U gotta think, yes the falcons need pass rush, but essentially we are a qb away from competing. And it is a hell of a lot easier getting skill position talent in free Agency than it is QB. Plus cousins is coming off an ACL injury so u never know if he will be the same. By the time penix starts I anticipate him being 28
Penix was the most productive person in all of college football in 2023...... He will play in the first year at Atlanta.... How could you not play him?
In the present, it wud seem like a wasted pick, but atl just signed a 36 yr old qb coming off a significant 1st surgery on his acl...cousins is an actual unknown as far as his health so long term the penix pick is genius...atl needs at least 2 years to be a real contender and can get dropped right in when cousins guaranteed bread is gone after 2 years...atl is good
Let's get real. I heard that the reason they drafted Penix was because they are transitioning him into a prominent inside linebacker...the Zook brothers are concerned about their team records.
Look up bill Bidwell when he was in St. Louis. The dude couldn’t make up their mind and ran out of time ⌛️. Got skipped over. There were other drafts where they would select a pick and no one had heard of the player. This was the overall first pick,
The improvement Jayden Daniels showed with an even worse defense than Caleb, compared to Caleb absolutely throwing in the towel this season, shows that Daniels is a team player and Williams is not. If the Super Bowl isn’t a clear path for Williams he’s not playing. No one wants to play for that guy.
It will keep happening. NFL is an offensive league. So from now on, you take offense in the first round. Defense can be filled with 2nd and 3rd rounders.
I heard an explanation on the Falcons pick that actually makes sense. With the team they have currently, within Cousins, they don't expect to be in the position to draft a QB that they have rates as highly. If they're picking in the 20s in a few years they'll have to trade like 3 1s to get a top QB. I can see the rationale there. Especially if you don't love anyone on the board otherwise. Would I have done it? Probably not but I can see that logic.
1st. Why would you pay cousins 180 million ? 2nd it was OK when Washington selected 2 qb's in the same draft.. I'm sure cousins was just fine with that

Atlanta trying to win now with Cousins and also plan for the future with Penix, Jr. Falcons believe that with Kirk Cousins they will be vying for the playoffs. He is also on the north side of 35. Yes, Penix is almost 25, but sitting for 2 years (maybe just 1) under Cousins Penix will not be rushed and will have time to develop. I don't think it's as much as a shock Atlanta picked a QB with #7 this year. It's a gamble, for sure, but when will they have this opportunity again?
Of course you would think it’s weird… you don’t think football exists west of the Mississippi yet here we are with the not talented Washington with 7 players off the board in the first three rounds…. Mattbehatin
Giants probably like someone in next years draft so they’ll build the team while rolling with jones. If it doesn’t work draft their guy next season and put him a better situation than they could’ve put a rookie qb in this year.
So we ain’t gonna talk about the raiders taking Michael Mayer in the first round last year, and now Brock Bowers in the first round this year? Back to back first round TE’s is even crazier than Big Penix going in the top 10. What are they gonna do? Just run 12 personnel every play? I thought that pick was insane. I understand Bowers is more of a receiver than a traditional tight end, but still….
Saying that we will never see this many offensive players selected in the top 12 ever again is most likely incorrect. NFL has favored offensive talent and penalized defensive talent for a couple years now. It only makes sense for teams to start picking offense first in these drafts now that defense is arguably meaningless to an extent. I agree and miss the old style of the draft but im afraid it’s now too late to reverse this issue.
I think that if the Falcons really love Penix that much to take him at #8, they plan to get him on the field much sooner than 2 years from now. They might regret the Kirk contract at this point and wouldn’t mind eating some of that money if they have to trade him. Expensive strategy but it could work out.
I like it. The hardest position to secure is the QB position. If you have been dealing with the Riddlers and Heinickes of the world, you would want to secure your QB room as well. Kirk is the Now, Penix is the future. And his age is no concern to me. We acting like Penix is a running back. Since when has a QB’s age mattered?
I watched Jayden Daniel’s struggle in the PAC12 and then go to the SEC and win the Heisman. Nix just had a better OL and weapons at Oregon than Auburn. Just because Nix trashed on the SEC don’t hate.
The only reason I hate the Falcon’s pick is because they probably put themselves in the worst position. No matter how much they try to spin it. All that dead cap money to Kirk if he gets hurt or if Penix takes over….which makes it harder to build around either dude in the future. I understand the long term view, but damn you could’ve saved that money if you knew you’d end up taking a QB.
Even if you wanted to draft a QB for insurance/a QB of the future deal why not take McCarthy instead he's younger (and therefore can afford to spend a few years holding a clip board) , has an injury history much less substantial than phenix and has a higher upside I don't know I don't hate the pick just felt their were better QB's available for what the falcons appear they wanted to do hell I'd argue trading way down and picking rattler at the end of the second round would have been a better decision than the move they made
