Minnesota is working real hard to become the frozen California of the north. Wait till the new taxes kick in to pay for the 40% state budget increase the Governor and the DFL rammed thru last year. Minnesota cost of living is going up real fast! Just like California and New York. There will be a lot of U-hauls leaving the state in the near future!
I moved to MN from WI 9 months ago and I’m seriously considering going back to WI. Between the rude and disrespectful people in general, disrespectful business workers, high cost of living, awful landlords, bugs, trash, and filth in the apartments, lack of access to good health care and services…..yeah, not the place for Wisconsin nice people.
Some say “cold & aloof” and “passive aggressive” - but I see that as “freedom from small talk with nosey neighbors.” I recently bought a house in Minnesota and it’s wonderful not having to interact with people unless I want to. One of my nextdoor neighbors has NEVER spoken to me. I’m like YES! Please don’t engage with me unless it’s important. 😅 ❤ (Her husband is very friendly and kind tho.)

There's more to Minnesota than the twin cities..... born and raised on the Iron Range, lived and worked in the cities for 10 years. I'll take living up north every time.
I love northern MN!! It's so beautiful up there. I just focus on the Twin Cities and surrounding areas because that's where I live and can help the folks looking to move here. But I have great connections all over the state for anyone looking outside of our areas.
If you like high taxes including retirement taxes, cold weather, High crime, Passive aggressive, and Mosquitos its a great place for you. I have to admit I love the summers here (June, July, Aug) great fishing , lots of trees, and lakes. Maybe when I retire I will just visit in the summer
I think we're about the 5th or 6th highest taxed state and our governor is trying to turn us into CA2. But I love Minnesota, especially in the summer. If you like parks, hiking, canoeing or kayaking, camping, scenic drives... it's an amazing state. I can do without the winters and will probably be a snowbird eventually.
oh man, the traffic thing... I lived in Florida most of my life where traffic is absolutely atrocious - living in Minneapolis now and the traffic here is NOTHING! I always laugh when I hear people complain about it because they honestly have no idea.
Well when winter comes and it snows driving becomes a bit more interesting. Any drive can become hours long. Snow sucks, but a good ice storm is whole nother level of suck!
Love it. Boston roots heah, but a lot of my life here in Colorado. Love hockey, played it for over 20 years and I know Minnesota would be a great place to live for anyone who plays hockey! Of course. The problem is I'm 63 and I don't know anyone who lives there. All the Minnesotans I know live here in Denver! Lol.
I'm mostly from MN. LIve in Green Bay. GRB is the city most like MN. Low rents/home prices, TONS of higher paying jobs, good schools, no traffic, lowest crime in the US. GRB may have a better ratio of good jobs to housing costs, vs MN. GRB is actually a bit south of the Twin Cities, and has better winter weather: Less cold, less snow, and more sunny days. Minnesota is the best state, and their Lake Country is amazing. Green Bay may be a good choice, so include it when looking at Minnesota. It is only about a 4 hour drive from the Twin Cities and Duluth. Use your Free Will to LOVE!...it will help more than you know
You mentioned a video on the surrounding suburbs… great! I’ll keep a look out for that video! Looking into the area for work and just curious on the areas. (Coming from out of state) 😊
@@ericaaldaco54If you haven’t moved here yet, which given that this was ten month ago I’m thinking you have or haven’t for good, Stillwater would be a pretty long drive, but Woodbury is just east of St.Paul.

