, I always used to see these at O'Hare in Chicago, driving past on the interstate highway past the east end of the runway, and it seemed there was always one starting it's takeoff roll as I went by. I liked them because they looked like all the military cargo planes (C-141, C-5, etc) that I used to see at military airfields when I was growing up.
But then I actually got to fly on one from Milwaukee to Denver, and it felt very claustrophobic to me..... It is true that the view down is better than the overwing windows on most other passenger jets, but the engines block all other views and that has all the charm of an apartment window that looks out to the side of another building.
I don't know who still flies these.....I never see them on my travels anymore.
I always thought it strange that they were being operated between normal commercial airports in the US....I have a book about the 146 that says the plane was designed to serve third world airports, with short dirt runways, and are kind of wasted in normal airport service....
NWA/Mesaba used these for years in and out of DLH for non mainline flights. I was on many of these and loved the smooth ride.
I'm so lucky that I worked that little aircraft. I'm so proud of her being British. Built like a tank, but still could do her job
that was a good spot indeed!
Plane Flying Thank you very much!:)
Just come across this one. Tremendous close ups. I used to visit this airport when I was stationed at Lyneham. That quality of filming is well worthy of subscribing to and I shall most certainly do so. Thank you
Thank you very much for these very kind words! I am just uploading a video of Falcon 900 N239AX with amazing close ups just like this. I think you will like it. Once again Thank you very much. Hope you enjoy future videos
Awesome vid! I like the bid and the "spoilers" at the rear end during final approach!!!!! Thank you very much for filming this!!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words! It is my pleasure to film the aviation at Gloucestershire! I'm very pleased you enjoyed it
the "spoilers" are air brakes, my dad used to fit those in the early days of production at the de havilland works in hatfield, england.
Today, 9 May 2015, 6:15 AM from Sofia to Brussels FB405 and I realized myself that I was entering a very special plane from Bulgaria Air, nice piece of engineering work. The flight was very smooth, and indeed short take off and fast landing. The sound of start up of 4 engines is also impressive. Not exactly sure what version I flew, but it was for sure a BAE 146, or close version.
Thanks for puttign this movie on youtube, so I can show my family what unique flight I experienced today!
Best Regards,
Marc
Thanks very much for the nice comment, I'm very pleased you enjoyed your flight. You most probably flew in an Avro 85/BAE 146.
I took a picture this morning, and could see the reference LZ-HBZ, and checked on internet
www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-bae146-2103.htm
so it is indeed an AVRO a:

I was always fascinated by these planes. Used to see them come into Lindbergh in San Diego. Did not know what kind of plane they were but I think British Airways flew them. These and the Dornier high wing jets are the coolest looking planes around.
Jurassic world dominos brought me here. Such a cute wide bodied jet. With that adorable quad engines
This aircraft was part of the Royal Flight, chosen for its short field operational capability which was needed in and out of London City Airport, there were two of these as part of that flight, Prince Charles once landed one of them which ended in a runway overshoot causing nose and nose wheel damage, in the mid 90s, later these were replaced with two Falcon 900 lx models chosen for the 3 engines and extra power plant redundancy .
I wasn't a big fan of this aircraft, not until I discovered that tail speed brake system. Damn it's gorgeous!
Great video, excellent close-ups of this nice airplane. I flew in a BAe 146 in the 90s from Munich to Brussels - can't recall what airline it was. This is most likely the smallest 4-engined jet airliner ever produced. Everything about it is odd: small size, very quiet for a jet, high wing jet, no thrust reversers. I love this airplane! Thanks for posting.
corisco tupi
To me it looks like a scaled down version of an American C-141 or a Russian IL-76. Looks like a very cool aircraft!
AlaskaMike72 Indeed!
Its actually proven to be thee quietest jet of its time, so quiet infact that a lot of airports, particularly in Austria and Switzerland where the night flight curfew was very strict, allowed this jet to land and takeoff almost 24 hrs...its why even today when commercial owners retire them Cargo operators snap them up! The vast majority of all that were ever made are still in use today, a lot used for frieght...BAe says that the 4 engine choice was favourable to every other 2 engine option at the time? I have a whole book of this plane, its fasinating to say the least...like you say, its seems to be a strange configuration of a plane in a lot of ways but in actual fact it was and still is an excellent performer in almost every way...
Chris L I recall it was aptly dubbed the *Whisper Jet*.
Yes 'Whisper jet' it was indeed..even w the four Honeywell engines it was amazingly quiet. TNT and Swiss are big operators. It holds the title of being the LAST commercial jetliner to be made wholly in the UK too, many say it could easily have been developed further especially when you look at the size of the market today for planes seating 100-120 passengers? Personally i think British Aerospace wanted to depart from commercial and concentrate on its military side of its business...it can be regarded as a good move i suppose when u think that BAe is one of the top 3 military/arms contravting companies in the world?
