The smartest and best movie in the franchise. Mission Impossible is based on a successful 60's tv series which also had a great 80's remake and this movie is the most loyal to the tv series. Altough the 4 one is fun. You should also see Jack Reacher.
This film series is based on a popular American 1960s TV series. It ran for several years and is still available online and on physical media as well as some broadcast TV stations. You would probably really enjoy the TV show! It was very well made for the time.
Made so well that the closer the movies get to its blueprint, the better they are. Made so well that Martin Landau was Emmy-nominated three years in a row for MI and Barbara Bain WON three consecutive Emmys for the show. They would have done it again but both quit after three seasons.
It is beautiful watching you two interact. My wife is Chinese and we tried watching A Few Good Men together. I had to pause it 20 times to explain things. So frustrating. But I think you guys can help us bring humor back into our lives.

The original tv series is great, in my opinion. Tom Cruise's films are loose adaptations of the series. Jim Phelps was played by Peter Graves as IMF team leader in the show and was not at all a traitor. Jon Voight plays Jim very differently. I like this movie a lot as a standalone thriller though. It's well done.
I am likely one of MANY to say, 🧨 _the _*_Mission: Impossible_*_ films just get better and better¹_ as time goes on. 💣 ··•●✺●•·· ¹ ─ Depending on one's personal preference, of course. For instance, *MI:2* is directed by *John Woo,* and he's at peak *_Wooiness._*
21:32 That's actually Tom Cruise thinking those scenes as he's telling Jim Phelps what he wants to hear. So he knows the truth and planned from there to get Phelps on that train to prove it to Kittridge.
A great debut for a helluva franchise - Cruise always delivers the goods. Directed by veteran filmmaker Brian DePalma (THE UNTOUCHABLES/CARRIE/BLOW OUT). You'll enjoy this series.
I encourage you to please continue with this series. Granted, MI2 is kind of terrible; it's a low bar for the series and even Cruise's resume. But luckily, MI3 is like a soft reboot in which they retooled their entire approach from the tone, to the way Ethan Hunt is portrayed. From MI3 onward, everything is solid.
Finally, someone who agrees with me. I think M2 is dumb from start to finish. Nothing bad on Cruise. It's all John Woo's fault. But, you still need to watch it since it's a series.
Like in the Top Gun movies, Tom Cruise does all the action stunts by himself in the Mission Impossible movies as well. The aquarium explosion, the CIA vault hacking and the train fight was all Cruise himself. And it gets better and better every Mission Impossible movie. I can't wait for Mission Impossible 2.
A whole bunch of movies and TV shows about spies, all came out about the same time. Bind was first, then the British tv show, the avengers. America had the movies, Our man Flynt, and TV show Mission Impossible. Also a couple comedies that were both very good. Hogan's heroes, set in ww2, and Get Smart, about a stupidly ridiculous spy! Even the French had an amazing version with one of the greatest actors who ever lived. Peter Sellers did, The Pink Panther movies. And finally Mike Myers did the amazing spoofs of all of them, Austin Powers!
Still my fave mission impossible, movie! Why? Directed by Brian DePalma! He does long, unedited scenes, weird camera angle closeups, and very very VERY long unedited scenes with NO dialogue!!! Hard to believe this movie is 30 years old, and still great! This action, strange camera views, very long silences...this is why Brian DePalma, is still the best living director! "Jim" was a bad guy in another excellent spy movie with gene hackman and will Smith called, Enemy of the State. Which is really a continuation of a early 70s Gene hackman movie! The French guy was also in 2 excellent movies, La Femme Nikita, Ronan with Robert DeNiro, and Leon the Professional! That's a fantastic Luc Besson movie. He also did the first 2 Transporter movies, 5th element, and Taken 1 and 2!! DePalma...his camera work, it's just masterful! He learned directing from the master, Alfred Hitchcock and it clearly shows!!Hard to believe this movie is almost 30 years old!!
@@MJoy4Fun Ion Caramitru was the first guy killed on that fake set, and Marcel Iures was the second guy killed ,the guy that was sprayed on the head with that substance, so they could track him.
Jim Phelps was the team leader for years in the MI TV series in the 1960's (played by Peter Graves) so when this movie makes Jim the "bad guy" I immediately hated this movie. Don't get me wrong, I thought this movie itself was great except making Jim the mole, murderer his entire team, and for what(?) - money! For me, the MI movie series begins with MI III to the present. I still appreciate your reactions and your channel, can't wait for you two to see MI III.
The 60's TV series this was (as has been pointed out) based on was more about the clockwork team effort than Tom Cruise's X-stunts: ruclips.net/video/MA2KmJMKFrQ/видео.html [Peter Graves was the Jon Voight character] If you get to see the episodes on Paramount+, PlutoTV or disk, the opening embassy party, and the TV theme kicking in as they begin the CIA infiltration, are some of the only two scenes in the entire movie FRANCHISE that conjure up the smart, convoluted cool of the original.
Really fun series with the exception of maybe the second one. Just like the train scene in this one the second movie is on the ridiculous side. All the rest though are more heavy on the action side of things where this one is more story focused. But they're worth watching for sure.
Hey you two. Yeah, no, this is nothing like James Bond. In both franchises, the character(s) are spies, but they act totally different. In the Bond films, James Bond usually works alone, and for this reason, he can either impersonate a character in the organization he is trying to infiltrate or just try to slip in unannounced and do his thing, often unnoticed ... unless he WANTS to be. The IMF (Impossible Mission Force) always work as a team or as an individual with a backing crew, and often try to trick their opponents into doing what they need or want them to do by using unique disguises and/or setting traps for their targets. Bond, on the other hand, uses a LOT of special gadgets and things to outsmart and/or outgun his opponents but ultimately, fights them physically in the end or destroys their organization and/or headquarters. IMF would just capture them.
Ah. Following in the tradition of: Friday the 13th, Leprechaun, Hellraiser, Critters, Airplane, James Bond, Brave Little Toaster, And Fast and the Furious to name a few. 😅

Theses films get even better, & even crazier as they continue. You guys are gonna love this series.
can't wait for moreee
Don't be put off by the second one though.

One of the greatest action film franchises ever!

Tom : I am CGI ( Cruise Going Insane )
Hoping you two start watching the rest in the series. A rarity where the sequels are just as exciting.