@@MN_Best_Real_Estate I was born and spent childhood in Northwest Beaverton Portland. Lived in Burnsville and Edina through adolescence and have lived in Southern Cal for 14 years. Huntington Beach previous four
Thank you for the helpful information. I just wanted to know how's the school are for children with autism? My wife and I are wanting to move by next year but we don't know how our son will do in schools?
Was just in Minn this past Thanksgiving visiting from Southern Cali. My friend lives near lake Nakomis. I cant help but wonder tho. Is it still dirt cheap to live in Minn or does average about the same compared to California when you factor in the maintenance. What I mean is yes Minn homes are cheaper. Cali homes are ridiculous expensive but you don't really have to do any required maintenance. Where as in Minn, you can buy a cheap home but my friend has constantly spend money and time on up keep. Has to switch out spring/snow tires, has to shut off pipes so they dont freeze, has to constantly heat his home, had to replace windows because of weather damage. etc etc etc
These are all excellent points! I would say it is still far less expensive in MN. Yes, you do need to heat your home, but that's only for about 5 months. If you buy a home that is energy efficient the heating and cooling costs are pretty inexpensive. When making home upgrades, it is smart to consider the long-term cost of those improvements, install vinyl windows and not wood, do aluminum siding over wood, and Use materials that can hold up against the weather. If you currently have wood on your exterior make sure there is no chipping paint as the paint, or stain acts as a barrier to the elements. Next time you're in town I am happy to show you some good and bad homes to buy!
@@MN_Best_Real_Estate One thing I did love there. Because its so cold, it makes the pipes colder. Water out of the tap, the beer, the soda... so refreshing colder from the cold.
@@myothercarisadelorean8957 everything is colder here!! Do you actually own a DeLorean? I was born in ‘81 and an ‘81 DeLorean is a bucket list car for me
@@myothercarisadelorean8957 If the tap water is safe to drink. It depends on what area of the Twin Cities you're located in. Some water had pollutants from factories and plants that have caused some of the water to be unsafe
The consensus in Minnesota seems to be that Minneapolis has gotten really bad (crime) since the GF protests/riots. Everywhere other than the Twin Cities can be good, if you like the "Minnesota Nice" vibe, and don't mind six months of winter that can include long stretches of sub-zero temperatures. It's a place you should definitely visit during the winter, if you are considering moving here. The summers are opposite of the winters, and most people find the winters here very bleak.
I live on a farm. I love going to the twin cities now and then but when I'm there I feel so lucky that I don't have to deal with traffic. Although I have to drive 20 mi to get to a supermarket it's still easier than dealing with bumper to bumper traffic. MSP and St Cloud are the last two places I'd want to live in MN
WI is just nicer. People are nicer and you're not taxed into oblivion. In MN, I had coworkers tell me not to work overtime because after taxes it's so bad it's not even worth working. They were right. A second job or part time work would pay more. Plus they're trying to propose a 14% tax on electronics despite being in a multi year multi billion dollar surplus. This year I had 4 people try to break into my home and neighbors where I've never had anything like that in my entire life. My catalytic converter was stolen right in front of cameras at my gym even after the vin law (that did nothing) and the police didn't do anything. Minnesota is awful now.
@@Day100 I live in a small town in MN, and I also had my cat stolen. I've met a lot of great people in MN, and I don't feel unsafe in my small town, so it's not all bad. Do you live in the Cities?

