- A Tale of Two Mimban Stormtroopers...I received both the Hasbro Star Wars Black Series and Bandai S.H. Figuarts versions of the Solo trooper at about the same time so I said screw it, do them both and declare a winner. Problem is, I like them both, but for different reasons.

Can we have a separate channel for Robo’s skits? That shit is hilarious!
The weathering is actually more accurate on the SHF whether or not it looks like mud. In the film (and the visual dictionary) the weathering looks more like a layer of gray dust/dried mud. The sculpt and holster on the Black Series is inaccurate whereas the SHF sculpt is based on the Rogue One trooper. The Rogue One and Solo troopers share for the most part the same updated suit.
Yeah, I realize that, but it's my own brain saying mud and should look like actual mud, not dudes weathered and placed close to mud. It would be like having snow on a sandtrooper, or grass stains on a snowtrooper.
I can see that, with it being grayer than dirt mud, but it's still pretty dark and messier when the troops are rolling in it, and especially when Han and Chewbacca meet. Plus the way it covers both the troopers in the promo and the SHF just looks too production and clean, not like actual troopers in actual mud, no matter how concrete it is.

that thing on the back of the cape is clearly meant to be a poncho type hood, kinda sad neither figure acknowledges this.
Yeah, I would have liked to seen a trooper in a hood. Now I need a third party cape...

Great review and awesome opening. I’m thinking I’m gonna have to overpay for the black series on eBay. It’s always a pain to get Walmart exclusives. I don’t know if it’s a Walmart or Hasbro thing but it’s always a struggle.
Yeah, it's a feast or famine usually. One area will get a ton, other areas get none. I lucked out several times with the Legends Thanos exclusive so I'm betting I won't see much Star Wars.
Just have to chase the Walmart trucks on their days. Find out when they start unloading, find a couple cool stock boys that might give u sum tips?? Call all the Walmart’s in ur county, and have them set it aside.
But yeah, sum jackass that makes his living scalping exclusives on eBay is going to get most of em...sad things is; most of these eBay scalpers don’t even collect SW !
I'm really glad to see SHF are making taller troopers now. It was my biggest gripe with SHF troops, that I can't blend them with rest of 1:12 figures like Black Series or Mafex because they are way too short and small.
MAFEX still come off as big but yeah, makes me want to try out more troopers from SHF now. Damn it.

I’m with you on the army building comment, but is it possible to remove the plastic cape from the SH and replace it with a Walmart cape? If so, I’d like to see how that looks as well. Great review!
Yup, both capes come off and can switch. And in fact, rickhor has a cape up on his eBay store, I may give that a try next.

I'm still not feeling the need to spend the extra on shf, slightly tempted by mafex, but I can't fault black series lately, just received the lando wave a couple of days ago, really liking that face tech stuff.
Oh yeah, Hasbro is really upping their game with the face print tech, and also tweaking articulation in the neck and elbows.

I’ve never taken apart a six inch figure, and I want to make my very own Gus. Have the figs, but not sure how get the Range Trooper’s head off without destroying the neck joints.

Haha, yank the shit out of it was what I was going to say before I got to the end. I just did another one yesterday. It feels like the neck is stretching but it'll pop off before that happens. Then with the Ego head, push it on until it's snug but not until it pops, it looks to low if it's all the way on.

Is the double jointed stormtrooper arm better in the re releases? I got one of the original ones (from the pre black and red packaging) and he's got double arms but it doesn't bend nearly as far as you showed.
The older one I used in the comparison gets up as far, and I can't seem to find the original one I had lying around. Looks to be the same though.
Bwahah I just watched troopers last night. You should do more skits you are good at them. For real as good as robot chicken. Keep it up sir. Vote me up if you agree robo should add a weekly movie skit or something like an extended version of this intro....

FINALLY got mine today. And yeah, regarding the reuse for SHF, the R1 figure is heavily reused here from what I can tell, there are certain changes in the abs and knee armor that coincide with this new Mimban version.
I need to break down and just get the Rogue One trooper, just to have. Especially if it's as nice as the Mimban.

It's good to know that its not just my trooper who has a wobbly right leg when pulled out. The left leg is also more solid when pulled out like yours. That's strange but nice comparison video!

