So many Panerai watches! As a first time buyer, which one is the best one for you? That's the reason I made this first time buyer's guide!
In this video review, I will be looking at Panerai watches from an angle of a first time buyer. The video should help you know what to look for when trying to buy your first Panerai.
Panerai is a great brand of luxury watches that has a lot of interesting timepieces - a brand that is agreeable normally to watch enthusiasts that are looking for something outside of the traditional.
The company's most popular model is the Panerai Luminor Marina, which features a 44-mm case, as well as signature feature: the distinctive Panerai crown guard.
One strong recommendation that I would like to make regarding Panerai case sizes is this...If you're a guy, stay away from models in the 40-mm and 42-mm space. These smaller models look like women's watches and won't look good on the wrists guys that care about their watch game!
Another important factor to take into consideration when purchasing a Panerai is the “PAM number.” Do your homework using the different PAM numbers because this number is going to tell you specifically what features the watch you are interested in has. This is important because there are a lot of different variations of each Panerai model.
Some of my favorite Panerai watches are the PAM 104, the PAM 005 and the PAM 441 Ceramica, a watch that is difficult to find and one that looks a bit understated - which is great to improve anyone's watch game.
And how about the best Panerai model, the Top Gun?
For me, it has to be the rose gold PAM 289 timepiece. Even though it is not the most expensive, and it's certainly much less expensive than tourbillons, it is an exquisite watch for anyone who loves nice watches.
Each of the more affordable Panerai models have one or more distinct features - but no one single watch (unless you go to the very high end ones) sports every single feature in the Panerai realm. For example, some Panerai models have sub-seconds and a clear case back, but may be manual with no date. Another model might be automatic with a date and sub-seconds, but lacking a clear case back.
While some who prefer other high end watch brands may not like this, it is actually what makes the more popular models of Panerai interesting. Collectors can, and frequently do, accumulate different models with unique features to sport them at different times and with different purposes.
Another great thing many watch fans like about the Panerai brand is the high degree of flexibility it offers when it comes to being able to use different and even exotic straps with the same watch. It is actually very easy to change straps and it is almost like having different watches in one.
If you're interested in buying your first Panerai, make sure to do your homework carefully in order to select the model that is right for you.

CRM Jewelers If you want to give advice at least try to look professional. Not trying to "nitpick", but unfortunately image counts a lot when you expect to be regarded as knowledgeable. People pay attention to these things, not saying it has any relation to direct knowledge of watches, but come on, I shouldn't have to be explaining these things.

PAM 251 was the first nice watch I purchased. I still love it to this day and it makes the perfect beach watch.
This is the type of info I've been looking for. I want a Panerai, and I like the look of Panerai. Like you said, it's a little different. I've been doing homework and find negatives. The dependability and lack of good customer service seem present. And now with the 318 scandal, I can't help but wonder if this brand is going to experience more troubled waters! Great review!

Great intro Eric! I have a PAM 438, it's my "everyday beater". With the ceramic case and band, it takes some serious punishment without showing the battle scars. When someone comments on it, I know they are in the game... Keep up the good work bro.

I think the Panerai cases where scaled up original Rolex Oyster cases from the 30's. As a woman I prefer the smaller Panerai's, but I hate the gold and diamond studded ones.
Great vid I am in Dubai right now and been looking at a Panerai at a shop down town its a black seal clear back black face limited 1/1500 I don't know what model in am going back to have another viewing we will see its boxed all the paper work its a lovely watch plane but simple......watch this space

it's a style, I dislike small watches. I have a 36mm Rolex...the smallest one I own
It is an acquired taste, like many things are in the watch world. ..once u go there, its hard to wear small..You can have a classy piece that is big and a gaudy piece that is small..the other design elements have to compliment the size.
You cannot just judge like that, some people looks good when they are wearing a big one, I have a PAM028 and it's 44mm and all of my friends said that I'm fire wearing those, different people different look, REMEMBER THAT!!!!!!!

There is watch for just telling time and nothing more...your Timex. Then there is horological watch history, art, design, superb engineering. I bought my first brand new Rolex two tone sub when I was 22...watch runs like a charm to this day. Do I need to say anything else?
You didn't mention the most important part which is the sandwich dial as opposed to sausage dials in some models. Pam111, Pam127 and Pam183 are the best ones in my opinion.