@@voidaccount12345 that's how it is here in Akron, it's horrendous. We plan to go north away from the cities and honestly most people. I am so sorry you are going through that, I hope you can get settled somewhere much nicer!
Let's chat! We are looking to hire additional new agents and have amazing training available for you. You're going to love it here! Is there crime? Of course there is, we are a major metro area. There are only 13 states safer than MN in the country!
I am sorry you had that experience. Maybe we can help you move to a safer community. Our state is actually ranked really high for safety. Only 13 states safer than MN
Hmm, I've been really excited to move to MN for the past year. I'm moving from Dallas, Tx and after all my research MN has ticked off all the boxes for me. We are a young interracial family that will have kids in the future. My top choices were New Jersey and Minnesota. Now I keep seeing all these bad videos on the state about crime 😩 I know all places have crime but I hear its getting worse. I wanted to live kind of close to the twin cities but in the suburbs. 30 mins to an hour in a good city. Do you know any? Also what about quiet safe places in St. Paul?
Our taxes are higher than most states. But generally, our schools are better. Do your research on that, it depends on the neighborhood. Our taxes fund our schools and the roads, which are also in better condition than most states. I have friends who live in St. Paul and for an urban area, it’s pretty quiet. The suburbs will get you better city tax rates, and a lot of them are within a 30 minute drive into downtown. Depending on which city (St. P or MPLS). Find your job, then pick your suburb. There are local internet groups for interracial families, you might want to look into those groups to see what they recommend, everything from their favorite schools to hair salons.
I’ve been to your state many times, and I have loved it. Duluth and Saint Paul are amazing City’s. I went to Bentleyville in Duluth and somehow I didn’t freeze 😂
Both are wonderful cities! We believe there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear. As long as you’re prepared for the cold, you’ll be just fine
@@angelicaanaman3785 Dont be anxious, it's a nice place. I've lived here all my life. Winters can be a bit much as it's really hilly here, so driving in it takes some practice. You'll be just fine😊
Winters are much more tolerable here if you have a heated garage. I wouldn't live here without one. Nothing worse than heading off to work in a frozen car.
I have had garages, and am moving to a house with a garage in St. Louis Park and I never park my car in the garage. I use it for storage. Having grown up in the South and having had a car with busted AC in Texas summers... a hot car is way, way worse. There was only one instance my car took too long (30 mins) to get warm and it was during a historic freeze that brought the coldest temps in 23 years
I have a true fact about Minnesota that you apparently didn't know about. So... #11. Minnesota is more than the Twin Cities metro. Rochester, Duluth, St. Cloud, and Mankato are also great areas.
I’ve only been in Minneapolis for a week. I think I gotta be patient and give it a chance, but it seems like the entire city shuts down after 5:00 pm and it becomes a ghost town except for a few loiterers you see around. It’s just really sketchy and boring so far. Maybe it’s just downtown Minneapolis. I moved here to try to avoid the cold using the skyway
Yeah, it’s not a downtown with a “city life”. Certainly not since George Floyd. It depends on what you’re looking for. Dancing? Bars? Live music? From my perspective, we don’t have a “city life”. We are very spread out. You find your favorite places and then you drive. My favorite college dancing place was out in the burbs. Theater? We have more per capita than anywhere except NYC. But you have to go looking, and a lot of it is out in the suburbs, spread across the metro. Gambling? You drive to the casino. I think you’re getting the idea. We have it all, but it’s not next door. Generally, I’m willing to drive an hour one way if it’s a concert, up to forty minutes for a night out. If I want to drink, we get a sober driver or take an Uber home. There is a lot here, but you have to look for it, and probably put some miles on your car.
@@busybee19 It hasn’t gotten better, the city just goes dead at 5:00 pm during the regular week, and doesn’t get much better on weekends. Most things are closed and there isn’t much activity going on
Hm, Lived there for 22 years. Definitely not your average US state. There are lovely people living there and absolute Horrors. Sometimes lovely Horrors, but always polite and passive-aggressive as opposed to plain-regressive in other states. Summers are stiffling, winters and frigid and road-construction defies description. All in all, glad I don't live there (in fact that whole continent) anymore.
You mentioned St Paul being a little more lowkey, I'm looking at different neighborhoods but am not from the area. Could you recommend some areas around St. Paul that would feel similar to Brooklyn Park or New Hope?
I realize looking at it now, those two cities are wildly different sizes but we're looking to get a starter home and my fiance is worried about safety concerns so wants a similar socioeconomic situation but he's from Minneapolis and unfamiliar with St. Paul residential areas
This is a generalization. St.Paul is diverse within its own borders. Minneapolis is more cosmopolitan but has a higher crime rate. St.Paul is more family oriented. Calmer place to live. The burbs are all different. The north burbs are "How many cylinders are in your garage"? To the northwest is more Bible orientated. The west burbs are more wealthy and to the South is more what I would call normal or mainstream, hard to stereotype. To the SE is the forgotten burbs of Cottage Grove and Inver Grove Heights.
Lemon eucalyptus is great! Lemongrass oil, clove oil, peppermint oil, and cinnamon oil are all great. Mix them all in a little spray bottle and you will be set!
Here's a "Top 10" you missed! The MN state budget has gone from a $16 Billion SURPLUS to a $2 Billion DEFICIT in one biennium. An $18 Billion flip!! No wonder Walz was just named gov of the year lol.
Where did this information come from? I found this: "MINNESOTA (KTTC) - Minnesota has a $2.4 billion surplus for the 2024-25 fiscal year but is facing a deficit in fiscal year 2026-27." and from the Associated Press: "An updated forecast from Minnesota Management and Budget projects a surplus of $2.4 billion in the two-year budget period that runs through June of 2025. That is up $808 million from the estimate at the end of the legislative session in May. The bigger surplus still accounts for just a fraction of the $72 billion budget."
Another person who thinks Minnesota is only about the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Well, there is Greater Minnesota, the 82 non-metro counties and then there is the seven county metro area which would then be Lesser Minnesota?
Well this page is primarily for the 13 county metro as it is the area we service. There are many great communities outside of that, but I don't have as much info for those ones...

