Thank you Legend for doing my Disaster Battle! I never thought of using this position and i indeed tryed to hold the center. Also the small tricks with actually controlling a large army here and changing the Lord to metal are really good advice for this situation. I will try to win this myself for sure!
Just wanna say a big thank you for teaching me how to do minor defensive siege battles correctly. I always tried to hold the major point because I thought I could lose by ticket loss, even though I knew it was almost always the worst place to hold. But you showed me that the major point really doesn’t matter and that has been a huge help. This battle also shows that the magma cannons are still S tier, even if the nerfs it received
This would also be good if the AI held the position and the human attacked into it, because you could fill the high ground with archers and the entire defensive position would be in range. A couple of units of heavy infantry to hold the chokepoints and some artillery to take down the towers, and you could win easily.
One thing I have noticed of Legends play style is that he is incredibly good at pinning down a lot of units with the least amount of units/cost to his army.
Really weird that the AI isn’t spreading out around the settlement. In all my games recently they spread out and hit 3-4 entry points. Maybe it’s cus they have reinforcements. Weird tho
They seem to do it mostly (or only - not sure) when there is a reinforcing army. I wish they would attack at 1, 2, or 3 points at random to keep it interesting.
Another weird thing I’ve seen is the AI targeting the barricades rather then go around them to another open entry point. They will blob up to destroy the barricade rather then flank to another opening. They do flank but on the opening attack they all seem to go strait for my barricades. I mean it’s ok by me but still strange. They had enough units to spread out into every entry point and really stress my defenses. But they didn’t. Only making a 4 pronged attack rather then a 7 which is how many entry points I had.
Things about Magma Cannons , it really good to deals with both infantry and single entity . CDs have so much stuffs to play around and dont feels like it a bad choice ,( most of the time ... ) Still waiting for Dwarf rework.
Yeah, it does good against infantry because it leaves this burning aoe on the ground. When i played Chorfs I found Magma cannons as way more reliable early game artillery than deathshrieker even against infantry. Their only downside over deathshrieker is their line of sight/arc of fire.
@@KowalSonn Yeah, from my experience it kills half of a troop in one shot sometimes. (talking about an example of sisters of averlorn getting hit. 80 soldiers and in a close formation). Definitely a good artillery
@@KowalSonn Deathshrikers have that funny 500 anti-large bonus so they'll dumpster any Large lords (Thorgrim) and any small entity count units (Gyrocopters).
@@KowalSonnI actually find the low arc to be a positive in field battles as it means higher velocity shots and better accuracy. Although it is a bit of a pain in sieges which is the downside. But they cut through settlement walls like butter.
Always felt like magma cannons were under performers... esp compared to the rest of CD artillery. This must be the perfect situation for them. Never realized it left flaming residue!
Magma cannons are overperformers if anything lol. They are cheap tier 2 units and perform just barely worse than tier 5. Their cost effectiveness is one of the best in the CD roster, if not the best.
When Legend starts a sentence with "ANOTHER THING I'VE NOTICED" I immediately visualise another thousand hours of playtime, on hundreds of different maps, in dozens of different campaigns and a bunch of different games in the Total War series.
The iron fist spell from the ogre's can insta kill 100% to 0% a lot of ranged units depending on their formation. The impact isn't quite large enough to do that to melee infantry but it will essentially kill everything it hits.
I feel like Searing Doom is very under-rated by a lot of players. Its very cheap for the damage output, has a low cd, and does well vs everything but single entities. LoM suffers because SD is its only good multi-entity damage spell. If Golden Hounds was stationary, LoM would skyrocket in popularity. Too many players under-value the power of "all in range" buffs/debuffs.
Does anyone know how to take out Vlad Von Carstein as balakor because he just one man doomed stacked my chosen army. Luckily, he paid me for peace, so I was able to rebuild the chaos warrior army, but that just took me by surpirse and slowed my expansion down south.
Aren't all AI characters immortal from level 1? I seem to recall characters I killed showing up in my recruitment pool after I confederated their faction (as Greenskins).
@KowalSonn Yeah this is true, but they aren't immortal after confederation without the immortality skill. So if they were the faction leader before confederation this would explain it.

the irony is that this position would be horrible for combat, but because of how the game mechanic work, and how AI works this works so well.

The real song of ice and fire. Magma Cannons on a chokepoint is basically a recipe for carnage and entertainment of epic proportions.

Except the Song of Ice tried its best but the Song of Fire had Hashut

yep, AI with reinforcements just rush the main entrance which makes it easier.
I guess because the AI usually waits for reinforcements to arrive as close to their entrance as possible so it overrides their smarts to swarm
The low ground might be a weakness. But we see Legend expertly accounting for that weakness by firing a pair of cannons down a small corridor 😂
This is a great showcase of legends tactical prowess.

That camera restriction alone seems terrible, and it's so much worse that it doesn't cover the settlement in sieges.
Beautiful reverse slope defense!

Between their relative cheap costs and build requirements, they've arguably been the best performing CD artillery tbh

Is it possible to regen the artilleries ammo by having the crew demount the artillary and stand on the barricade?
