    A tip for filling transmissions: Go to your local garden store and purchase a 5 gallon insecticide sprayer (the kind that you hand-pump to build pressure). You can bend the end nozzle into a "V" shape so it hangs onto the fill hole. Put your ATF into the sprayer, pump it up, and then let it fill the transmission for you.

    • @mkm7962
      @mkm7962 2 года назад +5

      Cheers Mike, I followed your advice and purchased a 5 litre weed sprayer like you mentioned. Was a little sceptical when I got it home, but after opening the mesh pick-up feed pipe inside the bottle and fitting an old coolent return pipe right after the trigger nozzle instead of the plastic Lance, it worked a treat and took no time filling almost 7 litres of gearbox oil. Thanks, similar sort of systems on Amazon cost 80 to 100 dollars.

    • @mikek1187
      @mikek1187 2 года назад +2

      @@mkm7962 Glad it worked for you. I have several that I use with different weight oils/gear oils. It appears that your store sells a different kind of sprayer, as the ones over here have no mesh pick-up, it's simply a stiff plastic hose that runs the length of the sprayer bottle to the bottom where it picks up the fluid.

The garage that's doing the work quoted me £350 for the kit alone so there's a £90-£100 markup on the kit depending on the price they buy it for. They're fitting it for £120 incl VAT.

    I litrerally did mine about two weeks ago.
    Got all ZF kit with all the lifeguard oil. Comes with bolts and new sleeve.
    And genuine Bmw/zf adaptor and tubes.
    P.s if you have the car higher at the front while you dismantle then you can drain all fluid from the torque converter so to drain 90% of old oil and then put car level for filling.
    I used the obd scan tool to check oil temps where 40degrees.
    Yes most fill plugs are that tight my friend! Lol

    Very good, thank you. Just the little bit of extra info I needed. I have a Jaguar S-Type 2004 (same 6hp24), and without driving it since I made the first ATF change a couple of month ago, I am currently on my 3rd ATF change... Reason: After the first full flush I had to be taught that I cannot use a multi-vehicle ATF, which claims to be like Lifeguard 6, thus another full flush flush, putting Lifeguard 6 in, (and I already changed the sleeve) and then I learned that those bridge seals like to break. I do not think, mine is broken, but I don't want to risk that it breaks soon...: Thus: ATF change No.3 to swap the bridge seal and those 4 tubes. Obviously, I will reuse the just released Lifeguard 6.

    George, tried today to change the fluid on my X5, e53, 3lit diesel,facelift 2006.
    The fill plug appears to be on the bottom of the sump, a 17mm hex, the drain is right beside it, poss 8 or 10mm.
    I bottled it as i didnt want to touch that fill plug as i didnt understand how it works ??
    Found other youtuber with same fill and drain plug position so have now gone ahead. 4 litres came out, and when i put 4 in it started to overflow. So happy at that !! No taking temp of atf or ista !!!

    Have done this procedure twice on my E61 525d already, 3'rd time coming up this summer. But only did the sleeves, seal and plug connector on one occasion. Probably one of the most important service procedures next to changing engine oil that you can perform on your car, if you plan to have it last for long. Thanks for making this. I wish you had shown the valve body screw tightening sequence, or at least said where you found it or what you were referencing. The pan sequence you explained. I have an '07 750Li I bought not long ago and it's my first BMW. It's actually the first car (sedan) I've owned since my '71 VW Karmann Ghia in '95. I'm jealous of your V12. There aren't many here in the U.S. Oh well, I would probably be afraid to buy one if I found it, I'm already facing the alternator bracket gasket, this trans service, and I'm pretty sure the Guibo joint. Might as well change the support bearing while I'm doing the Guibo.
    Now that you've shown how much fluid it takes, I think when I do mine I will buy 8 feet of plastic tubing and stand beside the car, using a small funnel to pour in the tube, and let gravity do its thing. I'll blow the last little bit in, to empty the tube.

    Open the vent on the container to avoid the bubbling. Before dropping pan, loosen 2 near drain plug, tilt pan toward plug, then remove plug. Should be able to drain more fluid that way.

    • @brycedrennan7722
      @brycedrennan7722 6 месяцев назад

      Yes, tried this, but I took this idea farther, because as described, additional is only a small volume of fluid (when I created tilt by only slightly loosened the one remaining bolt at the end opposite from the plug, then loosened more the one remaining bolt at the end near the plug.) From there, with the plug out, I supported the pan with one hand, while I removed those two last bolts, and did a controlled pour, through the open plug hole, by tilting the pan over my catch tray, and managed to get a significant amount of fluid out, not all fluid, but much closer to empty. I feel that this was easier than wrangling the pan with more fluid in it.

      @jester26uk yes, it is exactly the same procedure, only using ZF8 oil. I'm nearly secure that the oil filter fan is the same. Ony difference is that the ZF8 does not have mectronic sleaves as in the zf6 gearbox so in fact it it easier to go.

      Great job George, very well conducted as well BUT I would never recommend doing it on the open space (how windy it was on that day?). You don't want any dirt to get inside the gearbox, around mechatronic. Also @BUTAJIUK is absolutely right - you have only refreshed an oil - still around 3-4 Ltrs of old oil have been mixed with your new oil :( How would you feel leaving 30% of old oil in your engine? DYNAMIC oil change with the specialist machine is the only way of replacing complete "full" oil in the automatic gearboxes. Saying that - George your skills are great and your video is very good indeed.

    How can you tell when the solenoids should be replaced? Would it generally trigger a code or is it something that should be done after a certain amount of miles? I have the XHP transmission flash, (stage 3)and has ran rather well with only periodic aggressive driving. I’m going to be doing a flush and replacing fluid/filter soon and curious if I should be purchasing new solenoids. I have noticed a bit of hesitation in shifting, as of late and not sure if performing the flush will take care of it or not. Thanks in advance if you have any advice!

    I would like to know the adaptation values you can measure before the oil change. To this I would like to see the age and mileage of the car.
    Now i have an X3/F25 30d 2011, 251,000 km, and some of the adaptation values indicate some leakage in the gearbox. I have googled quite a lot, but I can't find an answer if the mechatronic should be repaired or not, or can I drive another 50,000 km, that means are the values too high or not.