I grew up in MN, and I loved it. But ice fishing is BS. Every guy I knew who liked ice fishing only used it as an excuse to get out of the house and drink away from their wife. The public school thing is really true, the funding and access to magnet schools Is honestly amazing. Being able to open-enroll at a public STEM school is the reason I didn't fall through the cracks, and have been able to succeed in an engineering career that I would never have been able to have in most other places.
I still don’t understand ice fishing. Regular fishing I can get behind but freezing cold and not being able to even see water is crazy. Best schools around!
@@IrisP989 there are a lot of really great public school districts so we find it’s more important to focus on what you want from the community and then we can recommend some districts from there. When are you planning on moving to the Twin Cities?

The twin cities took a giant nosedive in quality from the prince purple rain era. Crime, traffic, dog eat dog mentallity, and lots of driving to get the things you need. The crown jewel of Minnesota is DULUTH. Nothing else comes close.
Except that it’s soooo expensive in Duluth. I love visiting, but I can only afford it in the winter, when prices are lower. I can’t even imagine how much it costs to live there.
It was probably pretty good until the George Floyd riots. The thugs were just waiting for a reason to riot and they destroyed the city. Governor Walz didn't help by letting the city burn for three days before calling in help.

The policies that turned Portland into a dump will have the same affect in Minneapolis. Already happening. All you have to do is look at the policies, ask yourself what happened to other cities which implemented such policies, and then decide if it's good or bad. But no city does that. They don't ask where else the policies have been implemented, they just do it because it has the appearance of wisdom, even if it turns out the same way every time.
I wish they would look at what’s happened in other areas when implementing new policies. Rent control in St. Paul is likely to be rolled back and is one policy that likely should not have been put in place. The idea is good, the actual bill was not.
@Crayola Scents Portland is a "dump"? Are you nuts?! LOL! 😁You're not fooling anyone by calling Portland a "dump" and purposely not being specific as to why, and just using the generic term "policies". You are spewing typical right-wing BS because you don't like Portland's liberal attitude and way of life. Their motto, "Keep It Weird", is just too much for your conservative, "tell people whom to love and what they can do with their bodies" mindset. Well..tough titties, honey! Yes, Portland has problems with homelessness and high housing prices..but NO city is perfect. Since you are so mistaken about Portland, let me tell you why it's an awesome city thousands move to every year: 1. Portland is very green and environmentally conscious with more than 279 city parks. 2. Portland has a casual & laid-back vibe and feels more relaxed than most US cities. 3. Portland has a plethora (and diversity) of job opportunities with a lot of big name businesses in town. 4. Portland is a short road trip away from so many cool places, like the Columbia Gorge (windsurfing capital of the world), Bend (the second fastest growing city in the country), the Oregon Coast, Crater Lake National Park and the Alvord desert. 5. No sales tax. Yay! 6. The Portland International Airport (PDX), which is often rated as one of the best airports in the country. 7. Summer temperatures rarely exceed 90°F and you can count on sunshine from mid-May through mid-September. 8. The food in Portland is dream-worthy and one of the reasons people are moving to Portland in droves. You can live in Portland for 10+ years and still find yourself discovering new restaurants. 9. Portland is often rated as the best beer city in America. 10. Portland is listed as one of the top 3 coffee cities in America. If that's what you call a "dump", then you have no idea what a "dump" really is..lol. 😆
@@MN_Best_Real_Estate whats wrong with the rent control? capping it at 3% is close to the average rate of inflation if not higher (under normal circumstances)
@@user-md3wm7vu1f Not the guy you're replying to, but rent control is generally accepted among economists as being a bad policy. The Wikipedia article on rent control has a good summary of the literature: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rent_control_in_the_United_States#Impact TL;DR: Rent control usually has positive short-term benefits for tenants living in rent-controlled units, but in the long term results in fewer housing units and higher rents overall.

