The Patriots rock bottom was 1990:
    - Going 1-15 after the players were caught sexually harassing a female reporter in the locker room.
    - The projected first overall pick, Rocket Ismail, choosing to play in CANADA over getting drafted by the Patriots.
    - The franchise getting sold to an owner who only wanted (and ultimately failed) to move them to St Louis.

I'd put the Lisa Olsen Zeke Mowatt incident as a #1 by itself, possibly for the entire league. I think the league has successfully erased the entire incident from pop culture history. Apart from the obvious perversion of the incident, it nearly bankrupted Remington razor by killing its flagship Lady Norelco razor (just in time for christmas, no less). It helps to remember this was at the very beginning of female reporters being involved in football and in the locker rooms and was an issue in itself. This was seriously worldwide news, even countries that had never heard of American football were reporting on American athletes waving their genitals at a female reporter. Then owner Victor Kiam made a world class stupid public reference to "Patriot missiles" in a bad joke(during the first Gulf war the patriot missile batteries were famously used to protect Israel and US air force bases) that started the whole bruhaha all over again after he had spent months apologizing to the general public to save Norelco razor. This also happened during the "Year of the Woman" after the Clarence Thomas hearings and Anita Hill testimony, and a slew of high-profile sexual harassment claims led to a record number of women getting elected to office including Nancy Pelosi and Diane Feinstein. It escapes me how little this event is mentioned, I would suspect the NFL(and NFLPA) threatens RUclips and creators with a world of legal troubles, restricted access, and demonetization whenever it sees this story online. Kudos for bringing it up, I was certain no one would have mentioned it.

Further, that wasn't even the lowest point for the Steelers, like at all. The 1991 team wasn't expected to be competitive in a division where the Oilers and Bengals fielded clearly the best QBs in the division. 7-9 was expected and occurred in a run between 1985-1991 where the Steelers only made the playoffs once and didn't win the division at all.
The lowest point for the Steelers occurred in the early-50s, where we had both Len Dawson AND Johnny freaking Unitas at the same time, and released both of them. Both won championships and Unitas was considered the GOAT at his time of retirement. The Steelers would not recover until we hired Noll in 1969.

Hundred percent agree with the Bears lowpoint being that annihilation by the Packers. That was actually the second game in a row that the Bears gave up 50 to an opponent and was probably the moment we knew Trestman was done. Just an awful feeling watching those games. If you're going to go back to 1980 for the Saints, just a few years earlier you got Tampa dropping their first 26 games. Around that same time, the Giants losing the Miracle at the Meadowlands. I know that's a bit early for a youtube audience - but that Meadowlands play is still infamous, and wow - 26 straight losses for Tampa!
For the Bears (my team) -- so many to choice from, but how about the time in January 1999 when they held a press conference to announce the hiring of a new coach, only to have to cancel it because the team hadn't actually hired the coach yet, and the guy (Dave McGinnis) was so weirded out by it, he decided he had better things to do than work for this cast of clownshoes. It was so bad the club fired the owner. Sorta. Mike McCaskey was the (widely loathed) decision maker for the McCaskey family though his mom, Virginia McCaskey was officially the top boss. She relieved her eldest son of decision making authority for this embarrasment.
Long as I'm riffing, the first season I watched the NFL was 1981. Both Patriots and Colts went 2-14 that year. The two Colt victories? They were both over the Patriots - but a combined three points. Yeah, they nearly went 0-16. (The next year they went 0-8-1 in the strike-shortened '82 campaign). The Colts surrendered over 500 points that year, well over 100 more points that the next worst squad. That's their low point. The Patriots lost twice to a team that bad, which is some kind of low point as well.
Vikings haven't had many low point -- but how about the death of Korey Stringer in 2001?

Exactly, word got out during halftime of the 3rd preseason game that Luck was retiring.
He wasn't carted off the field after an injury.
Two years earlier, the Colts kept saying Luck's injury wasn't that bad and would play. About week 6 , they then said Luck would indeed miss the whole season and the fans felt lied to.
After a great 2018, Luck wasn't playing in the 2019 preseason and the team once again kept saying Luck would play.
Unfortunately, the Monday before that 3rd preseason game, Luck informed the team he was retiring immediately and they kept it under wraps.

I came to say exactly that. Though, to be fair, the period from 1985-1991 was the nadir of the franchise post-merger.

As a Packers fan, 2022 was rock bottom. I do not remember the 2005 season that well, but 2022 was a dumpster fire.
    Reasons:
    - Rodgers signing a 50 million a year contact
    - Almost losing Jordan Love
    - Offseason controversy about Aaron Rodgers behavior
    - The team falling to (bleep)
    - Losing to the Lions at home to miss the playoffs (Rodgers throwing an INT to end his Packer career)
    - Aaron Rodgers' bizarre behavior
    - Players being injuries left, right, and center
    - David Bakhtiari turning into the next Bryan Bulaga
    - Losing 7 of 8 games (Only win against the Cowboys)
    - Joe Barry incapable of running a defense
    Need I say more?

As a Bears fan, I would say their “rock-bottom” was the Sunday night football game in 2014 when they got blown out by the Packers. Marc Trestman was a terrible head coach and did nothing to keep the locker room from becoming an absolute cancer.

Nah. The Hue Jackson Browns were supposed to be terrible. They were in full tank mode. Those tank years built the team we have today. Which makes the DeHarvey Watstein's performance after his trade and contract make right now rock bottom. Even worse than Fart Modell moving the team.

    • @y2films
      @y2films 2 месяца назад +1

@FIFODavid I'm sorry but 1-31 is way worse...
I'm a Rams fan but by five points logic drafting Lawrence Phillips and Leonard Little should be our low point for the same reason.
Not defending the signing of DeShaun Watson but signing morally questionable people has been an nfl staple forever.
As for his rams choice, everyone knew 2009 was a full rebuild but the classic way. Seeing what you have and building a core around it to build and grow.
The 2008 season was lower. Rams went 2-14, got blown out weekly and watched Kurt Warner take the Cardinals to the Super Bowl. We all were Arizona Cardinals fans. At least I was because it was more fun to watch.
Josh Rosen wasn't their lowest either. Too much recency bias

One could argue their rock bottom was after the 1995 season, since they ain't been the same franchise after the original Browns moved to Baltimore.

As much as that 2015 loss to the Steelers absolutely obliterated my soul, I think Mike Brown taking over for his father in 1991 and immediately firing Sam Wyche, then drafting David Klingler and trading Boomer Esiason a year later, has to be rock bottom-ier than that playoff loss. At least we were semi-competative in the early 2010s. We were equally as bad as the modern Browns in the 90s.

That season was so bad... Not just with the Jovan Belcher situation, but having SIX Pro Bowlers on that team, only to go 2-14. That same season, in October of 2012, the Chiefs fans in the stadium cheered when Matt Cassel got concussed. I've been a fan since the Schottenheimer era, and that season was by far the worst one we had.
