The Zoom SSH-6 shotgun microphone is the perfect addition to the H5 or H6 audio recorder. The SSH-6 microphone capsule provides directional sound to focus in on a source in a noisy environment. As a mid-side microphone, it allows for variable stereo level in addition to the directional sound. This microphone is great for videographers looking for a versatile audio setup to use with their camera.

I don't know how I didn't see this review all this time. Awesome work with keeping everything to the point and a clean review 👍
Thank you....a simple and short review but certainly concise and to the point! Thank you for the comparative samples..they sure help I think you've convinced me that the SSH-6 will be a good investment. I'm now a subscriber.
Thank you very much 🌷
thank you
IMO, you also needed to show a test using the Zoom SSH-6 for narration / voice overs. I own this mic and have used it extensively. Here is the Truth:
1. In my Zoom H6, it produces a significant amount of self-noise as compared to the x/y.
2. If the subject is more than two-feet away, the level must be at 5 or higher. This introduces way too much noise. [You can hear this in your video when the guitarist stops playing.]
3. No matter what you do, and this can be seen with an acoustically treated room, anything above 3.5 has noise. And at that low of a level, it is almost unusable (even for a voice over) unless you get right on top of the mic. At that point the 'proximity effect' is way too boomy.
I do not recommend this mic!
Thanks for your informative comment.
I have a couple of questions if you have time:
1. How big of a problem is the self-noise when doing outdoor interviews on busy city streets?
2. How much of the self-noice are you able to eliminate in post-production, e.g. by using ReaFIR in Reaper?
3. Considering the relatively low price of the SSH-6 compared to other shotgun mics (e.g. Deity S-Mic 2), do you think is offers good value for outdoor work? It seems to me like the SSH-6 might be able to get the job done at a lower price point, but it would require more post-production work to reduce the self-noise.
Another benefit I see with the SSH-6 is that it connects directly to the Zoom H6 recorder. By mounting the recorder onto a Rycote shock mount with a pistol grip ( mymic.rycote.com/products/zoom-h6-audio-kit/ ), one would eliminate the need for dangling XLR cables and wireless receivers in the field.
Hi! Is it possible to get two different tracks from the 2 built-in mics? Thanks for your video and, I hope, reply!
I have zoom h6 what is the best using shotgun ssh6 or rode ntg3?
Definitely NTG-3
How would this compare to the new rode ntg video mic.? Please do a review comparison.
@@tomalexiou9573 there is zero noise from the ntg3 and too much from the zoom shotgun