blue duck, red duck, pink duck, GREY DUCK!
That's SUPER interesting! It really makes Grey Duck make more sense. I mean, have you ever seen a Grey Duck?
Yup, that’s what we did in Minnesota, too!
What about the living expenses?
Honestly, some of my favorite vacations were where we didn’t even leave the state. Couldn’t agree more. Love MN
20 minutes to get basically anywhere in the cities is what I say. 494 can get bad but its only bad for MN
Well when winter comes and it snows driving becomes a bit more interesting.
Any drive can become hours long. Snow sucks, but a good ice storm is whole nother level of suck!
Always good to see a Floridian in those videos, I need these perspectives as a Floridian
Traffic isn't bad but the drivers in MN suck
You "love the winter", great, you can keep it
Haha! Winters can get long and depressing, but there’s a lot to do in the MN winters if you take advantage.
Sorry you dont know how to enjoy it but I love and welcome winter ❄️☃️🌨🏒⛸️ Its the coziest time of all!
Only season I love more is fall!
Lol.
Lot's of relocation in both ways from the Twin Cities and Denver. I can connect you with an amazing community if you decide to come to MN!
Minnesota looks like an interesting place to live.
It's more than interesting. It's the best!
@@MN_Best_Real_EstateI was in Minneapolis in 2005 I found the people to be very very friendly.. and really nice parks in the city

You forgot the Nordic Bundt cakes an pans! There’s do much here! I love Minnesota

Paul?
Shoot me an email at Joe@GreyDuckProperties.com I have a lot to share about all of this
My son and his family moved from San Francisco in the summer of 22 to Minneapolis. They love it there 2 blocks off of Hennepin Ave.
Have you researched what a "state income tax" is? or what the yearly cost to register your automobiles will be? Just sayin'
Chanhassen is perfect.

Did you go to Bentleyville this past winter? (2024) We had a non-winter this year, it was crazy.
There was only one instance my car took too long (30 mins) to get warm and it was during a historic freeze that brought the coldest temps in 23 years
A heated garage is a game changer. I can't imagine living without one
I would rather deal with the heat than the cold some days, but winter doesn't always last that long. Worth it
I’m moving to much smaller Fergus Falls
I have a true fact about Minnesota that you apparently didn't know about. So...
#11. Minnesota is more than the Twin Cities metro. Rochester, Duluth, St. Cloud, and Mankato are also great areas.

cant wait to move back when im able
Heck yeah! When do you plan to come back?
In the south It gets hot
Gets hot up here too! Maybe not as hot but our humidity is pretty brutal in the summer
Hi! Are you still in Minneapolis? Did it seems to get any better? I am supposed to move there in a few months so I am curious. Thanks!

Highland Park.
Merrium Park.
West Midway area.
Summit Ave.
What natural herbs/remedies do you suggest for mosquitoes?
Lemon eucalyptus is great! Lemongrass oil, clove oil, peppermint oil, and cinnamon oil are all great. Mix them all in a little spray bottle and you will be set!
Here's a "Top 10" you missed! The MN state budget has gone from a $16 Billion SURPLUS to a $2 Billion DEFICIT in one biennium. An $18 Billion flip!! No wonder Walz was just named gov of the year lol.
A lot of previously ignored old infrastructure needed updating. That’s expensive.
After the 35W bridge fail, I say it’s a good thing.
As a Minnesotan I would move somewhere up north far away from the Twin Cities!
Another person who thinks Minnesota is only about the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Well, there is Greater Minnesota, the 82 non-metro counties and then there is the seven county metro area which would then be Lesser Minnesota?