Literally same here Haha. Great models. Now deciding between those 3 and I feel kinda itchy coz all of them look great. I can give an advise as well on how the case sits on your wrist. Coz 312 and 104 are different in that sense. Hope you'll enjoy your panerai! Have a good one
Keep in mind hes being specific about Panerai watches about the 40 mm. He never said all watches, he said the Panerai's in that size. Personally, I appreciate the honest advice.

Pam 510 with sandwich dial is the best entry lvl pam.
Seconds hands with 8 days power reserve. Open case back and 44 size. Too bad the latest version are painted dials.
I know Panerai allows for leather and rubber strap swap outs as well as aftermarket. My question is regarding the changing to and from metal bracelet. Is it possible. I like the Luminor Marina Titanium with the rubber strap for everyday use but want to be able to dress it up with the bracelet when the occasion arises.
Bill, for Panerais, you can go from metal to rubber/leather, but not vice versa. Thank you for your comment.

The Subs are nice. I like them.
The 40mm one is perfectly fine if you have a smaller wrist.

A 6'' wrist still handles a 47mm. But i recommend a 7''. Anyway the 40mm looks like a 36mm. Now i tried a 47mm on my 7'' wrist and it fits perfectly. And i saw the 47mm on a 6'' girl and it still handled good but looks kinda weird. Still a 45mm is perfect for her. So yeah... people need to try and check it out. The 47mm that i tried was the PAM372.
I just bought a 241 and it is awesome 40mm. I really don't care what other people think. I love the case shape but don't want a dinner plate on my smaller wrist.
The PAM 321 GMT has the GMT, date, Power reserve, and seconds, plus open caseback.

Jun Lai The Panerais are very tricky, believe it or not. You need to consider the ones that are trending the best at the moment, but in general, the Luminors are the most popular.

I don't see how a 40-mm case looks like a girls watch at all. The Rolex submariner is a 40-mm, which I would not consider a girls watch. Maybe it is a way for some men to feel more manly if they own a large, over sized, over priced watch. I think a huge watch looks silly, and the 40-mm is just fine. I am happy with a basic 40-mm Timex Expedition Field watch with more functionality then any over priced watch. Any time I wear one of my other watch's I miss the Indiglo light.
+vosoda1 Watches have evolved over time and the oversized watch is definitely in. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I think most would agree a 40mm Panerai is not a women's size. Many of the most beautiful and prestigious mens watches are right around 35mm.
+vosoda1 I think 44mm looks better on a man unless you have lady like wrist. You can't compare a 40mm Rolex to a 40mm Pam. Totally different look. I love my classic Rolex sub but would not wear a 40mm Pam, it just doesn't look right however it looks fantastic on my wife.
+lawdawg194 the problem is the 40mm or 42mm will be the smarter buy for future resale, especially seeing that sizes are already becoming more and more scaled back. Even with a Pan... I'm looking at the PAM 523 and it's a 42mm... It will be much easier to resell then let's say a 46 or 48mm

My wrist is little under 7 inches, no way I can wear a 44mm Panerai, I love Panerais, the only way I can wear one is by selecting the smaller sizes, what's your rational behind saying they are crap? Resale? Image? Quality?

42mm....a girl's watch. Really? so a 50mm is a manly man's watch? I'm of the belief you should find a watch that fits your wrists and feels comfortable. Also, where what you want, but the shade's make you look like a shady used watch sales man.

@@Crmjewelers I found a watch a few months back, it had the dial guard on the side, it had paneria on it is a automatic. I thought for sure it was real, but I noticed at night. When I looked on it to see what the time was. It will not glow in the dark even after holding a flash light to it for minutes. And the winding stem came loose, it will not tighten back up at all. What do you suggest I do?

Because for strictly Diving they have the submersible line which has the minute bezel. The rest are more Diving "inspired" models.
I have seen the girl size Panerai just did not catch my interest. You make a good point. If I went Panerai it would be the full size. The risk I do not like are the fakes.
