I actually cannot think of a toy I had that I was disappointed in. I had Star Wars, Go Bots, Transformers, GI Joe and MASK. The main disappointment I had was my own fault, using red magic marker to paint Cobra Symbols on my Star Wars vehicles lol

I hope you'll recover soon Michael. And if it helps you feel better I can tell you something a friend of mine told me once. His oldest brother was a huge He-Man fan as kid back in the 80's, and whenever he got a cold/flu/fever/measels/any childhood decease he insisted on keeping his He-Man figure close to his bed so the Power of Greyskull could heal him faster. Because I didn't meet him until my late teens I don't have any way to verify if that truly worked or not. But in any case, get well soon! :)

i honestly wouldnt mind more episodes on this subject.
This might be a bit blasphemous of me, but my disappointing grail was the original dragon dagger. Those things were literally impossible to find locally during the height of the ranger's popularity. My family and I spent the better part of 3 years looking for one of these daggers and never saw a single one of them. We had all but given up hope of ever seeing one. But then, it finally happened. We had gone to our old stomping grounds the next town over and stopped in at the Walmart we used to frequent.
While my mom was busy shopping, my sister and I hit the toy section. That's when I saw it. It was the only one left on the shelf and I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. It was gorgeous. Even though some of the other toys were hit with clearance stickers, this thing still cost MSRP. I think it was around 30 or 40 bucks. I knew this was probably my last chance at having one, so I went to my mom for an advance on my allowance. It took some fan-dangling but she agreed. i was the proud owner of the dragon dagger at last!
Disappointment started pretty much as soon as I got it out of the box. It looked shorter than the one in the show. I was a big kid, so I had unusually large hands for my age but even then it should have, well, fit better in my hands than it ultimately did.. the majority of the weight was in the blade, which i guess makes sense, since that is likely where most of the electronics were hidden, but even with batteries in the hilt, it felt too light in the grip. Made it imbalanced.
Second and most heartbreaking was that it was kind of cheaply made. I dropped it the thing while playing one day some 3 or 4 months past, and the middle button came right off.. broke at the bottom of the button, so it was damn near impossible to fix without taking the toy apart. I was not even 10 yet, so that wasnt gonna happen. Receipt was gone and it had to be taken back to the store i bought it from, which likely wasnt a place we'd be visiting again in the forseeable future.
I had the other ranger weapons, the axe, sword, bow, lance, saber tooth daggers. Hell, I even had the sword blaster and all of them were better than this thing quality wise. I tried to fix it by gluing it back together but i didnt get it on the button to stick where it should and it remained stuck and unusable. I wound up selling it a few years later to a kid who would go on to buy all my power rangers toys, who seemed to be absolutely thrilled with it, so, at least I could make someone else happy with it..

Great topic, and I hope you are feeling better!!
I have one regret, not a disappointment though. The GX-100 GAIKING AND DAIKU MARYU | SOUL OF CHOGOKIN set...
I mean, when I saw it for the first time, it brought up memories of my childhood and watching a show called Force Five that included the mighty Space Dragon and Gaiking, then finding out as a kid that toys existed of not only Giaiking and the Space Dragon, but Grendizer as well blew my child mind at the time.
So when I saw this set online and heard from others how great it truly was, I thought to my self, this is a grail, but it wasn't until I saw in person that I actually thought of pulling the trigger. I didn't take it lightly. I debated on it for some time and decided to get it. Now I'm in no way disappointed with this beautiful set, but rather in myself for getting it. The price tag, though I was able to pay for it in installments which didn't hurt the budget in any way, but that at the end of it I feel it is way over priced, and if I had to do it again, I would pass on it. Worse part of it all is that the Space Dragon is so large that I can't currently display it, so I have to drag the box out and assemble it in order to play with it, but one day, it will be out standing proud over my space guarding against Darius The Great and his Dark Horror Army!!!

I had an opposite feeling when I picked up G1 Megatron. I remember thinking his arms always looked stumpy in photos but since I got him, I have never regretted it. The sword with the reissue helped. Can't believe it's 20 years since I got him.
Hope you feel better soon and a hearty hello from Ireland.

On the other hand, when I was a kid I always wanted, but was never allowed Voltron. I generally never got big things. I usually only got a GI Joe figure, not many vehicles. And MASK I only ever had the smaller vehicles.
Voltron was that one thing more than anything else I just always really wanted as a kid, but could just never get it.
After 40 years, I finally recently aquired one, even with a bit of yellowing, not in the best condition youll ever see, Its still amazing for me to look at. I dont really touch it, I dont really touch many of my collection, Its more a form of art these days, like looking at a painting. Everyones different, for me I just dont really get much out of picking them and holding. Its pretty much purely the nostalgia of seeing them.
But yeah, the Voltron to me, just looks amazing, just hits the nostalgia button hard.

Before I started collecting transformers, my holly grails were Beast Wars Transmetals 1 Optimus Primal and Megatron. I bought Optimus Primal with my first-ever salary as an adult. Unfortunately, a screw joining the canopy and cannons to the back of the figure snapped, leaving me with two halves of a figure and a shocking face. Fast forward a couple of years, I finally managed to hunt a sealed Megatron, which sadly was a victim of the plastic-gold syndrome, which pulverized him after the first transformation. Fortunately enough, the next purchases of vintage figures were very solid, to the point where I keep collecting and hunting modern and vintage Beast Wars and generations Transformers. Besides, I got a replacement for the Hasbro Optimal Optimus and got the Takara Transmetal Megatron, which had no problem at all.

I used to always want a transforming Robotech/Macross Valkyrie fighter. I know they’ve been released by multiple different brands, and I may still try to get a different one. But somewhere between 5-10 years ago, I found one at a collectible thrift store in a box. Box was in rough shape but the toy looked good. I ended up buying it and was so disappointed. The joints were loose, the transformation didn’t stay in place. It would untransform itself if you moved it in the wrong direction. It may have just been because it was a 1980s toy in the 2010’s, but it didn’t change how bummed I was.

I remember the Dragon Ball GT playstation game. It was the only game I remember that actually had beam struggles as part of the game mechanic. If your characters were far enough away, doing a special move would trigger a little cut scene of the character charging up and yelling their attack. for the briefest moment during that cut scene, depending on the opponents input, your opponent would either use a ki sheild, bat the energy blast away, or would activate their own special move cut scene and at the end of it you would be locked into a beam struggle. Not the best game but the inclusion of that gimmick allows it to hold a special place in my memory.

One of my most disappointing toy purchases has to be Dark of the Moon Jolt not because the figure was badly designed in anyway it like most early TF movie toys is really well made, but the one I got was a factory defect and his arm came off all the time to the point were it couldn't go back on. Now I have the Studio Series version which is shocking good for an early Studio Series cease as good as the modern ones are I felt the start of the line was a step down for the quality of movie toys, but I still wish my Dark of the Moon one just worked right.

The first Bayverse toys. They kept making so many different versions and sizes of each figure. they tried to make a line last very long with 8 figures. I think back then the figure they should have only sold were the Bestbuy exclusive versions of the figures. I know they started that trend probably with beast machines but ever since the live action movies then they've been kinda doing the same for every line. Making all these different sizes and simpler versions of one figure in my opinion has kinda ruined the line. for a long time it was hard to find a figure i truly thought wasn't cheap looking. I understand the simpler ones are cheaper and probably more accessible for kids of poorer families. It just makes more junk in the world.

Get well bro. Any of Indiana Jones figures of the 80's sucks. Now the new líne of Hasbro are great in comparison!
