I always thought Rick James and Donna Summer should've recorded a song together- especially during the period right after she left Casablanca when she wanted to do R&B/Soul. The album with Quincy Jones in 1982 was good, but imagine if she would've had a song with Rick right before that album. Would've helped her go in the direction she wanted.
before rick james you had ohio players, parliament, bar kays, temptations. sfter rick james you have bobby brown, teddy riley, r kelly, jodeci etc etc. uet rick james was unique with his own sound
What ever one the best Performers of all time he rocked America best times of living in USA, they rocked this country back in the day one and only! not like it is today? sad.
I remember watching this show when it originally aired, Rick was a nut! Lol, fun wave was it. You can tell Don is having fun with ol' Rick. RIP, to Don & Rick.
I did not come by here to get into racial issues with anyone. i came by to pay some respect to a good man. Don Cornilius, who entertained my family every Saturday morning when i was a kid. my mother and i had lots of fun dancing with soul train back in 71-- 72. so, to Mr. Cornelius, RIP.
i feel rap music, gangster, materalistic,n word enthused has brought our level down.the rap culture has no class.no finess.as a blackman our music was so much more civerlised back in the 70s and early eighties. the culture of rap is just the pits.the lack of any real musicians in the genre is also a sad reflection on the way the music is gone.thank god for the artists before, like the whispers, the gap band, patrich rushen, lackside, ohio players, the list goes on.
I totally agree with you. I'm neither black myself, nor an expert on funk/soul/r&b/rap/blues music, but it's clear to me that 'black music' had so much more style, class and finesse before, say, the mid-'90s. Save for a few stellar exceptions, by and large, the music seems to have 'devolved' and cheapened itself a lot in recent years. The likes of Beyonce, Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj are among the worst 'offenders' in that respect (and they set the music to idiotically salacious, dumb, debased videos too). I'm still on the fence RE: the Weeknd (AKA Abel Tesfaye). 'Can't Feel My Face' and 'Starboy' are good, danceable tunes for sure... Anyway, long gone are the glory days with truly interesting acts like Public Enemy, Salt 'N' Pepa, Prince (R.I.P.), Sade, Rick James (R.I.P.), etc. Sigh. Glad to see the great Nile Rogers (of Chic) still working today though. :~)
@zac rogers you said a mouthful there, thanks for putting it correctly, because most of these people these days don't even know what real is!!!! Beautiful music, beautiful people Fun was in the air love was in the air! And lovely attitude people haD!
nope high as a kite...along with a self indulgent personality....with a little insecurity...its is the rave with all the stars all the time...even today....lol
i dont like to include rap as something that evolved from rick james. rick james sang r&b music with funk style. his music from his time evolved into new jack swing and r&b of 90s. and beyond.. rap music is just another subdivision from the r&b misic genre which is known as hip hop as well.
Don Cornelius was a class act. Rick James was a self indulgent, Insecure, unstable clown who squandered his talent for lack of self respect and discipline. And Don from a physical standpoint would have wiped the floor clean with a junky like Rick James. Don had height, reach and weight on James and he also boxed in his youth.
Two of the Best entertainers of all time RIP Rick James & Don Cornelius
