This is absolutely amazing and a classic example of YOU HAVE NO IDEA (and in this case... no idea what Pastor Wesley goes through every week to deliver an amazing sermon on Sunday morning). God keep Pastor Wesley covered and protected by the blood of Jesus.
I’m a 17 year old preacher, almost 3 years in, preparing to preach this Sunday and this was a needed blessing! Preaching is a never ending journey from start until you take your last breath. The wisdom and knowledge that I have received is soo helpful, important, and inspiring! It took me a while to find that I preach better without notes, and it’s a challenge always committing an outline to my mind. But the advice about not jumping into writing, but sitting with the text as much as possible….LIFE CHANGING!! Thank you Dr. Wesley🙏🏾

Wow...Just Wow. What you have shared Dr Wesley is priceless. As a HUSD seminarian and preacher, knowing your sermon writing process is beyond helpful as I navigate my way to preach effectively. Thank you for sharing this. I'm grateful
A Master's class on homiletics in 38 minutes. Skimping on any area will produce a poorer sermon. I appreciate the craftmanship that goes into everyone of his sermons. Be blessed!
Pastor Wesley, I'm no where near or thinking of becoming a pastor but I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I've been watching you for the past 4-5 years (Alfred Street is my online church but without membership for now) and have been amazed at your craft of preaching. Your passion for Christ/Bible, life, family, always drew me to your relatable sermons. I love the "RLI to Text" style as I haven't read the Bible from Genesis to Revelations but you make it so easy for me to understand and make me want to read it for myself! Thank you for bringing me thru life with your (and Dr. Cosby) sermons! I Love You both!!!!
Dr. Wesley, BRILLIANT USE of this platform to help so many of us ministers. I watched this video this morning and I was blessed by it!! I was literally sharing with another minister friend of mine last night on tips he can use to help prepare his messages without the heavy burdens on him physically and mentally, and what you out together here was so timely and inspirational. I shared this with him already LOL. God bless you sir. And thank you for allowing The Lord to use you.
Dr. John Howard-Wesley, you have always been, to me, one of the greatest preachers of our time and generation. Your incredible gift for teaching relevant, life-changing messages with biblical accuracy and wisdom is nothing short of remarkable. The way you consistently share such profound insights is truly a blessing. This gift you’ve offered us through this video is invaluable and a testament to your commitment to enhancing the quality of sound preaching. Thank you for sharing this resource, especially for those who may not have had the financial means to access it otherwise. I believe this will be one of the most widely shared teachings on sermon preparation in history. The richest part for me was the emphasis on structure and trusting God once the preparation is done. Blessings to you, my brother!
Dr. Howard (Hyphen) John Wesley is one of the New Generals that has exemplified greatness, dedication, and a passion for the responsibility of a Pastor, Preacher, and positive Person! I will always be an Anywhere Alfred Street Member thanks to this Man’s heart and His Brilliant Genius!
This seems so personal. Thank you for sharing all the work that goes into being a great scholar and man of God. No wonder I am so locked into the word when you are preaching and teaching Bible Your commitment and dedication to delivering God's holy word to thousands of people every Sunday shows how and why God has provided for you and ASBC. You are legendary and such a trailblazer in the ministry. Thank you!
You can tell that Dr. Wesley loves to preach. It is always inspirational to watch someone do and teach what they love. I have a better understanding as to how God is able to use him in such a profound and powerful way.
Pastor Wesley, In 2014 I was blessed to be awarded a fellowship scholarship which required me to temporarily relocate to the DMV area. Once I got settled in with my Fellowship responsibilities. I began looking for a Church to continue my spiritual growth and walk with God. Colleagues made suggestions on where I might find a church home away from home(Cleveland, Ohio). My journey brought me to Alfred Street Baptist Church (ASBC). I returned to Cleveland, I am grateful to have grown spiritually and mentally by hearing the word of God delivered by you at ASBC and participating in the Online Men’s Sunday School and Bible Study classes. You and your administrative team are doing Great Things at ASBC , and I truly appreciate being a part of this fellowship experience. God’s Continued Blessing Over You, Your Family, and Your Administrative Team.