I think it would be better to say "appearance of virtue," not wisdom.
@Crayola Scents
Portland is a "dump"? Are you nuts?! LOL! 😁You're not fooling anyone by calling Portland a "dump" and purposely not being specific as to why, and just using the generic term "policies". You are spewing typical right-wing BS because you don't like Portland's liberal attitude and way of life. Their motto, "Keep It Weird", is just too much for your conservative, "tell people whom to love and what they can do with their bodies" mindset. Well..tough titties, honey! Yes, Portland has problems with homelessness and high housing prices..but NO city is perfect. Since you are so mistaken about Portland, let me tell you why it's an awesome city thousands move to every year:

@@MN_Best_Real_Estate Minnesota wasn't even on my radar until I saw that they were starting to lean into protecting basic human rights. It's looking good over there right now.
@@fantasticgreen7755 I’m proud of the moves our state has made in protecting human rights
@@MN_Best_Real_Estate It's so cute that you call murdering humans "protecting" human rights loooooooooool.
@@timrodrick8438 It's the great thing about this country, everyone gets to have a different opinion. I believe that a woman has the right to choose. You feel different. That's ok. I'm not upset for what you feel is right. We could even work together some day and never once have to talk politics or human rights
Lol
I grew up on northern Mn an tried out the cites for 7 years
If you like fake nice and very passive aggressive
That’s a very wise thing for you to say
To a certain extent I would agree with this however moving back on the West Coast 14 years ago. If you're okay with a tight-knit circle with your tribe. you're okay being anywhere with your own authenticity and individualism
People here really think it's the best place ever. It's not. And a lot of the people born and raised are passive aggressive and aloof. The food isn't good, especially pizza. Don't even bother.
Everyone has an opinion. Some are right. Unfortunately yours is wrong. Have you eaten at any of Anne Kim’s restaurants? Kyndred Hearth, Pizzeria Lola, Young Joni? Anne Kim had her own Netflix special all about her world renowned pizza from right here in the Twin Cities. The pizza at Surly Brewing is ranked as some of the best too.
@MN Nice - Twin Cities Real Estate Resource I'm sorry, but you don't know good pizza is the issue. I've had people recommended pizza here and I'm open to it and we end up throwing it in the garbage. I guess I'm used to ny pizza. To each his own
@@danielletadros1891 Go on FB and find the group "Twin City Pie Chasers". I know I've seen New Yorkers on there talking about local pizza places that rival NY. Worth checking out anyway!
You are so correct; it's a horrible place to live for many many reasons; the people are aloof and you're being kind by calling them "passive aggressive". They're horrible and I've lived all over the USA. The weather sucks for at least 6 months, the taxes are California high without the great weather, there just is no point in living there unless you aspire to have a late term abortion up to the birth of the child (Thanks DFL, sarcasm). I voted with my feet 5 years ago. The only good thing in the state is MSP airport to get out.
@@glennleslie6127 sorry to hear you hate it so much. It’s a good thing you don’t live here anymore! Hope you’re happy in your new state!
Don't move here minn ice not nice
There's a lot of ice for sure!
Can’t be worse than Vegas lol 😂
Stay out! The taxes are outrageous. The climate is horrible. Many other better choices!!!
Minnesota looks beautiful in the winter.
It's SO beautiful in every season, Except early spring when everything is still brown
Do you live here? Moving soon? I am happy to help you sell if you want to leave!
Born here. If family were not part of the equation I would be gone. Taxes, crime & long winters make it a place most people dont want to move to unless they are looking to live off of free benefits. Northern MN in the summer IS great!
Quite frankly, there isn't a worse choice than Minnestupid.
Only thing to know...Don't move to MN. Its awful.
WRONG
why
Low income no fair being treated as a equal
Are you saying that someone who is low income should not be treated as an equal? What planet are you from?
