About this video: On October 14, 2024, MBTA operated a dinner train special with MBTA and Mass Coastal equipment for the 2024 Commuter Rail Coalition Summit event. The MBTA power (GP40MC-3 1129 and F40PH-3C 1033) met the Mass Coastal consist at MBTA’s Middleboro layover yard around late morning. A crew onboard the MC 2008 arrived early in the afternoon and finished assembling the consist before its scheduled departure for Boston, a move that only had crew and coach staff onboard as the equipment deadheaded north for a departure from South Station just before 6:00 PM with passengers onboard. I filmed the last few moves done by the Mass Coastal crew assembling the dinner train consist from the new Middleboro station platform which has yet to be used for revenue passenger service - it will begin to be used in March of 2025 as a result of the opening of “South Coast Rail.” A test train operating to qualify crews along South Coast Rail trackage also passed by me as I filmed the dinner train from the new Middleboro platform. Additional note: MBTA coach 525 “Minuteman” was originally supposed to be a part of this dinner train consist but was removed last-minute (not pictured) due to an unknown issue that came up. Once the Boston-bound deadhead equipment was ready to go, I filmed the dinner train consist at the following locations: Middleborough/Lakeville station, Station street (Middleboro), Service road (Braintree), and South Station (Boston). While the passengers boarded, I moved over to the Columbia road overpass at the JFK/UMass station for one final shot of the dinner train as it departed Boston to the south on its way towards Cape Cod.