Unfortunately, there are preachers whose preparation does not approach this in the least! Thank you, God, and thank you Dr. Wesley for this ministering through sharing. Though I am not a preacher, this insight will help me become a better Sunday School Teacher. God bless you, you've blessed me.
Dr. Wesley: Thank you for this brilliant, well-crafted exposé on your personal process to reach sermon readiness. As a seminary professor of worship and music, this short video is packed with possibilities for class discussions and opportunities to explore the implications this process has for worship planning, selecting appropriate music, and the integration of other worship arts media (dance, drama, visual arts, etc.). You have given us so much to unpack. Thank you for your transparency. Thank you for the clarity and quality of the content contained in this presentation. Please know I am making this video a required assignment one of the up-coming modules in my MUSIC AS MINISTRY course. I hope other worship professors, musicians, ministers of music, and worship pastors will see the value in watching and reflecting on what you have provided. Thank you! -- Dr. Tony McNeill, Affiliate Prof of Worship & Seminary Musician | Columbia Theological Seminary | Decatur, GA
Dr. Wesley, excellent presentation. I assumed all preachers get ready on Saturday night, too🤦🏾♀️I just want to know how you fit in time with your family and things you want to do? Sermon prep requires a lot of time.
I appreciate this transparent, informative explanation of Rev. Dr. Wesley’s process. When I tell people how long it takes to realistically put together a thorough sermon/lesson, it’s almost like they don’t believe it. Many think it takes a day or hours, leading up to Sunday but for many preachers, it’s difficult to turn off that process even right after we just preached.
I love to hear Pastor Wesley preach his transparency and realness is what gets me. Now to see all the hard work and preparation shows just just how much he cares about what he puts out there. I expected nothing less. To God be the glory all the lives he will save. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Thank you Pastor Wesley for this awesome video! I learned a lot and will incorporate your steps in my sermon prep. God continue to bless you and your ministry!
This is good! A confirmation and new insight! Wow! I've never come across a Pastor's Confident enough to "teach" this! Thanks Rev Dr. you can take this somewhere else to help those in need of going deeper in this effort than just a pep talk. That's what Scholars do. Love it!
I’m in my first semester of Divinity school. I guess the biggest challenge so far is finding my voice and proclaiming it as scripture takes the number one. You are serious and I thank God for your obedience 🥰
This is soooo good!!! As a manuscript preacher, knowing the length of the sermon by the number of pages is so spot on!!! My sweet spot is between 12-14 pages!
This is so helpful! As a somewhat new preacher, I’m always working on preaching the gospel in a way that reaches people where they are, directs them to where they need to go, and assures them of the grace they’ll need to get there. Timing on sermon prep is my biggest struggle and I’m often up until 2-3am on Sunday mornings getting everything prepped. Thank you for giving a detailed timeline for how you prepare! I’m going to give it a try this week as I prep for Sunday. 🙏🏾
That was really good! I picked up some pointers that I could use for public speaking in general! I've never heard this 'behind the scenes' view before. I really enjoyed it.
Stumbled upon this video and couldn't click on it fast enough. I first heard Pastor Wesley preach back in circa 2001. He preached a revival at my church (Mt Zion of Ontario in California). He blessed us so much that he was invited back the next year and blessed us even more. I have followed his ministry ever since that time. I am no preacher, but as he described how he prepares for a sermon, it so aligned with how i prepare to lead a song as a P&W / choir member. The Democrats can be just as ugly and controversial as Trump, yet, there is a clear bias against Trump that implies, vote democrat. We may disagree on who to vote for, but I pray Dr. Wesley continues to be blessed and used by God.

Thank you for letting me go through your experience as a preacher. Having a whole week to prepare for 45 to 50 minutes sermon is really so demanding. However, I feel challenged and motivated as a young preacher for more dedication to the Lord's Service.