Great video, BA used to use these on domestic flights, I flew LGW-NCL on one
such a beauty
Great work there mate and thank you for the beautiful shot :)
That's a nice little airliner 👍
✈✈🚁
Awesome video,great close ups!BIG LIKE!:)
Thank you very very much
notice the anti missile system at the rear? To confuse radar guided or heat seeking missiles
I admire British and German technology. Truly robust and elegant.
Stunning HD footage, thanks from Kiel/Germany- Ingo!
Thank you very much!
I realy miss these beautiful little jet planes. All there is is the embraer planes. This makes me cry because there isn't a single bae quad jet left to fly in.
I grew up underneath the design and testing of this aircraft. Welwyn Garden City, pangshanger aerodrome was close to my primary school, so they had an emergency place to land close to my school. In the 80s.
That plane is so nice and great video
+Cormac Gibson Thank you! If you are interested i just uploaded a video of "BAe 146-200QC C3 No.32 The Royal Squadron Airforce ZE707 - Close up Take off Gloucestershire Airport " ruclips.net/video/73yoRybSzhA/видео.html
Little busy airport!!! WoW!
I’ve always thought the BÆ 146 looks like an undersized C-17 or something.
Definitely.. C-17
P.S. Wouldn't one of these be an awesome Father's Day gift?
Thank you so much for this video, it a very good film....the RJ/Bae 146 is one of my favourite planes and this showd amazing landing and close up too, i love the tail brakes opening, really cool clip...
Chris L Thank you very much for the king words, If she comes back i will sure be there to film her again, this time even more stable.
Fantastic video !! Awesome footage, great close up ! Big like !!
Thank you very very much!
Great video! Is this aircraft equipped with a missile alert system? There are are protrusions located under the tail empennage and the nose which look like they could be part of such a system.
Such a neat looking small rj.
Love the reverse thrust design of this jet, its just a great plane
These planes don't have reverse thrust.
Dana Danarosana you have the wrong person, i never commented on reverse thrust on this plane or any other
I'm not meaning to start anything but that's your comment that started this subfeed feed and it starts "Love the reverse thrust design of this jet..."
Dana Danarosana then i mis spoke watching another video, i apologize
Dana Danarosana no, they have a speed brake, i may have been watching 2 clips at one time, and criss crossed messaging, sorry
Did you see right after first wheels down there was a strong cross wind. Pilot handled that quite well too. My pucker factor would have been bad. Lol
You get a very good view from there. I wonder what it was doing here? Considering it's not too far from Highgrove, maybe old Charlie was aboard.
Hello, Thank you for your comment. It was here on a training course, it comes here from time to time for training.
ES UNO DE LOS PÁJAROS MAS HERMOSOS
These were great little planes and they should still be making them at Woodford 2020 version
I ❤ Baesistem 146 🤩
There was an RC version of this model done by Robbe distribution before they went under this year. it came out a few years ago. was quite a smart looking model using four ducted fans as scale engines. still around but rare..
I never knew commercial jets had air-brakes !!! (certainly did not know that the 146 was equipped with one 00:50) ... Nice video
Almost all commercial jets have speed brakes. If you need to slow down/go down in a prop plane just pulling the power back lets the props provide enough drag to do the job. But jets don't have that ability. Most commercial jets (At least Boeings which I'm familiar) have speed brakes on top of the wings. It's pretty amazing to watch a 727 wing almost disassemble itself when double slotted fowler flaps, kreuger flaps, slats and speed brakes all deploy for landing.
I would love to see someone turn one of these into a luxury jet!
Nice video. Short take off.
why were the elevators not moving the same?
This plane is my bae.... GET IT!!!!!!???
+HaveANiceDay LMFAO, u made my day!
+HaveANiceDay :)
Gotcha!
fletch40 AHHHHHHHHHH 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Why the elevators are not always both sides moving equally? On taxi and when about to run for takeoff, I saw one side up and the other down...
Very nice Video - Thumbs up
I was at the old Hatfield deHavilland site to see the first flight of a 146 .
My goodness was it quiet as it flew overhead
I trained in them at Hatfield. We were supposed to get most of our training in the simulator, but the Chinese were buying a bunch of 146s and were going to fly them with a flight engineer. So they were modifying the simulator to add an engineer's position. Did all my training in the airplane. Probably better training, but there are some problems you can simulate in a simulator (Guess that's why the call it a simulator, huh?) that you can't do in the airplane. Plus airplane training is a lot more expensive.
