I like how each animator depicts Athena’s “No?” It ranges with having anger, confusion and worry and yours is clearly confused and worried for her patronee like “hey buddy do you need 5mins and a gateraid like-“
It’s to enhance the show’s main theme of “open arms” and mercy vs “ruthlessness”. Throughout the show Odysseus struggles with whether he should be “ruthless” or “merciful” and shows his gradual shift to becoming ruthless in his journey, and as a logical goddess of war Athena knows that leaving Polyphemus alive will end up biting him in the ass, so she suggests the ruthless idea of killing him off. Athena’s always been an advocate for ruthlessness at the start of the show, appearing to warn Odysseus from adopting Polites’ idea of greeting the world with open arms in warrior of the mind, so as a representation of the theme “ruthlessness” in the story it makes sense why she suggests to kill Polyphemus here. I believe it’s not until later when she meets Telemachus that she learns there is also some benefit in “greeting the world with open arms”
It’s funny that she chastised him for what she claimed was his mistake when it was her attempted intervention that spurred his anger and grief that resulted in his mistake. She is as much to blame as he is, but unlike her he couldn’t just leave it. He didn’t need his mentor after what happened. He needed a friend to comfort him and help him through this dark time. 👁🗨

I feel Athena’s advice should have been more about staying anonymous so that the Cyclops can’t tell on anyone like say Poseidon, god of the sea
