In 2002 I was doing security at a Rick James concert. He made a point to talk to all of the staff afterwards to thank us for doing our jobs so well. He had a large entourage of family traveling with him. I know he was older; but he was such a class act & nothing like what the media portrayed.

Vocally, Fire & Desire was a pretty good song for him, but this one blew me away. He holds his own against the velvet voice of Smokey. Too bad they never sung together again.

I can't agree with this comment. I don't think there's a real dip in quality. It's just that we tend to remember the good songs of an era and forget the bad ones as time goes on. That, and it's easier to get access to bad music so we hear more of it. There's certainly been a lot of bad acts from the past too.

im just discovering music and you have no idea how pissed off i am knowing that there actually was a better "quality" to just about everything and im a youngster its like whos fault is this why did "standards" drop so low......this was an era when music videos actually had substance and production was actually thoroughly used in them......now even with million dollar budgets kanye cant even use a merci in his merci music video when budgets are used to show off cars and lavish lifestyles it makes me sick to think thats what sells

I can't agree with this comment. I don't think there's a real dip in quality. It's just that we tend to remember the good songs of an era and forget the bad ones as time goes on. That, and it's easier to get access to bad music so we hear more of it.
There's certainly been a lot of bad acts from the past too.