Would I be correct in thinking this has the same engines as a Chinook helicopter??
There was the Comet DH4 then there are aeroplanes and since then, this! Perfection! Closest you’ll get to a helicopter!🇬🇧Magnificent!👍💐🥂
I used to skipper these. I'm curious about the unusual protuberances on the lower left side of the forward fuselage, behind the forward cabin doors and below the APU intake/exhaust forward of the air brake. Ours didn't have these; spy stuff?
Nice camera work! Always good to see a pro...
If they ever figured out how to increase per mile fuel savings from the engines these would be contenders
Same ones off the CRJ
Beautiful...with speed brake deployment and everything
I still remember the time the bae systems was still here
What a wonderful aircraft and a great video
É um aviao lindo
Anyone else notice the protrusions on the front to either side of the doors, under the front nose and in the rear two more along the stripe. Are these cameras or sensors or some sort?
Does anyone know if there are any more of these available for private purchase? We're a couple on the market a couple years ago...
I miss this plane. Much better than being crammed into a CRJ these days!
👍& subscribed ty for fantastic quality! 🛫❤
This was the plane model used to transport Princess Diana’s coffin from France to the Uk!
I love the bae 146s.
See the anti missile devices for chaff and heat sources on the rear fuselage. Is this the VIP aircraft for Royals and government members?
It is a transport vehicle from the RAF. I think It is used to transport the Royal family or the queen.
There is a video on YT of the Queen stepping off the rear exit of ZE700 next to one of the pods w/ her corgis.
So yes, this is one of her aircraft.
Could this jet be made into a 2 engine jet with a more powerful midsize engines ..?
D Mark these 4 engines help you run them at lower load, and helps with noise pollution
Also on that trip the captain put on an air display at Muscat airport, we were heading for Bahrain, no Royals on board, light fuel load, so we took off, at 100 feet he stood it on the left wing tip and turned inside the airport boundary, did a downwind leg and turned again for an approach, all I could hear was the alarm saying "pull up, pull up" we were 20 feet off the ground with wheels up at 300 kts, I could see every blade of grass going past. In front of the tower he stood it on its tail and climbed out. Put the shits up me I can tell you.
It's the only aircraft on which I've flown. Far as I am aware there are no reversers on these engines.
What are the 2 pods on the aft fuselage below the tailcone-split airbrakes?
that's a helluva quick take off: less than 20 seconds from start of roll to rotate . . . .!!!
Clever aircraft
Love this
Muy bonita aeronave ...
This has probably already been asked, but would I be correct in assuming those white things attached to both sides at the rear of the fuselage are for flare deployment?
vogelbekdier97 Thanks for watching and commenting, Im really not sure what they are but my best guess would be that they are flair deployment, I will look into it.
Iv not heard about the flare depolyment thing, theres certainly nothing written about that...i honestly dont THINK they are for that but im not 100%, as i wrote above, i have a whole book dedicated to this aircraft, im such a geek on this plane, not in anything else i swear! Lol...but i do have a fasinaction with the RJ/BAe 146...il read up see if i can spot what they are for, but like i say i dont ever recall reading about flare deployment?
I like the 146 a lot too. My guess of the flares was purely based on the knowledge that there are other Air Force aircraft based on civilian aeroplanes that do have a flare system. Please do let us know should you find out what the pods are for!
Actually i didnt notice the fact that this jet in the clip is military? I beg your pardon, it went completely past me im sorry. Its only when i watched it back again i noticed that there are quite a few differences to the civilian version, of course. As its a military plane i would assume a guess that they are indeed additions to enable flare release...
Its actually called the queens flight:) Thank you for watching .
Excelent. 10.
Grate looking aircraft.
Pity the union jack, is the wrong way up.
At around 4.14, as it turned for take-off...the port elevator appeared to be in the 'up' position, whereas the starboard elevator appeared to 'lag' in the neutral position for a few moments! Can anyone tell me if this unique to the 146... or am I even more ignorant of aircraft controls than I thought?
So small. Looks like a RC plane!
What are the pods on the back?
Great catch of this 4-holers!
Thank you!:)
0:53-1:05 - Great vortices sound! Particularly 1:00
Yes, I remember that sound when PSA flew these in USA, when the air brakes deployed on approach. The A320 makes a similar sound too.
What is that thing that opens up at the tail end of the plane when it is landing.
Speed breaks
I also watched these at John Wayne, now I get to watch one here in Redmond Oregon (RDM) as a fire retardant bomber...
I was prolly flying it if you watched it at John Wayne in early 80s.
