As a Texas native looking for a much-needed change in terms of environment, you are just the channel I needed to see! I've been heavily considering Minneapolis, but as a black person, you probably know we can't go anywhere without considering race / social issues, but I'm not letting that put me off. I'm attracted to the vibrant community, the job market, and the arts and culture there. Something I've always felt like needed to improve in Texas. And to me, that's more than worth giving this place a chance. Solute to you for providing this information! I am visiting in May for a week and I am so excited to see what the twin cities has to offer. Thank you !

As a mostly life long Minnesotan (lived in Michigan and Wisconsin as well), I can say that yes the taxes are high, but you get what you pay for here. The roads are decent and cost a lot to maintain for a state with our climate and I have yet to be in another state that has anywhere near the amount of parks, greenspace, art and museums that the Twin cities has. We also have zero tax on food and clothing. Finally, Minnesota nice is definitely a thing here. You can fully expect on strangers trying to converse with you or try to help if you are in need. Its a great place to live and a beautiful state with all the rivers and lakes.

Originally from New York just north of the city, first moved to a Chicago suburb, and then to the Minneapolis area in 1975. When it comes to weather, we do have four seasons with all the good things that comes with the different seasons. It is what you make it: many wonderful parks, lots of lakes, great trails, winter and summer sports, many cultural opportunities (music, theater, professional sports, great museums, excellent dining (especially for those willing to try something different), the best state fair, etc.). There are many choices for living accomodations: houses, condos, apartments, cabins, etc. Yes it's true taxes are higher than some other states, but so are the benefits. Good medical care, some of the best. You get what you pay for. Lots of different size communities, from the big cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul to smaller nice towns like Red Wing, Stillwater, Bloomington, and rural towns if that's your comfort zone. Yes, we do have potholes in the spring, but we do fix them which is not necessarily the case in other states. And, we have a vibrant business climate with lots of job opportunities. So life here is what you make it. Do your research and and make your own life opportunities. And, welcome to Minnesota

Winter is 5 months of punishments. We had -37 in the western Mpls suburbs four years ago, and 2 FEET of snow several years ago on 22 April. Snow is a bitch. It gets filthy, it rots your car, you slip, break a hip and get to spend the weekend in the ER. Your fingers get numb, the car won*t start. Four years ago I got stuck in the same ice hold in my alley two days in a row. There went $300 for a tow truck. Winter sucks. No good, just punishment. God hates us.

Moved from Chicago to N, St Paul 20 years ago and I loved everything about Mn. Still do. Recently visited Woodbury, Minneapolis, and St. Paul, and now planning on moving back..maybe Woodbury. The cold winters doesn't bother me as much because I'm used to the winters here in IL until maybe purchasing a home in LV NV. It's either MN or Las Vegas so I'm choosing MN for now because of their strong economy. Can't wait to be back in MN I'm ready to tackle the harsh weather, the passive aggressiveness, and the racism too. Those fools don't scare me their days of spreading fear and hate, deterring people from mover there are over. I really love the fact that most naysayers are always crying and complaining, making jokes about blk folks, while packing up & moving away from MN to other radical states due to their political stance thank God, more room for good natured people to thrive, grow and live normal lives. Great video btw.

@@movingtominnesota So I was born and raised in Florida but did my fair share of travel so I wasn't a complete stranger to cold weather. In 2019/2020 I knew I had to get the F out of Florida and began to research various places to move to and Minneapolis topped the list of what I was looking for and visited in October 2020 for on the ground research and fell in love with it. by April 2021 I had sold my house in Florida and moved to St Louis Park (short term rental) and then bought a house in Minneapolis proper (Victory neighborhood) in July 2021. Honestly, I got used to the winter by December of that year and by time the next winter rolled around I took the lessons learned and winter #2 was a piece of cake as by then I had all the right gear. I will say, the cost of living here is more expensive - BUT - I am also making more money and I feel like a lot more is actually invested back into the communities here which makes the quality of life so, so much nicer.

Welcome to Minnesota, @Lumbergo! I was raised in South Dakota, but moved to MN after college. While SD may be cheaper, like folks have said, you definitely get what you pay for here - beautiful lakes & parks, well maintained roads, a vibrant arts & culture scene & tons of great places to explore! Quality of life is SIGNIFICANTLY better here than in seemingly cheaper states. Not having to be nickeled & dimed on taxes for clothing & groceries is a pretty fabulous thing too. No one's mentioned Prince yet, so I will. It's cool being part of that great artist's legacy. Our music scene here is far more active than some might expect & I do believe his influence still lives on, despite his passing a few years ago. While we have our shortcomings, like any place does, it's also a really great place nonetheless. We've barely had a winter here this year(2023/24), which is kinda strange, but hopefully next year we'll have a bit more snow.

