He was a black man who was from Florida who was a lawyer and a teacher and wrote that song for the struggles of black people with Abraham Lincoln in mine and it is the black national anthem

Its a beautiful song. Should be added to other American classics.

It's a great song, but it doesn't need to be sung before the game.

I don't care if they sing the song. It is amazing. It belongs right up there with America the Beautiful, which is also not the National Anthem.

No no you should sing it too not just us. It should be an additional song. I'm okay of new traditions.. We need to work out the kinks first. Lift every voice should be a build up to the National Anthem. The Stamp of USA,

If you want to have three different songs, where does it end? Will our children have to decide which twelve songs are most deserved so that we can get to the football game?

@Bunny with a Keyboard That's not what I meant. I meant that we have ONE national anthem. However, "America, the Beautiful" is much loved, and there is room for "Lift Every Voice and Sing" as well. That doesn't mean that either of them should be sung at sporting events. They can be, but neither of them ARE the national anthem.

James weldon johnson the writer of said song, was a black man and a leader of the NAACP....I understand their argument here but ....we can't ignore the fact the blacks in America born through and because of the slave trade has no real positive history to latch onto. Claiming the black national anthem as their own gives them a sense of identity. I agree it shouldn't be labeled as a protest song but as a celebratory song.

Yes, this song is better than the national anthem.
The song is not a protest song and this song is not and insult to bkack people. It never was!
    Your other points are correct!

This has got to be one of the densest takes that I’ve ever heard…This has been the Negro National Anthem for as long as I can remember, and black folks have been singing it literally for a hundred years. Also, their are very blatant allusions to slavery and the civil war. I don’t know what the problem is here.

    • @TheLite0003

Colloquially, yes, this is the “Negro National Anthem”. Beyond that, there is no official designation for the song, other than its reverence in our community. As vile a human being as he is, Glenn Beck is spot on here.

Also, when was it decided that a nation could only have one anthem, and that that anthem never changes. If a significant portion of American people feel like Francis Scott Key’s Star Spankled Banner doesn’t represent them, then shouldn’t they lobby for their representative government to declare a different song to be the national anthem?

It's called tradition, and that's a big part of what makes a culture which in turn creates unity. The left is hell bent on division.

I probably won’t ever be anywhere where they’re singing any anthems. Too woke. 🙀
