It was supposed to host Super Bowl XXV, but Arizona at that time didn't recognize Martin Luther King Day as a federal holiday, so it was moved to Tampa Stadium where Scott Norwood's wide right to end the game happened.
This is incorrect. SB XXVII in January 1993 was originally scheduled for Tempe, Az. After no resolution came regarding the MLK holiday, then the league switched venues to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
Baltimore Colts played a preseason game..Frank Kush was head coach. Owner was shopping the Colts to Phoenix. Baltimore was shopping for the Cardinals as they planned to leave St Louis..
I got the opportunity to play on this field and it's a fun place to play as long as it isn't sunny out of course but when i played it was dark luckily.
I actually love the way it looks. It almost looks post apocalyptic lol. But that's probably a major reason why it sucks to actually play at/visit. If your stadium looks like an old crater, it's probably not good
"Impersonal hot concrete bowl" just sounds like an apt descriptor for the Phoenix metro in general.
At least the Cardinals aren't the only professional sports team to share their arena with the Sun Devils

Karma for John McCain. Not making it a holiday in the early 90s, only to lose to a minority in 08

Was home to one of the best Bowl games of all time. Ohio State/Miami
I mean, is being hot really the stadiums fault itself? It's an open stadium in a place where it gets 120 degrees and you can make eggs on the sidewalk
@@ELIJAHNUBOYDreal shame that the NFL allowed bidwell to take the team with him to Arizona then.

Ok as an ASU alumni I agree ..HOWEVER!! They did a massive upgrade to the stadium a few years back so this is outdated info lol

I went there to watch washington vs oklahoma state and was super surprised to see that they hosted a superbowl.
It is cut into a mountain, outdoor desert football, it’s pretty Phoenix
Kinda like the sun bowl in El Paso, TX.

Turns out it’s easier to play in sub zero temperatures than 90+
Night games every week
I still haven't forgiven Neil O'Donnell
It isnt impersonally hot in JANUARY AND FEBRUARY.

Rod Tidwell played here and had an incredible MNF game for the ages
At one time Arizona State sold out the stadium in season tickets. Days gone by i guess.