If you are coming to Minnesota, i totally agree to buy winter gear. At minimum, good boots made for cold temps (not fashion boots), a warm winter jacket or parka, gloves, and a hat.
So many transplants want to not wear a jacket. This is a great way to get sick or frostbitten. At -20 with a 10 mph wind you can get frost bite in 5 min. Just think if you have to wait for a bus or tow truck for 10 min or more. If you have a warm jacket and hat on you will be comfortable. If its snowy out, wear your boots outside, then change shoes at your destination. Minnesotans dont think about fashion in the winter. We think about being warm. If you don't wear warm gear when it's cold, Minnesotans will think you're weird. Dress nice under your outerwear. You can still look great inside. Just dress warm to get there.

@Ferrest. well since covid the international district had a increase in drugs that ended up spreading further into the city such as capital hill, Westlake, and pioneer avenue. This also doesn't help that MLK is run down and impoverished as well. The only good part of Seattle is the eastlake part due to being wealthy but otherwise it's really not that much better. The surrounding towns have also increased in drugs and crime really bringing down this side of the mountains. Tacoma has cleaned up in the city of downtown compared to how it was but the crime in the sub divisions of tacoma are suffering from crime and severe drugs. I'm 21 been here all my life and unfortunately looking for a way out I'm not even able to afford living on my own as everything is way too expensive even the cost of food is too high.

The other half is beautiful and alive (summer and fall) . In summer it’s full of construction. We have always wanted to leave but the jobs bro they will keep you. We are both engineering managers but I’m in medical device I can job hop every 6 months even 2 months if I wanted to. Called like crazy, this is why we recently bought a house after trying to leave to Texas for a long time. Trying to both get eng managers jobs is hard in a different state. Minnesota is beautiful the issue is you barely see it. People don’t exist in the winter they are tired and depressed even though they claim they are happy. No desire to socialize , and Minnesotans keep themselves. They dislike interracial couples. My husband has been swung at on more than one occasion.

Yes, we do have high taxes. But those high taxes translate in a superior infrastructure, great schools, super roads, amazing parks, great utilities, free zoos, etc. People are very friendly in Minnesota, and the state is clean. If you wish to escape to nature, nature is readily available. Kids and adults play outdoor year-round. There is a plethora of theater, music and both professional and college sports. Minnesota is home to some of the best colleges and universities, and the University of Minnesota, Minnesota's land grant university, is one of the largest and best research universities in the world. Winter is scary if you don't embrace it. There is skating, sledding, snowmobiling, skiing (both downhill and cross country) across the state. In the summer you can't beat Minnesota's fishing, boating, swimming, hiking and ATV trails. I've lived in the south, but I will never leave Minnesota again!

My dog personally hates those little boots, but they get used to them. Plus it’s funny to see them try them out. There is a vaseline type product I put on each individual paw pad. That protects him from the cold and salt on the ground, but we keep the walks short (10-15min) at max

Considering moving to Minneapolis from Detroit to work in healthcare. Used to Midwest winters so not sure how they compare.

Winter wont be too different then. I'm pretty sure the adjustment (if any) will be very minimal.

I'm living in Florida as a transgender person. That alone has had me wanting to move for a couple of years now and I've had my eye on Minnesota. Then Trump got reelected and now it's no question that I have to flee... so yeah that's what's got me thinking about Minnesota. It seems perfect.

@@movingtominnesota We're looking to move in 1-2 years, maybe sooner. We have tons of family in MN and we love it there. We're moving from Southern California.... like everyone else. The cost of living here is killing us. And we'll never be able to afford anything decent in our area. Looking forward to checking out your other videos!

I am thinking of moving there after having grown up in Michigan. Being in Oregon now, the state taxes don't scare me. Having grown up in Michigan, there is no way the roads (pothole fields?) could be worse than those were. Plus I like winter.

I've lived in Minnesota all my life. I always loved it here. 4 seasons, great people, lakes around every bend in the road, etc.... Do I love it now? No. Would I move if my family wasn't all here? In a heartbeat. I won't leave my kids and grandchildren so this is likely where I will stay. Taxes are through the roof. $8,000/year for property taxes on a $400,000 home is ridiculous. Affordable housing is non-existent. Schools are.... eh. It all depends on your district I suppose. This state is VERY divided. So much of the "Minnesota nice" that I knew and loved in this state is gone. The crime is horrible. So many people living outside of the cities will no longer travel there because of crime. What once was a beautiful city (Minneapolis) is now riddled with the aftereffects of the riots that have forever scarred that beautiful city. It's truly a shame. There is a reason that 20,000 people moved out of Minnesota in 2020 and 2021.

That’s exactly why my parents moved from Duluth to Fort Lauderdale when I was a kid. Trouble is, Fort Lauderdale now has the same over-population, over-building, crime, horrendous traffic, high taxes, etc. But south Florida doesn’t have the beautiful 10,000 lakes, Boundary Waters, Lake Superior, clean cool air and water, etc. Ideally, I’d love winter down here and a looong summer in northern Minnesota!

Some truths here but some incorrect conclusions. Minnesota nice has been a myth long before "aftereffects of the riots". Those did not "forever" scar Minnesota. I've been in and around here since 2013. Property taxes are eyebrow raising. But I think Minneapolis is considered the "NYC" of the area (SD, MN, IA) so I get why.