I kinda like the sh figuarts for the sculpt and the body shape - looks like a cold, proud imperial soldier, would love to see the black series’s paintjob overlayed on the shfiguarts to compliment the already good gray tone down of the armor
One problem with the original Storm Troopers is the QC on the eye lens paint. Hit & Miss. When they don't extend the black to the entire lens (as with your Hasbro Mimban), it makes the eyes look small and cheap. When they do it correctly, it looks way better. I've had to take a fine brush with some black to fix mine.

Easy choice: I like the ShF Trooper sculpt way more. There’s a ...i dunno...rushed looked to the BS, as if they didn’t take any reference pics to sculpt it. So, yeah, happy with my ShF Bimbam.

Metalpug79 it's not available for preorder at all I believe. The black series figures are one of the only things you can't preorder at GameStop.

I have the black series and the paint job bugs me. It’s looks like bob Ross did a number on the fan brush. I haven’t seen the movie yet but looking online it seems figuarts should be more screen accurate.
I have a spare sandtrooper so I’ll mod the headpiece and do my own weathering. Thanks for the great review!
The online shots of the Mimbans standing by themselves, the Figuarts does match that dusty look, but in the movie it seems everything is way more messy and wet and nasty. I need to see it again to get a better look.

I figure my chances of finding a Veers are slim to none as well.
The black series helmet bugs me but I think the paint app, soft cape and price edge that one out over the SHF for me

Hey guys, can anyone explain to me if S.H Figuarts are a good quality figure? I see them for real cheap and not sure if they are knock offs or what.
Real SHF are usually excellent quality. If it's cheap, it's a knock-off, and those are usually not even in the same ballpark.
I found 2 of the black series version, I was pretty happy!
I thought the Black Series Mimban Trooper was going to have limited elbow articulation judging by your thumbnail, but thank Lord its not :D

Considering Walmart’s last SWBS exclusive (deluxe Kylo) we will probably see this in stores in time for Episode IX.

Random I know but. I literally just found a whole case of these black series on shelf at my local Walmart in Arizona tonight. First time seeing them. Scooped up half which I'm not proud about albeit they are just too cool to not have more than one.

Hey I know this is late and I don't know if anyone can help me with this but my figurearts version broke. This was the official version and not a Chinese knock off and came out of the package just fine. After a couple of days messing with it the hinge at the torso broke off from what looked like the ball at his waist. I'm not sure if I can repair it with epoxy or what but I am looking for answers since I do not want a $45 dollar figure to go to waste.
How come when I convert yen to dollars it shows that most of the model kits on amazon japan cost over $90?

Not sure I agree with you about the weathering Robo; the promo pics for the actual movie Mimban troopers do show it as being a more grey dust kind of dirt, so to me the figuarts is spot on.

Oh yeah, but in the actual movie the mud was way more wet and nasty. I love the look but can't help but think it needs the sewer look, haha.
What's the point in the forehead thing as far as lore goes? Also, why does every new imperial trooper variant have one?
I can only guess it's a visor tucked up in there, kind of like pilot's helmets. For what, I don't know.

Do Crotch Troupers have better aim?
Ya know, I actually thought TBS version had a straight up regular stormtrooper helmet and overall (factoring in cost) I like this one more than the SHF. I've got the SHF on its way and plan to get TBS one as well but I think I probably could've gotten away with just TBS on this one. Oh well, still nice to have more troopers. Now gimme a mudtrooper!

Target Chewie is the only one that's actually released. Don't know where all the others have been.

Although the Black Series definitely looks muddier, the Figuarts' weathering is more accurate to what appears in the movie; they have a layer of silt all over. I've been trying to stick to Force users for SHF for my wallet's sake, but this one sure is tempting, as is the tank commander from R1. It's a slippery slope...

Why is hasbro even bothering to give anything to walmart, much less exclusives. I look online, says its only sold in stores. I go to a walmart, it's not there. In fact there wasnt any black series other than a young han solo. I was really looking forward to this figure.

Ha, I'm on mandatory 10hours Monday to Friday Deslag steel grinding with 8 hours Saturday working hard to not have Sunday. Getting a paid holiday on Wednesday is rather nice. Also #ActionGus!
I definitely remember those days, except the shop I worked at would never, ever have allowed us to work a holiday or Sunday. Can't pay the employees TOO much.
